  • Purchased in 2012, lets take a look at how my EV ZXA1 subwoofer has held up throughout the years at roughly 300+ events. This little box puts out decent bass for a group of 100 or less at most typical private parties or weddings. But can it stand the test of time?
With the new QSC KS112 ($999, 2000w peak, 128db, 63lb) on the market, what is the best small subwoofer to get?
The ZXA-1 is an older sub ($599, 700w, 126db, 46lb) but works quite well for smaller events.

Liked the honest video. Personally, This has been a perfect sub for the last 5 years. I DJ smaller patio Events for various ages and open-format music. I'd best describe it as a "full sound", it will compliment your bass-less tops. I only use "One" and love it 80% of the event, the other 10% (serious dancing time) I'd like a little more bottom from it. Maybe Two would solve that. Hope this helps anyone interested.

This earlier EV sub has been outclassed by the EV ELX200-12sp sub, which is a bit lighter and significantly louder (126db vs 129db peak SPL). The ELX200 also has an M20 screw-mount socket for the pole, compared to the tapered hole on top of the ZXA-1 sub. Price is about the same.

What I did was that I put in the speaker driver that I took from the Bose MB12 and man, it became an awesome sub and I love every beat coming out of it. I really think the cheap speaker driver is the culprit. I will just put in the Eminence Kappalite 3012LF just to see how it is. I anticipate it will beat the Bose speaker easily though.

... i have four of them... usually i use 2 of them paired with Yamaha StagePas 600i... but, when needed, i supplement that combo /w +1, but never got to use all 4 of them... may be some out door event some time...

I just bought two. Because I like the size and weight of them. I. Already own 10 very large and heavy bass horn/subwoofers that are a bitch to deal with. Ya they move a lot of air but for small occasions I feel like these ev’s will be just fine. And the price is great. Also I have. I problem buying a couple b&c 12 inch woofers foot these.

Would you recommend getting 2 of these to pair with k12.2's?

For sure. And for a typical DJ setup I would put both subs on one side (subs stacked with a K12 above one, or subs side by side with K12 above one) with the other K12 on the other side of the table/stage. Subwoofer coupling, free dB boost.
