I thought Alan Bangs handled the interview with a certain amount of sensitivity and caution,if you thought his approach to Scott was bad you should read his recent interview with the Quietus online, its atrocious

Brilliant answers from Scott, but the interviewer is kind of asking Scott total bullshit questions.

Scott was over an hour late for the interview which was broadcast live. That knocked the interviewer off his perch and Scott sounds a bit rusty and/or slightly hungover. Whatever, it’s still one of the best interviews Scott ever gave. With the benefit of hindsight, we can see that Scott would not be compromising anymore when it came to his art. The fact that he sold out in the ‘70’s - he held that against himself for years - made him who he became, which was who he always was, only older and wiser.

After the commercial failure of both S4 and “Till the band comes in” - the record company and management called Scott into a meeting and basically told him that they were no longer interested in his writing and that he would be singing other peoples songs and the record company had final say. Scott said in an interview years later that he should have walked away then and then come back in his own terms. Scott didn’t do that, he needed the money as he was broke and had a child on the way. “Whoring” is what Scott called it. Ever done a job you despise and know that it’s not good for you, but the pay is half decent?
Scott sold out himself and it took him years to recover as a writer.
Scott had already learned his lesson by the time “Tilt” came out in ’95.

I don’t think I know more about Scott than any other Scott fanatic.
Scott was always up front about what was important to him - his writing and having a life.

As far as I’m aware Scott died in London, I don’t know what cancer he had or where he is buried - that info was never released. The obituaries in some papers spoke about his partner Beverly (I think is her name) and his daughter and granddaughter. I don’t think Scott remarried. A lot of photos have shown up of Scott in the internet since he passed - some with him together with his baby daughter and one photo appeared which claimed to be Beverly.
Scott would have been unhappy about that as he valued his privacy.
