Scott 4 and 3 are incredable. In 50 years time people will be arguing over ”The Drift” and ”Bish Bosch” like they do now over ”3” and ”4”. Visionary artist - I love his music so much - and he was a really cool guy who did’nt buy into the bullshit of celebrity. Scott lead the way. The Paul McCartney’s and Mick Jagger’s of this world will be forgetten - Scott won’t be.
This man is my favorite male vocalist of all time!!! His voice is beautiful and his songwriting was pure magic!!! Think of the depth of his brilliance...to write so many songs like this one!!! Avant garde never sounded so good!!! What a genius!!!!
My bucket list is forever incomplete with his passing. Loved him from the first day I ever heard him sing in 1966. Thought I'd get to see him one more time. RIP Scott.
Exists. He is still here, still the finest voice ever, still recording, still making life worth living. I found him in 1964 and have never let go. Can’t let go of perfection.
Christine I absolutely, totally agree ... loved him then and still love him and his perfect voice now. How can anyone not .... he is perfect at his musical talent and tastes
Followed him since I was a teenager and when I say followed I did just that to their hotel in Manchester back in the day. What a voice and when he recorded Boz Scaggs and more importantly Jacques Brel I was more than smitten again. We have lost amazing man, composer and vocalist RIP one of my musical heroes
Absolutely love this. Scott Walker is, pure genius. As is, Max von Sydow. The world's darker without them in it, but their talent will shine like the stars. ⭐
My god, just listen to the production of the backing music. So big, so consuming, so audibly profound. It sounds like surround sound. And all this in 1969. Listen to how he plays with the stereo spectrum here. Nothing like Scott Walker. I miss him already. :(
you are absolutely true. the details so good made it on the sound is incredible, the whole album is a guide to something transcendental. he guide us and take us with his voice to this trip, is amazing
Some day in the not too distant future (hopefully) someone, somewhere will invent an audio device refined enough for the listener lucky enough to own one to audibly capture every granular detail of this majestic sound. Christmas 2020 and I’m still even more blown away by this masterpiece.
Erik Perera the more I discover of Scott Engel the more I’m confused by this label that he’s been given of weird! He seems to me that because of his shyness people misunderstood him.
Hi, I'm kind of new to Scott Walker, I've know his name for at least 5 years, never really got into him till recently, something clicked after listening to this song. I bought scott 4 CD last week
Cowboy Scott. A sub genre of the wonderful genius human being Scott Walker. A pleasure to have shared the Earth with this man and his music. Miss you Scott.xxx
i finally listened to mr. walker earlier this year after having him on my radar for a while, and WOW never have i fallen in love with a musician so quickly!!! this is easily one of my top 5 songs of all time
i have loved scott's music all my life, this one being a favourite: oh how i pity those of you who have only recently discovered him, all those wasted years!
The only problem with this song is it's not loud enough! Heard it on vinyl once with a solid sound system. Did it so much justice, made me tear up. Love it!
Going out on a limb here.. but aside from this being one of the greatest opening tunes on any album ever - on one of the greatest albums ever released by humankind - this is also.. kind of a mutant Northern Soul tune... its just dawned on me as i danced around the kitchen to it!!!
This is The Seventh Seal reimagined as a Spaghetti Western. I feel the spirit of Morricone in the bells, the Mariarchi guitar and trumpet and the choir. I love it.
Spot on mate. A masterpiece like all of scot walkers work. I wish there were more songwriters of this merit today but sadly no. Apart from Nick Cave and few others from the sixties.
Such a fantastic song. Great vocal display as always from Scott and fantastic lyrics to fit with the film. This and The Old Man's Back Again make Scott 4 my favourite album of his
something is weird...this has instantly become my FAVORITE music, BY FAR, from this era, and I've been a musician and music enthusiast my whole life: HOW could I have possibly missed ANY mention of this guy and his music until RANDOMLY coming across it today...this is the best music I have eve heard from this time. It's incredible, even for today. WOW! Was someone in the music industry super jealous of this guy and suppressed him?! I am so confounded that with as INCREDIBLE as this guy was, I've never heard a single mention of him EVER!
Without a doubt my favourite Scott song. None is equalled, his voice resonates like an avenging angel. Read ‘em and weep. Perfection, love you Scott, my dear poet friend. Watch Bergman’s “The Virgin Spring”, 1960, and “Wild Strawberries” 1957, same year as “”The Seventh Seal”, very powerful cinematography.
This theme is really epic. It's difficult to say which are my fav Scott's songs but i feel something very special about this and "The old man's back again". Thanx for share such a very nice taste.
no one on this earth well at least to me has a voice like scott walker from our great days back in the 60's till now, oh god he can make you listen to his voice no matter where you are, outstanding
BBC2 used to show a foreign film on World Cinema on BBC 2 on Thursday nights back in the late 60's. This is where I first saw the Seventh Seal. The imagery, the concept, Max von Sydow's performance. Truly a lifetime memory. Fifty years later , stumble across this track by the brilliant Scott Walker. Wow. If you read this check out I Still See You by Scott on youtube. Another barely known classic.
Hi guidofski...oh yet another of Scott's dramatic triumphs. I see colours as he sings as I did when sensing auras within my public audiences when demonstrating clairvoyance... surely his own synesthesia must have served him well in his composing. Oh how he understood so much of the human condition...his soul now reviewing a lifetime of creative expliration and pain. Glorious.
Beautiful, thank you for this montage to accompany one of Scott’s most alluring, confounding and deeply sad songs (mirroring Bergman’s cinematic prose.) But as ever there is hope, god knows where from, but Scott dredges it up from somewhere in this sorry and poignant tale. The rain will wash away the tears from their faces And as the thunder cracked, they were gone
Stunning voice, production and lyric. Incredible. guidofski, Thank You for posting. [Verse 5] The minstrel filled with visions sang to his love To look against the stormy sky The knight his squire and friends, their hands held as one Solemnly danced toward the dawn His hourglass in his hand, his scythe by his side The master Death, he leads them on The rain will wash away the tears from their faces And as the thunder cracked, they were gone
If you follow this narrative, just as Scott tells it, and get to the point 'as the thunder cracked, they were gone' it is so moving. It really is one of the most convincing moments about life on this plane.
Anybody seen a knight pass this way I saw him playing chess with Death yesterday His crusade was a search for God and they say It's been a long way to carry on Anybody hear of plague in this town The town I've left behind was burned to the ground A young girl on a stake her face framed in flames cried I'm not a witch God knows my name The knight he watched with fear He needed to know He ran where he might feel God's breath And in the misty church He knelt to confess The face within the booth was Mr. Death My life's a vain pursuit of meaningless smiles Why can't God touch me with a sign Perhaps there's no one there answered the booth And Death hid within his cloak and smiled This morning I played chess with Death said the knight We played that he might grant me time My bishop and my knight will shatter his flanks And still I might feel God's heart in mine And through confession's grille Death's laughter was heard The knight cried No you've cheated me! But still I'll find a way We'll meet once again and once again Continue to play They met within the woods the knight his squire and friends And Death said now the game shall end The final move was made The knight hung his head And said you've won I've nothing left to play The minstrel filled with visions sang to his love To look against the stormy sky The knight his squire and friends Their hands held as one Solemnly danced toward the dawn His hourglass in his hand his scythe by his side The master Death he leads them on The rain will wash away the tears from their faces And as the thunder cracked they were gone
Reads like a happy ending to me - "The minstrel filled with visions sang to his love To look against the stormy sky The knight his squire and friends, their hands held as one Solemnly danced toward the dawn"
R.I.P Scott Walker. God knows your name. You never travelled meaningless smiles , rest until you will. Make your music for eternity, until time itself tilts your way.
There's a reason why many people consider _Scott 4_ to be a masterpiece. It's because it _is._
You're absolutely right it's my favourite album ever.
Scott 3 is just as good
Scott 4 and 3 are incredable. In 50 years time people will be arguing over ”The Drift” and ”Bish Bosch” like they do now over ”3” and ”4”. Visionary artist - I love his music so much - and he was a really cool guy who did’nt buy into the bullshit of celebrity. Scott lead the way. Incredible song. The way it build is so powerful. Wonderful production.
The story clearly helps too. -Ingmar Bergman

Thought I'd get to see him one more time. RIP Scott.
He's making new music in the space between worlds.
Me too.
When did he pass?
The Avande Garde singer is gone. there will never be a voice like Scott Walker. His music will live on forever. RIP Scott
So right.
He was who David Bowie took his style from
My favourite song of all time. What a production
Agreed-production, arrangement, male choir-electrifying
Greatest singer, greatest songwriter, greatest producer, greatest arranger... Just outrageous talent.
Scott 4 is my favourite Scott Walker album.
it's a moment of perfection, one of the most beautiful popular songs no one has ever heard of.
Ich schon. Ich kenne das Lied schon sehr lange.
I do. I've known the song for a very long time.
ridiculously good. he's channelling some kind of musical perfection.
He tells the story with perfection,The fabulous and talented Scott Engle

Just giving thanks to who ever took the trouble to upload this song, along with the stills from the Bergman film. Outstanding!
Thank YOU for watching and for the kind words.

Christmas 2020 and I’m still even more blown away by this masterpiece.
Scott Walker is just sheer perfection.
R.I.P. Scott... thank you for the weirdness. Now come back like The Old Man...
Erik Perera the more I discover of Scott Engel the more I’m confused by this label that he’s been given of weird! He seems to me that because of his shyness people misunderstood him.
Frances Moore I meant musically weird... he definitely got more leftfield as he got older from sunny pop to doom metal...
love this so much
He is the greatest singer of all time
Well one of them.
Amazing voice , it takes you deeply and gives you a peaceful feeling .
Can t stop listening this guy .
Hi, I'm kind of new to Scott Walker, I've know his name for at least 5 years, never really got into him till recently, something clicked after listening to this song. I bought scott 4 CD last week
Welcome to a whole new world of exploration.
Nobody in my whole life ever told me about this? THE WORLD IS FIRED
The World is a fool.
Amen to that, I can report the truth of this

This comment.

What strange genius brought Scott Walker to this place? Now he is no more...but is always. Thank you!
The only problem with this song is it's not loud enough! Heard it on vinyl once with a solid sound system. Did it so much justice, made me tear up. Love it!
Yeah, on vinyl on a good system it is all the more atmospheric, what with that mellotron and all.
What a voice he had!
Going out on a limb here.. but aside from this being one of the greatest opening tunes on any album ever - on one of the greatest albums ever released by humankind - this is also.. kind of a mutant Northern Soul tune... its just dawned on me as i danced around the kitchen to it!!!
Been listening to `Hurting each Other` and thought the same ... slowed down Northern :)
@@barrythornton9947 Absolutely!! What anoter great tune - if you pitched this up a wee bit could you drop it at a club lol? tune!

[Verse 5]
The minstrel filled with visions sang to his love
To look against the stormy sky
The knight his squire and friends, their hands held as one

Anybody seen a knight pass this way
I saw him playing chess with Death yesterday
His crusade was a search for God and they say
It's been a long way to carry on
Anybody hear of plague in this town
The town I've left behind was burned to the ground
A young girl on a stake her face framed in flames cried
I'm not a witch God knows my name
The knight he watched with fear
He needed to know
He ran where he might feel God's breath
And in the misty church
He knelt to confess
The face within the booth was Mr. Death
My life's a vain pursuit of meaningless smiles
Why can't God touch me with a sign
Perhaps there's no one there answered the booth
And Death hid within his cloak and smiled
This morning I played chess with Death said the knight
We played that he might grant me time
My bishop and my knight will shatter his flanks
And still I might feel God's heart in mine
And through confession's grille Death's laughter was heard
The knight cried No you've cheated me!
But still I'll find a way
We'll meet once again and once again
Continue to play
They met within the woods the knight his squire and friends
And Death said now the game shall end
The final move was made
The knight hung his head
And said you've won I've nothing left to play
The minstrel filled with visions sang to his love
To look against the stormy sky
The knight his squire and friends
Their hands held as one
Solemnly danced toward the dawn
His hourglass in his hand his scythe by his side
The master Death he leads them on
The rain will wash away the tears from their faces
And as the thunder cracked they were gone
Beautiful!!!
Thank you for the beautiful lyrics ⭐🥁🎼
Thank you! 👍
