    This is really great advice Rob. I’ve been doing the exact same thing for the past few weeks for some upcoming gigs and it’s made a huge difference, I’m using the Headrush FRFR as my monitor to simulate being onstage. I wish I had taken this approach years ago. You’re sounding great too mate!

    Great video Rob!! I always practiced/ rehearsed exactly as I was planning to perform the gig. I also found the playing live 2 or 3 nights a week, every week was much easier musically than, later in my career playing concert type events a few times a year.

    For home use with bigger amps, I recommend a volume pedal. A good volume pedal will keep your tone the same, but at lower volumes. Now that I found out how much volume can be reduced with one, I am no longer scared of how loud a bigger tube amp will be in my house. I will use a 2x12 Cab which is all you need for only small and medium sized gigs and if you are on a mic at bigger shows than you will be able to get enough volume anyways plus if you are too loud to fit well in a live mix than a volume pedal can help you not sound too loud. As to 4x12s sounding fuller, in a band mix I don't want too much bass anyways.

      @SpartanLaserCanon Год назад

      Also, I'm going to eventually get a 50 watts amp head I want because 50 watts is enough for playing with a drummer without a mic setup and I saw/heard proof in a video I saw.

    Still stuck gigging in Wiltshire lol. However, we recently lost our other (main) guitarist, so Rebel Station are back to a three piece. However, I'm playing through a boss Katana head 100w with a Harley Benton sc vintage 1000 and I cant get a "full sound" to fill the stage. I always find the boss head a bit Lacking in fullness whatever guitar I use (even more so with a single pickup Ibanez), but are there any tricks when playing small venues with a PA and an engineer that can make the guitar in a three piece feel a bit bigger live?
    Should that all be up to the engineer and front of house EQ or are there any pedals or cab twinning etc that can help for the sound the punters hear?
    Cheers Chappers!
    Tommi

    Thank you so much for this video, Rob! I started a new band in April and we‘ve been rehearsing regularly ever since. We play Punk/Post-Rock and I‘m the only guitar player and vocalist although I have never taken over vocal duties (we‘re not going for real singing more for punk shouting). I was worried about playing and singing at the same time and your tips are so valuable. I just got a microphone and next rehearsals we‘re going to start practicing with vocals. If you plan on doing more videos about singing and playing, I‘m all for it! Cheers!

    Another tip which you didn't do is balance the back line so that the vocal stands out - people want to hear the singer most of all - (whether we as guitarists like it or not) - you drowned out the vocal. The stage you want to reach is not boredom but auto pilot. So you're not thinking about the structure of the song but your performance - how to move etc.

      There’s a reason Motley Crue live in the 2010s wasn’t comparable to what they were in the 1980s. When it doesn’t make you enough to be rich even after the cost of party life you need to behave to preserve your musical career and income

    Thanks Rob, our first for the summer is in 8 days. My problem is if I try to practice while the boys (4 and 7) are up they get really excited and want to help me play by grabbing the strings and twisting pedal knobs. If I wait until they're in bed, I can't make any noise. So I end up at rehearsal wasting the other guys' time tweaking pedals and practicing lines because I didn't show up prepared.

    A more realistic simulation of a live gig shouldn't have the placement of the PA behind the performer. Therefore, a floor monitor has to be a part of a more realistic simulation of a live gig. In addition to setting any associated instrument Amps with the amps direct to PA and amps 🎤 to PA. The monitor should have the performer's preferred mix sent in from the PA.
    These conditions are imperative to simulate a live gig. As there are no simulations of a live gig other than a copy of a live gig setup.
