IS THAT 10 % h2o2 as molar concentration or is it 10% of the standard 3%peroxide sold at the pharmacy in which case you use 10 ml with 90ml water as with the bleach solution?
Hi Ben, With these Pleione seeds I keep them in good light and at a temperature of min 14C at night rising to around 26C during the day. Germination takes approx 5 weeks - the batch in this video are just starting to show a green sheen of growth on 10 November i.e. 5 weeks after sowing. Some seeds though need the darkness first - do a check for your species
hi les great video plenty of info about the seed pod . I have I question for you once you put the seeds in the flasks what would be the ideal place to let them grow , if you could help me shed light on my query I would be most grateful kind regards Ben
great video. when you put the seeds in the viles, where do you place the viles when the germination takes place? do you leave them in the sun, fridge or a shaded area and what temps are best for germination. thanks again
hi les ben again thanks for the advice , the seed pod has been growing on my phaleanopsis now for 4 months so I think it time to go for it , I have all my tools and ipa ready , do the temps you say for the pleione suit the phal growth to many thanks again
Do you need all those precautions due to mycorrhizal fungi? To be honest even in laboratory they don't desinfect their gloves since they use sterile tools. It is always useful to have laminar flow cabinet, if you need extra sterile conditions, but at home working in uncluttered space without too much dust in the air should do the job. Also I would rather use a syringue, preboiled water solution and wee jars from a pharmacy as those are cheap and sterile.
pickblock007 It's not an easy answer. Each type has different lengths of time ripening. So a Phal can be 6 months, a Cymbidium 9 months a Paph 6 months etc. To do it best you need to catch the seed pod as it starts to show signs of yellowing, usually starting in the deep ridges on the pod. Once the seed pod splits it's contaminated and all the seed will need sterilising.
Realy useful video Les. Here in Atenas the temperature ranges between 28 to 29 degrees. Is this alright for germination? Is U.V radiation usefull? Thank you for the video.

G'day Les, great vids & thanks for sharing. When is the best time to remove the green pod from the plant? Can it be too early??? Cheers

Temperature should be fine and you don't need any special UV. Just put them somewhere well lit but not in direct sunlight or they will cook!

I'm surprised orchids are not extinct if this is what we must go through to get their seeds to germinate.
