  • In this video, Gary LeClerc (the owner of Stripwell) takes a little time to demonstrate how to get the best results using QCS Vintage Finish Remover by stripping the top of a vintage George Nelson cabinet. This cabinet was constructed using walnut veneer over a core material and was finished with a nitrocellulose lacquer.
    Filming content can be challenging for various reasons, but on this day the rain came in extremely fast and heavy. We had to laugh. Isn't that always the way? Well, we pressed on and included some of the chaos in this video for your enjoyment.
    So, we hope you enjoy this video and be sure to get your QCS Vintage Finish Remover by visiting our website - www.StripWell.com.

    Hi Gary, i was board and wanted to test out your product in the confines of a small apartment. So, my first piece is an old MC mahogany secretary desk that was stained oxblood, the finish, be it the stain or the varnish hides the beautiful wood grain. i tested it out on the writing slope. Taped off the carcase, brushed it on in thin layers, about 3, then scraped it off after 20 minutes. Used dish washing scrubby sheets from the dollar store to clean the surface and all i can say is WOW ! Beautiful ! i was ready to wash it with a mild soapy mix, but saw how using the solution worked great for cleaning without raising the grain. Used about 2 sheets of the scrubby wool...it's firm and still gentle and grabs the remaining scum like a champ ! Final rinse was with a paper towel, which is a good indicator if any of the left over scum is still left behind, { the towel will catch and leave fuzzys in remaining patches.} The wood looks incredible like it just came back from a spa !
    The fumes were very minimal with fans and exhaust going. Once dry, no smell what so ever ! Now i have to research on the best way to remove stain. I'll probably be ordering more a little later. Which brings up another question....Does this QCS solution hold up to winter tempertures....as in shipping ?

    I used 00 steel wool wet, and now in need to use a rare earth magnet to try to get it out of the grain. I will use synthetic steel wool next time. Hope I can save the piece. The wipes are interesting. May have to buy some.

    It seems you can use way less than a goopy type of stripper. Have you every compared volume necessary compared to Citrus Strip or Blue Bear? Intriguing product. I've watched your comparison videos. It's pricier, but maybe still more economical.

    Great Video and Product. How do you remove the QCS residuals from the surface so you can start putting on the new finish?

    • @stripwell
      @stripwell  Год назад +1

      We recommend going over the project again with some fresh QCS as the final cleaning. (Soon we will have the new QCS Surface Cleanser to use!) Then just a quick wipe down with a cloth dampened with water. Allow to dry for at least 24 hours. A light sanding is recommended, too.

      Yes! QCS was really developed for these vintage finishes. Because it is the best deal we offer right now, I would recommend just going with the QCS four pack. The shelf life for QCS is fantastic, so even if you don't use it all on the project, it will last a long time as it awaits your next project. 😊

    My experience has not been good. After watching all of Gary's RUclips videos, went to work on my vintage China hutch. Four sessions of spraying, waiting, scraping then steel wool scrubbing. QCS did NOT take the finish off. I've spent way more elbow grease than I wanted. Think I wasted my money.

    Are you sure it's OK to use this stuff without any gloves?

    • @stripwell
      @stripwell  Год назад

      We have found that QCS does not irritate the skin on those of us who use QCS regularly. However, if anyone has skin sensitivities or has concerns getting QCS on their hands we recommend wearing gloves!

    How can you use a stripping product without gloves??

    • @stripwell
      @stripwell  Год назад

      We can strip without gloves because QCS is different than anything else available. We DO recommend users wear gloves when using it because everyone's skin is different and we all have different sensitivities, but we like to show how safe QCS is really is.

    The spray bottle that comes with the QCS is not great. No matter how you try and spray, about the last 1/2" left in the bottle will not spray out. You have to pour out the last several ounces of the product.

    • @stripwell
      @stripwell  Месяц назад

      So sorry for the late reply @kennedymueller1788! I'm sorry to hear that the spray bottle was a cause of frustration. We get those from a different company and sometimes they can be faulty. We have tried many different versions. The really good ones are simply not cost-effective, so we have found bottles and triggers that walk that line and keep the cost more reasonable.

    You should be using a plastic putty knife not metal.

    • @jackbones309
      @jackbones309 Год назад +1

      Good suggestion. Although I will say, as long as you go with the grain, the scratches either won't be noticeable or there will barely be any at all. Now if you go against the grain, that's a different story.
