Could I use nail polish remover in a small spot to test to see if it's lacquer or polyurethane before buying acetone?

you can get gloves that are impervious to acetone

Hi, i used acetone on a veneer and i may have left it on too long which left the table top splotchy. Is there a way to correct it?

Try steaming it with a rag and an iron or oxalic acid but be careful with the acid if you go that route! I hope it works

I would wipe it down again with a rag soaked in acetone and see if it helped.
      Also lightly sand it.

You say this is a “fine steel wool’ but then say both number 4 AND 4 zero. So which is it?

I'm a newbie and would like to strip a bed frame from Bombay Company. I bought the bed off marketplace thinking it is solid wood but it has veneer. Would this technique work to remove the varnish off so i can refinish it? Any tips would be appreciated!

It should work fine if its a lacquer finish which most furniture is. But if it's stubborn you may need to use stripper followed by acetone.

Is that really varnish or is it lacquer?

That technique will work on lacquer or shellac finishes, we try it first before trying more aggressive chemicals. It's a good place to start.
      Thanks for the comment.

It is lacquer, I use varnish as a term for any clear coat that goes on furniture, but I know the true definition of varnish isn't that.

Y didnt you use the lazer?

    • @danthefurniturerepairman9411
      @danthefurniturerepairman9411  4 месяца назад

We have 2 shops and the laser is usually in 1.
The second shop we strip about 80% of our pieces using acetone.
We will purchase a second laser soon but the prices are coming down and we are deciding what size to get.

Could you do this to hardwood floors if you’re willing to do small sections at a time? I saw a woman use acetone on hardwood floors to strip. She then lightly sanded them and bleached them with bleach/water mixture.

Most flooring has a strong polyurethane on it which is harder than lacquer. It may make the floor varnish easier to remove but I always sanded flooring to get to be raw wood.
