A couple of points: First of all, it seems to me that you've used the lye-based Easy-Off in the yellow can, rather than the solvent-based Easy-Off in the blue can. Yes, lye will darken woods which are tannin-rich such as cherry, walnut and mahogany. If this happens though, you can often remove the dark stain by applying a wash of oxalic acid after the wood is dry. I agree with you though. Use the Easy-Off on your oven and use paint and varnish remover on wood.
I just used it on mahogany a few days ago. It didn't cause it to Ebonize like this at all. I did follow it up with some mineral spirits, but I doubt that was the reason why it didn't.
JUST FOUND YOU!! Can’t believe you’re literally minutes away!!! Will be ordering. I hope you’ll have stock soon. Congrats on the development of this product. THANKS for the comparison video!!
The GreenEZ® Strip & Clean FINISHING CLEANER is NOT a stripping compound. It is applied AFTER using the GreenEZ® Strip & Clean FURNITURE STRIPPER for an easy and fast clean-up of residual materials, exposing the original natural wood finish. The Strip & Clean FURNITURE STRIPPER is a powerful naturally preferred solution for furniture stripping tasks, due to its low odor, no toxic vapors and slow drying semi-gelled composition. Produced from a synergistic blend of soy oil and naturally occurring ingredients, it is a proven performer over thousands of furniture pieces during the past few years, while having the unique ability to condition and leave the wood unharmed. Your video comparing the GreenEZ® Strip & Clean FINISHING CLEANER versus other stripping compounds demonstrates the power of this cleaner as it performed rather well as the only non-stripping product in your line-up.
I’m thinking the EZ Off is the way to go with a couple of pieces I have that I want to darken after I strip them. Two birds with one stone. But I will be purchasing your product for my dining room table that’s 108 years old. My husband’s grandmother bought it right after they got married and it is very dear to him.
Mad Man Restorations channel had a great video of your product so I found your site. Great video and would definitely use your product Sadly there’s no QCS available in Alberta 🇨🇦😢
I agree with Patrick Soler. I would love to see how your product compares with the Green EZ Strip & Clean Stripper. I can see why you would think both products are strippers though, bcus it says so in the product name. Lol! It confuses alot of people.
Lye is not harmful to soil, it's extremely alkaline, made by filtering water through hardwood ash. It will kill plants and can stop plants from growing by over alkalizing the soil. But all you need to do is add vinegar to the soil and you're good to plant.
Might work well on clear finishes, but it fails miserably on old oil/based paint. I tried it out on some interior trim which has one layer of latex over two layers of old oil-based paint. After two applications, each time waiting an bour to try scraping, I got nowhere. The latex came off fine, but it barely touched the oil-based paint. So now it's on to plan B: 40 grit sandpaper.
Sorry for the late reply to your comment @markabrice! You are right! Our current formula isn't designed to attack difficult paint. Many users have had success with removing paint, but results do vary and we say on our website that our QCS System is designed more for antique and vintage finishes, BUT does work on paint and more modern finishes in some case. I'm sorry your results were disappointing.
We actually posted another video of a violin! Take a look at our videos and check it out. Not sure if that will answer your question or not. Feel free to contact us if you have any other specific questions we can help with! 🌞
Thank you for your video. Yours is the 3rd one I've seen. Citristrip and powder coated tumblers are the new thing. I've never heard of any paint stripper that is safe. I have a cute wooden cabinet I picked up cheap at thrift store I'd love to strip and restrain or maybe paint if the damage on top won't sand out. I do want to try a few tumblers, but I've seen other videos that Citristrip leaves the wood splotchy. I love how the Blue Bear and QCS are the winners. Thank you for your time and effort in making this video for us. I appreciate your time sooooooo very much. Happy to hear that QCS is safer to use even bare handed although I'll wear gloves to protect my painted nails 💅, but it makes me happy that its not combustible like the others (that scares the mess outta me). I will be ordering some QCS soon. I appreciate your opinions with each one.
I was surprised to see the EZ OFF. I have never used it and never wanted to. Not really interested in ever trying it for all sorts of reasons. So I was super glad to hear you say don’t use it. LOL And wow. I can’t believe it turned it black. I’ve used Citrus strip. And it is messy and nasty. But I always thought it worked. Seeing the color difference between it and the Blue Bear and QCS…. I question it. From this video I really would like to try Blue Bear and QCS. Thanks for the comparison. I also like the ability to spray the QCS on instead of painting it on.
Thank you! I use citristrip all the time, but I need to strip indoor window trim with many layers of paint. House is from 1930. Is there something neater? I have seen those thick removers that don't drip. Are they any good?

Good job. I wonder for stripping very thing venner (speaker cabinet). is sanding better? Also, I see people using water/household bleach being used on thin veneer. You ever used that? Thank you
So sorry for the late reply to your comment @davidwell686! Sanding veneer is much riskier than stripping and our QCS System is very gentle for veneer. Also, stripping with QCS preserves much of the original color (that's in the wood). Some items are finished with a toner. That's where the color is built on top of the wood within the finish. This comes off during the stripping process.
They chemistry involved with stripping a finish coat from something can't be safe to have reacting on or in you ever.. What you want to happen is the breakdown of what was meant to be permanent durable bonds basically dissolving what was meant to resist everything. The safer the chemical used to strip something the less effective it will be as you don't want that reaction taking place on your skin... It's the user who makes anything safe or not and disposal of waste may be an issue if people are too lazy to deal with it properly. Don't smear or get goo on you that turns paint and finish coats into sludge.. it's not going to ever be good skin care if it can do that.
Hi! Because QCS Finish Remover and QCS Surface Cleanser are both liquids, they are much easier to clean out of carvings and other details compared to gel and paste products. We recommend using a stiff nylon bristle brush OR brass bristle wire brush to scrubb all the details. For very fine details you may also need to use picks. Dental picks work great! After you have scrubbed and released all of the finish after the stripping process and removed the majority of residue, follow that up with QCS Surface Cleanser to release and wash away any remaining residue. You COULD also use a hose or pressure washer (be very gentle) to wash everything thoroughly. Lastly, if you have any compressed air (either a compressor or one of those air cans for computer keyboards), you can blow out all of the details. This will also help to dry th wood. Repeat steps as necessary! Good luck and hopefully this was helpful! 🌞
when using a chemical stripper, i find i get better results by doing a very quick and thin layer to break open the surface (unless its blown and peeling in areas) then a heavier coat on the 2nd run. more laborious i know. but if you want the best result..
Compared to these other crappy strippers our crappy stripper is the least crappy. John's furniture and Fixing furniture did a review of your product on an old finish and it took hours to work. It's fine if you have a lot of time to let your furniture sit but If you're doing more than 1 piece a week you need a chemical stripper rather than any of these strippers.

I’m working on my first ever strip and stain the top and paint the body. They are bed side tables. No idea of the type of wood. Stain is dark mahogany. I have been using citrus product and having the issues. Can i now put your product on top to get the wood clean. I don’t see much in the way of grain. Maybe that is a clue to you for what type of wood there are. Thank you for this very informative video.
Hi there! You can definitely use our QCS products to finish stripping this project. In order to remove the citristrip, it may just require some additional QCS Finish Remover to remove the build-up. It's hard to say FOR CERTAIN what you are up against. You are welcome to email us some reference pictures to customerservice@stripwell.com, but it sounds like you may be stripping maple that was dyed to look like a darker wood such as mahogany. This was a common practice with older pieces. Stripping agents don't really remove pigments that are in the wood, but they will remove the protective finish. To remove stain or dye from wood, excessive sanding is usually required, but you should strip the protective finish off before you start sanding. I hope this helps and thank you for watching! Follow us on Instagram, too. @stripwell, facebook, and Tik Tok. 😊 (shameless plug)
I would love to use the QCS, but it is impossible to find. Only sold on their website + shipping charges and a week delivery. No bueno. They need better distribution.
You're absolutely right! We are working on it, but TYPICALLY (unless we are held up on our end in some unique way) shipments get to customers in 3 days. We say longer on our website just to cover delays that sometime occur.
I have a Sauna that's in my living room, and the mahogany cabinet is WAY LIGHTER than my hardwood floors. The interior of the Sauna is obviously completely unstained mahogany, but the mahogany exterior is stained a light color, along with a sealant of some sort. I'd like to remove the sealant, and get back to raw mahogany, and re-stain a much darker color. I assume QCS would be good, for this purpose of removing a sealant? All three panels are vertical (back is against a wall), so I was thinking it might be best to do a small section of each of the three panels starting at the top, then working my way down??? Also, it's sitting on an area rug that's similar to a heavy weave burlap. Could I use Frog Tape to protect the rug, and also the electronic panel on the front, or will the QCS penetrate Frog Tape, since it has no water? Thanks in advance!
You would need to run a test for sure. QCS Finish Remover should work, but it can take extra time and product when trying to remove more modern coatings.
They won't give you an SDS on it because they don't want you to know its nothing more than denatured alcohol which you can buy at Tractor Supply for $10/gallon rather than $40 a quart from stripwell with it renamed to QCS. I guess QCS stands for Quick Cash System, which is what they're doing.
It really depends. It does remove some paints beautifully, but it is designed for vintage finishes. Some of our other videos show it removing paint, so take a look at those, too.
Hi Kevin! Our Finish Remover was originally developed to work on furniture pre-1970's. Some of our customers have used QCS Finish Remover to remove the clear coat on newer furniture. Results vary when stripping these newer finishes. Some come off beautifully while others do not budge or require a lot of product and patience.
You don’t have to put so much citrus strip but plastic wrap over it, is what makes it more effective. Easy off the same wrap in plastic on a sunny day.
Hi! I found this video after using citrustrip on a solid oak butcher block table and it left splotchy dark stains all over it! Do you have any suggestions for removing the stains? Thank you!
You left the oven cleaner on it for wayyy way to long. If you spray it and let it sit for maybe 1 minute at most and itll take off all the finish without discoloring the wood.. and done in a minute. Only bad side is it will eat your hands and aluminum and stainless because its an acid…. So yea.. is good to use baking soda after wiping down after to neutralize the acids and prevent it from eating away the wood..
I purchased the 4 pack 32 ounce bottles. After watching another RUclips video where she used it. It did a very nice job. The four pack cost $140.00 + tax, and free shipping. I have not used it yet.
If you want to take the surface down to bare wood, use lacquer thinner. Otherwise, use naphtha or mineral spirits. After that, seal the wood with dewaxed shellac to prevent any residual wax from reacting with the new finish. Of course, you could also just apply more wax.
I had painters paint left over exterior behr paint that had mildewcide added from home depot in my new extention that I had just built. . I thought I was saving money. My dog, my son and I got so sick, I thought we were going to die. When I went to seal up the vents, I felt like my head was in a microwave. There was a cloud of toxicity still there after 30 days. Throwing up ensued. This toxic stuff had been airing out for 30 days. It was still THAT BAD. This is being put into our environment everyday. My question is, will the QCS remove this from a attic stairway that is overhead or should we use the blue bear gel? We had to demo the whole 2 rooms that we just had built. It is seriously dangerous stuff. Every bit of this stuff needs to be removed. When I told behr, they just offered more toxic kills paint to paint over it. That will never remove the toxins. People , go with Sherwin William's. They are reputable. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER BEHR PRODUCT AGAIN. THAT MILDEWCIDE SHOULD BE BANNED.
You are using the Cleaner from GreenEz not the gel stripper. This product will strip a light coat of finish but it’s designed primarily to be used after the stripper. Deceptive in my opinion.
Hi @southenrraedesign. We weren't trying to be deceptive. At the time we made this video, we saw MANY content creators/furniture flippers on social media using the GreenEZ Cleaner as a stripper. They were avoiding the gross gel that make projects even harder sometimes. So, this video was a comparison of commonly used products that we saw people actually using.
I’m never a fan of relying on comparison videos when the person doing the video has their own product in the lineup. It really would be unwise for anyone to consider the host product over the others. Not saying it’s not a good product but it definitely would be considered an UNRELIABLE and illegitimate product review. Who knows what goes on before the video and during the edits of the video. And that’s a fair statement
You're wise for thinking this way. As always, we tried to be as honest and straightforward as possible. No funny business. What you see is what we saw, but these days there is so much misinformation, so your feedback is 100% warranted. Thanks for watching!
Well, Coopers is a very aggressive chemical that requires many safety measures. It is MUCH more toxic and dangerous than QCS. So Coopers would likely win in the speed category, but QCS would absolutely win in health and safety category. 😊
Our QCS works well for this because it's a liquid, but generally strippers are designed to removed the surface coating and any stain in the wood needs to be sanded out or washed extensively with a liquid solvent of some kind.
@@stripwell I sanded one side of the table but it took a very long time to finally remove all stain, do oyu think the QCS will make the color come out quicker
Hi there! We only make QCS Vintage Finish Remover right now. It can work well on some paints, too, but it really depends on three things... 1. The type/age of paint. 2. The thickness of the paint. 3. The application of the paint. (Was is on raw wood or over the top of an old finish?) QCS was not designed to strip HEAVILY painted items, but many users have had success stripping a variety of paints with QCS.
Firstly you always scrape strippers. Using paper towels is silly. Secondly you stop strippers with oxalic acid or metholated spirits. With the easy off I would have thought a water rinse would have given a different result.
It's really painful to watch you make up your own rules under a guise of an unbias experiment. Each product has it's own individual process which are stated in the instructions that determines there success or failure, like the gels first are removed with a scraper, then rinsed. To treat different products the same for matter of comparison ? ...just doesn't work. Besides the actual stripping, another important after-affect for DIY's is fumes. Besides the CitriStrip and the oven cleaner, which both being pretty strong, what about the other three, then again, looking at your final results, lets just focus on two, The Bluebear and your product QCS. I like how they both worked and the final result of the woods condition, but what are their fume output comparison ? Also, i like the characteristic of QCS where you explained about letting it sit and if need be, add another thin layer. With that said, can this be brushed on ? I don't like many products that only spray, so if this can be brushed on...all the better.
QCS comes with a cheap useless sprayer and is nothing more than denatured alcohol that they are selling for about $40/quart and another $8 for shipping. Tractor Supply has a gallon of denatured alcohol for about $10. Stripwell is selling you denatured alcohol for $160/ gallon when you can buy it locally for $10/gallon. The only thing stripwell is doing is stripping your of cash. They call it QCS for Quock, Clean, Safe. It's not quick, its not clean and its not safe: WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals including Methanol, Carbon Monoxide and Methyl Isobutyl Ketone, which are known to the State of California to cause birth defects and other reproductive harm, and Methyl isobutyl ketone, which is known to the State of California to cause cancer. This product and its by-products contain soot which is known to the State of California to cause cancer.
You should, in good faith, remove this video. You are assessing the effectiveness of your stripper, the "QCS Finish Remover," against the "GreenEZ Strip & Clean Finishing Cleaner," a post-stripping product comparable to the "Stripwell QCS Surface Cleanser." You should instead test your stripper against the "GreenEZ Furniture Stripper." You are costing GreenEZ customers--e.g., me. I bought your product based on this video. I've found it spotty and messy, though, so am just now trying the actual GreenEZ stripper. TBD. But I'm surprised you've not received a cease & desist, especially as I see someone has already pointed out this inaccuracy in the comments below.
You're last sentence hits the nail on the head! Thank you!

Where do you buy QCS?
I just used it on mahogany a few days ago. It didn't cause it to Ebonize like this at all. I did follow it up with some mineral spirits, but I doubt that was the reason why it didn't.

Also, it's sitting on an area rug that's similar to a heavy weave burlap. Could I use Frog Tape to protect the rug, and also the electronic panel on the front, or will the QCS penetrate Frog Tape, since it has no water?
Thanks in advance!
You scrape the gel off. Not an apples to apples comparison that way
everything is fine but it doesnt work and remove the paint i think about osmo we can use this product in home
Can you buy in the UK
Does the QCS remove the black left by the easy off?
No, not really. That black color is more of a chemical "burn" or staining. Sanding might get below it.
Will the QCS product work on gel stain/poly coated fiberglass exterior doors?
You would need to run a test for sure. QCS Finish Remover should work, but it can take extra time and product when trying to remove more modern coatings.
They won't give you an SDS on it because they don't want you to know its nothing more than denatured alcohol which you can buy at Tractor Supply for $10/gallon rather than $40 a quart from stripwell with it renamed to QCS. I guess QCS stands for Quick Cash System, which is what they're doing.
I'm sorry - not true. The internet is such a fun place. 😊
Thanks for video!
You're very welcome!!
Does QCS remove paint the same way?
It really depends. It does remove some paints beautifully, but it is designed for vintage finishes. Some of our other videos show it removing paint, so take a look at those, too.
Thank you
Does qcs remove stain on modern finishes? The website seems only antique furniture. Will qcs work to remove stain from a oak table made in the 1980s?
In order to reduce ‘runoff’ on verticals, couldn’t you saturate a cloth with the formula and then saturate the vertical with the cloth?
Yes! Just apply a light coat to make the surface you are stripping tacky so that the cloth sticks.
@@stripwell thanks!!
Where do you buy qcs
www.STRIPWELL.com 😊
At the 7:25 mark, I see a face where the easy-off was put on.
Why are you not wearing gloves?
Hi! I found this video after using citrustrip on a solid oak butcher block table and it left splotchy dark stains all over it! Do you have any suggestions for removing the stains? Thank you!
Try a solvent and steel wool pad...mineral spirits...
So… you used QCS as an after wash. Is it ready for the next step now?
Yes it is! We do recommend letting the project dry for 24 hours before proceeding. Also, we now have a new QCS Surface Cleanser on the market as well.
I would be interested in some of your QCS. How much is it and where do I buy it? thanks
Hi Mike! You can purchase QCS on our website. www.StripWell.com.
I purchased the 4 pack 32 ounce bottles. After watching another RUclips video where she used it. It did a very nice job. The four pack cost $140.00 + tax, and free shipping. I have not used it yet.
I purchased it from the company. It arrived in 2 days after I ordered it.
How to order?
Hi Donna! Please visit our website stripwell.com to place your order. Thanks so much!
What does "schtrip" mean?
"To remove"
@@stripwell Oh, strip, ok.
I have a cabinet that only has Breewax. What is best for removing the Breewax?
Sand it
Where do I order qcs from.
If you want to take the surface down to bare wood, use lacquer thinner. Otherwise, use naphtha or mineral spirits. After that, seal the wood with dewaxed shellac to prevent any residual wax from reacting with the new finish. Of course, you could also just apply more wax.
What on earth is Breewax?! I swear people are either getting dumber or bots have taken over RUclips.
@@36parisLook it up. Briwax has been around for years.
great camera work. and wear some ppe ffs.
Where can I buy this
Hi Penny! You can order it on our website. www.StripWell.com
Yea you said no funny business off camera but you clearly put the easy off section in the oven for 3-5 hours
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Eagle eye!
"Exterior" paint you said.... EXTERIOR. Dont blame Behrs for your own disregard. 😒
None of the products in the video were any good, which is why he didn't compare them to a real paint stripper.
Would like to see a shootout between QCS and Coopers strip club. Their stuff looks awesome in the videos. But the price....yow !!
Well, Coopers is a very aggressive chemical that requires many safety measures. It is MUCH more toxic and dangerous than QCS. So Coopers would likely win in the speed category, but QCS would absolutely win in health and safety category. 😊
What stripper do recommend for removing dark oil based wood stain
Our QCS works well for this because it's a liquid, but generally strippers are designed to removed the surface coating and any stain in the wood needs to be sanded out or washed extensively with a liquid solvent of some kind.
@@stripwell I sanded one side of the table but it took a very long time to finally remove all stain, do oyu think the QCS will make the color come out quicker
It should definitely help, but it will still require a good amount of sanding, too.
Where do I get this it's not on Amazon... Mo
We only ship direct right now. You can order from our website. www.StripWell.com. Thanks Christine!
Does your company also make a safe stripper for removing paint?
Hi there! We only make QCS Vintage Finish Remover right now. It can work well on some paints, too, but it really depends on three things...
1. The type/age of paint.
2. The thickness of the paint.
3. The application of the paint. (Was is on raw wood or over the top of an old finish?)
QCS was not designed to strip HEAVILY painted items, but many users have had success stripping a variety of paints with QCS.

It's not quick, its not clean and its not safe:
WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals including Methanol, Carbon Monoxide and Methyl Isobutyl Ketone, which are known to the State of California to cause birth defects and other reproductive harm, and Methyl isobutyl ketone, which is known to the State of California to cause cancer. This product and its by-products contain soot which is known to the State of California to cause cancer.
I'm sorry - but none of that is true and our loyal customers know it.
