I've seen a lot of guitar videos on the internet. But this is one of the few that really has some great, useful advice that everybody can apply immediately.
The breathing phrases extends beyond just guitar playing. My music composition professor in college taught us that good melodies are ones you can sing and have "breathing" spaces in them. That goes back to beginning of music to the present day, good popular music is singable
Great simple overlooked advice....it’s truly hard to phrase a great solo with all the nuance, I’ve been trying to break the comfort zone of licks, and instead build lines and melodies.
It is really a Session , that I will never forget! Awesome! Rob, thanks a lot for the „three V“, especially for thinking about the lyric themes in my solos!!
Dude, this was excellent!! I consider myself an intermediate player (3-4 yrs in), and this gave me the excitement of learning, and wanting to apply it, that I felt as a beginner.
thats such an awesome and relaxed way of thinking about it! I'm gonna stop panicking about things now, try to relax and make it more vocal and incorporate all this into my practice - really appreciate it :)
Awe inspiring lesson Sir 🤘🏽🎸 Create another full guitar course and I will be in for sure. Your teaching style is so refeshing, packed with knowledge. Frantically searching and cataloging all your lesson videos 😂 Many Thanks!
So what you’re saying is, I must venture to Japan to learn the guitar! Got it! Thanks Chappers, catch you in 2 years when I return! I’ll give Marty your regards!
Very good Rob, and very different to the usual guitar playing tuition videos on RUclips. Sam Coulson and Chris Buck have mastered a wonderful vibrato. Keep up the great work, hope to see you in Andertons again one day.
I tend to use a classical (cello style) vibrato. As a vocalist, I start playing the lead vocals on guitar, and then do some modifications for the guitar solo.
Great tips there. Thank you. I can't play the superfast scales or arps, so I often sing solos from tunes in my head whilst listening back to my own backing tracks, so I kinda knew the vocal phrasing thing. And some of my fave guitar solos are hummable. Great advice.
Great video, really useful tips. When you talk about vocabulary within metal I always point towards Alexi Laiho's playing. Often he would throw blues and jazz licks into neo-classical sounding solos. Everytime I Die is a great example of that.
Good lord Chappers that playing! I know now.... why my guitar gently weeps....... Echo Hard! "Doc" P.S. seeing you playing the very model I ordered was fantastic. 😎
Rob let's get serious... I have 19 guitars but haven't found the right chapman yet.. if you made an ml3 with that finish.. I think the guitar community would go nuts for it
thanks for the vid ol' chap...lol...one time i played with a band where we all had time to breathe it was great i have been trying to recreate that ever since don't think it' will ever happen though ...
Around 4:20 a surreal MS advert kicked in with the Albatross by Fm, kinda synchronous with Mr Green playing some of the most sublime vibrato in guitar history...
Hello Rob, as well as a 1976 American Tele I have one of your ML1 Standards in Tyrian Pink (which is actually purple!). Anyway, at the moment I have to severely limit my practice because I have early signs of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Have you ever suffered from CTS and if so, how did you manage the condition?
You cook beans in the morning?!?!? 🤣🤣 Just kidding bro, great video. Love the breathing thing. That's great man. And very true. Also, when I'm playing, especially improvising, I have the weird stories going through my head. Something that I thought was weird anyway, but I realize that is very useful and normal haha. Thank you bro. Now I understand why I do it
Love that finish. Like lava flow. Some in the world right now might not be so appreciative. Or those evacuated from Tristan da Cunha in 1961. But I like it. Should have named it "pyroclastic flow finish".
I remember me and my mates around the age of 15 after a few years of playing guitar would compete until we got the hang of vibrato. Was it nonsensical? Absobloodylutely. Did it work? Absobloodylutely. What song helped me conquer it? Joe Satriani’s ‘House Full of Bullets’. The same song that made me want to pick up a guitar at age 12. Oddly, it doesn’t even have that much vibrato in it 🤣

Vibrato I feel like I've gotten a hang of, but seeing leads as vocal peices is something to try and put into my head. Very interesting.
I LOVE that guitar paint job. Wow! Well done. And thank you for the vibrato tips.
7:55 - 9:35 .. This is best explanation of the "Guthrie" technique for bending/vibrato I've seen in a long time.
Great instructional. Gotta love this channel, you never know what's in-store when a new video arrives. But you know it'll be gold
Your explanation of vibrato is great, I never really put much thought in it, or thought about "synchronizing" with the beat
The most powerful tool in singing technology since yodelling, dude. Oh my god, inward singing.
..... and I can sing like that , all, Fuckin, night..
Great simple overlooked advice....it’s truly hard to phrase a great solo with all the nuance, I’ve been trying to break the comfort zone of licks, and instead build lines and melodies.
Thank you! :)
It is really a Session , that I will never forget! Awesome! Rob, thanks a lot for the „three V“, especially for thinking about the lyric themes in my solos!!
Some really great advice here. I couldn't agree more with these points as a guitar teacher!

It's all good but that vibrato explanation blew my mind. Forever changed. Thank you.
Really digging these lessons Chappers also loving that sandblasted finish are those guitars available yet?
It sounds even better than when I’m breathing out!!
I must say: a super vintage combo on the back and a super modern axe in front of the artist is pure balance!!
Thx a lot ! helped a lot !
So what you’re saying is, I must venture to Japan to learn the guitar! Got it! Thanks Chappers, catch you in 2 years when I return! I’ll give Marty your regards!
The colour on that guitar is insane 🤘🏼😈🤘🏼
Such a great teacher. I wish I could've taken personal lessons from you when I was first learning. Cheers bro!
Always been amazed just how much classical Guitar technique can be heard in the best rock bands and soloists.
Jesus what a great vibrato explanation. Thanks Rob.
Thanks for the tip about bending I used to bend like 8:32. 😆
Sweet guitar, Rob! Cheers! 🍻

I saw Chords of Orion was playing one of your Chapman Baritone guitars. That is so awesome!!! It sounded great!!!!
Chappers, great point on the vibrato timing.
Great Lesson
Expertly taught Master \m/
That is a cool looking guitar !!!
Very(with a huge V) useful explanations. Thank you for pointing that out so clearly.
I tend to use a classical (cello style) vibrato.
As a vocalist, I start playing the lead vocals on guitar, and then do some modifications for the guitar solo.
Ay man lookin good!
Thank you very much Amazing Rob chapman 🙏🍀
Hey great way of looking at it like singing ur vibrato with the music.. thats a great way of thinking.
Great tips there. Thank you. I can't play the superfast scales or arps, so I often sing solos from tunes in my head whilst listening back to my own backing tracks, so I kinda knew the vocal phrasing thing. And some of my fave guitar solos are hummable. Great advice.
god i love the chappers zen energy
Yes Mate, I been working on it
I add an 4th. 'v' for 'v'ery good, for your Video you made and shared here :-) Thanks Bro
Neal Schon has been one of my all-time favorites for tone and melodic phrasing in his solos.
Thank you for you this. I've just introduced my flatmate to The Hu.
Great video, really useful tips.

Oh man that Chapman guitar is looking and sounding super killer
Never known I was a Clapton type. But I tend to go up and down the fret board as opposed to what you did. More subtle?
thanks for the vid ol' chap...lol...one time i played with a band where we all had time to breathe it was great i have been trying to recreate that ever since don't think it' will ever happen though ...

You are a gem!

Is the Ml1 Baritone discontinued in graphite?
So much intelligent stuff is this vid!!! :-)
Hey Rob, love the video. For vocal solo, my favourite ever is since I've been loving you by led zep. Unbelievable lead line. Peace n love x
Hello Rob I am curious where I could try out these chapman guitars?
Great video ❤️
Great video
When will the new Chapman guitars be available in guitar center or musicians friend?
Top notch lesson! Also huge nostalgia from "feeding the pony" xDD
Great video Rob, really helpful. As for the breathing, who can forget Inward Singing by The D?

I’ve had the op on both hands and am still playing in a band.
Again, some very insightful info. Now if only I could make my hands do what my brain says.
Inward singing Tenacious D? Singing the medley and playing it also great for ear training!

Tenacious D the greatest band in the world !
Nice guitar
I want a guitar hack that makes my GIO look and sound like your guitar. 0.o
My, that's a tasty looking guitar
Hi. 3 Vees. That was incredibly interesting, many thanks for making this video. Regards.
The three Vs that would dramatically improve my playing:
Chapman ML-V
Gibson Flying-V
Cup of Cof-V
Great analysis, especially the vocal phrasing. So few get that, putting only the technique forward with not much to say, really.
The part that sticks in your head when you cook your beans in the morning.
Nice axe!
That guitar is beautiful.
It's so easy when you know how...thanks Monkey Lord
That guitar!!!!!
You mean…THE most powerful tool in singing technology since yodeling?
…it makes NONSTOP ROCKING possible!
7:14 I think you meant "Captain," sir Rob
Persoally I use the Page style vibrato
Chapman Superstrats have a totally different feeling.
Anybody else thinknof School Of Rock... Jack Black continues to breath in and out and keeps singing.
I remember me and my mates around the age of 15 after a few years of playing guitar would compete until we got the hang of vibrato. Was it nonsensical? Absobloodylutely. Did it work? you forgot the 4th v , Vagana
So I have been bending incorrectly forever 😅
What's the guitar?
It’s an ML1 Pro Modern
Beautifull guitar! And sounds great as well.
that is a nice guitar
I have sent a few emails to long and mcquade to sell you're guitars. Cheers cat all the best
The only band I've known to sing while breathing in is Tenacious D!
