Wow, Jess! Such a beautiful makeover! I have used gel stain and it is definitely more forgiving and easy to work with. That deeper rich color is perfect for this piece. 😊👍🏻

I love how it turned out! I thought I liked the first time but you’re right…it needed a little something! I don’t do a lot of staining but I do like gel stain!

Thanks so much for watching! Yes, that’s exactly how I felt. Like something just wasn’t quite right. Gel stain was a saving grace!

I think it was a great decision to do the gel stain! Even though it looks like you wiped off more than actually stayed on, I think that it saved the piece! It gave a better balance to the look.

I 100% agree! It was the saving grace. Gel stain is cool like that - you can always wipe less off for a deeper color & it’s so buildable! Thanks for watching. 🤍

I saw this on Instagram and am obsessed! Do you know if gel stain will work over wood filler?

Thanks so much! In my experience, the wood filler will still show through subtly. But you can use mohawk fil-stiks & varathane correction markers to mask it
