That was 100% back to your personal roots - not that you're a Dark Mechanicum tech priest (although....), really top notch video. Interesting, well executed and very informative. Thanks Guy.
I can't thank you enough for this idea. After years of being part of Warhammer community as a lore nerd, I finally have enough money to dip my toes in to the miniature side of the hobby. My only problem is that GamesWorkshop is really expensive, and eBay does not always have what I need. Not only that, but I really love dark mechanicum and have deemed them as my favourite faction, and was going to customize admech army as a dark mechanicum army. And as I was scrolling for admech minies in ebay, I saw a lot of "box of random bits" offers and was thinking that those might be useful for something. And now seeing this video it just now gives me an idea that I could create the models myself by combining those random bits, everyday stuff from my house and clay or something similar (already do sculpting as a hobby) to create my own models. Thank you for this amazing idea and keep up the great content. (English is not my primary language so bear with me here)
Printing big things has been a revelation...so much so, my gaming group has decided to revisit Inquisitor, the old GW large scale skermish RPG. My eye-sight is failing as I get older and I hear a lot of complaints about scale creep in miniatures lately but doubling the scale of stuff has worked nicely. As a test project, I created 250 pt armies for Warhammer 40k 3rd ed, which whilst the game was definitely not intended to be played at tha scale (points or miniatures) it was a very fun hobby and gaming project for a bunch of grognards.

I would be so happy if the Grim Skull models (e.g. the amazing grimdark servitors and much more) on Wargames Exclusive would also be available as digital files, not only physical minis. Tracking through a warzone, shipping and especially customs are a huge factor in why I would prefer to have them printed by a company/friend in my country :/ I asked them about this and I was told they don't plan to offer digital files, sadly. Either way, their designs are the best I've ever seen for many models.
I supported Pete the Wargamer's "Dead Animal Bits" sprue kickstarter a while back, so I'm going to have quite a few spares. While the sprue is mostly organic parts, like horns, severed hands/heads, bones, and shark teeth, the sprue DOES have oversized kiwi skulls. And I've been thinking that would work very well for strange kitbashed cyber-thralls, if they're poking out from under shrouds. So this video is VERY relevant to my interests. Unrelated, but this technique also works for creating your own Nighthaunt minis for Age of Sigmar. Just remove all the random wires, and employ regular skull bits and arms from historical minis. Anyone who builds such kits has a plethora of spare weapon arms.
They're really cool! check out the HH book "Mechanicum" if you want to get a glimpse at the birth of them, or if you're not a reader I know Arbitor Ian and Mira is soon realising a review of that book on his channel
Great video. Really like the scratch build. The blue was a great touch. Those large knight proxy would be great to see. Looking forward to the next video. Keep up the good work.
Hi Guy, thank you for giving me such a great idea because of this video. I just kitbashed a thousand sons infernal master a couple hours after the video released, thanks again man ,and keep making great videos and please make a traitor guard video soon.
dark mechanicum has such potential the idea of chaos infused flesh and metal in the most unholy of combinations is at least on paper The scariest thing in 40k
I genuinely hope the negavolt cultists come back as a battleline unit if/when they release DarkMech. They're just so cool looking, and the voltagheist field ability was pretty cool
This video is awesome, going straight to my favorites. I've seen similar techniques used to kitbash AoS Nighthaunt. If you think about it, the basic template is the same for any shrouded floating dudes, it's just the dangly bits and weapons that change...
Looks good, the different visor makes a huge difference. The weapon changes also an improvement. Followed your previous video to build six terminators 👍
the dark mechanicum are allegedly gonna get some proper tabletop representation in the near future, according to rumours. i think vashtorr's appearance may have helped there. not really a "hidden" faction though, they're mentioned plenty and have a massive part in the lore since the heresy (schism of mars etc), they just don't have an army yet. fingers crossed
Great work! Hey keep any circuit boards and save them as well, I use them for walls in my terrain builds, they make awesome control rooms or power grid walls and doors. I had the idea about a year ago
I've been a big fan of DorkFactory since I first found them on MMF a couple years ago. Nice to see some collaboration there. Also, I've never seen Solwyte get a spotlight before! Her designs are so damn cool! She also has other model ranges so if you think her style is cool check her out on MMF as well.
What a coincidence, I also have some leftover Triach Praetorian parts and also intended to replace the missing legs, arm and neck with cables to go for a lamia/kraken inspired Necron. :D
Thank you for this, wanting to do a dark mechanicum combat patrol for a while and unsure what to do for the Skitarii substitutes - gonna use this as a basis,
This creature reminds me a LOT of the Dr Zachary Smith (Gary Oldman) in the 1998 Lost in Space movie, after he becomes some sort of space spider-human mutant.
Not sure if anyone mentioned Station Forge. They have a lot of 40k inspired minis that are great for bits as well as proxy models. They have a whole Mechanicum inspired line and a few Necron style robots that I'm sure would work great kitbashed or used just as.
Alternatively the nighthaunt models with arm swaps would look awesome! You can get some insanely cheap as well since they were in a starter set not too long ago.
I *love* how creepy and ghoulish it looks, but still with all the sci-fi bits. I think 40k is at its best when it braces the old school science-fantasy aesthetics.
