EV ZLX, ZXA1, EKX, ELX, what the hell are these letters?.... What does ZLX mean?.. Those letters do not make any sense to me.. Why these estrange and hard to remember and understand names. ZLX should be called.. 1, the next one, 2, 3, and so on.. And every new upgrade with a new number.... 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ... and next two numbers with the size.. 1.12.. 1, 15.. and so on... EASY... It has taken me a week to understand and I still can not memorize these names ....
Yes would have been good to feature both, though we wanted to keep the video a bit shorter. The 30M and 50M are functionally very similar in terms of the mixer features, though with the 50M you are able to link 2 of them together and double your channels!
What size event and venue would you say a 30m would be suitable for without sounding too small? I’m a solo electric guitarist/singer who will be using an array system with backing tracks. The 50m is outside of my budget, so I’ve begun researching the 30m as well as the Bose L1 Pro 16. The EV array systems seem superior where engineering and construction are concerned. Thanks, and great video.
Sorry! The ETXs did deserve a mention. In this video we kept it to speakers we physically had available in our showroom at that time which unfortunately didn't include the ETX.
Same thing I said the etx is a beast my friends has a set they sound amazing and are amazingly loud wish I woulda saved on got the ekx line instead of the zlx12p when they came out the amps tent to get toasty
Depends what you're using it for. The zlx12p does get very hot. However you can't really push the speakers too hard for too long, you're asking for trouble. Most jobs it will run hot but they'll be fine. However you can still damage the speaker if you over drive them for too long. I cannot specify how long and how hard due to many factors depending how the person uses it. Yes they do clip easily. I somewhat like the sound of the hf driver on them but my elx 200 12p does get much louder and cleaner. Not as crisp as the zlx but you hear cleaner sound on live vocals and they do run warm(way cooler than the zlx) I used mine yesterday for an Islamic event and the singer was impressed how loud it got before feedback. I would have loved to try an ekx 12p but the elx is perfectly fine. If I used the zlx12p yesterday (my friends speaker) chances are I'd have to push the speakers a little harder. They start to limit but would have played all night like that just hitting limit on some higher notes of the singer and they'll get really hot to the touch. So to know how good they are, I don't know but I can tell you, my friend is using his for 3 years with lots of events using bass instruments and vocals and his speakers are still fine, no damage and the speakers sound better now than 3 years back.
Also he said crossover built into sub. Not in EV, you have to select DSP on sub and top independently, no matter how you hook it up, EV subs outputs dont cut anything
Wanted flexibility for band PA or mobile DJ. Physical limitations required +-40 lbs mains, +-60 lbs subs. Just purchased 2 ELX-200 15s and EKX-15SP subs. Kept my 2 QSC CP-12s for fill in/added sound or monitors. What venue/crowd size do you think I can handle? BTW, just subscribed. Great videos!
Situational. If ur doing hip hop/R&B, etc., chest-thumping base is needed, u need 18" subs. The 15" subs give me more refined bass. Allows tops to focus on mids/highs, which gives more coverage. Did an outdoor reunion (70s music) for +-250, no subs. Asked to turn it down at 60-70%. Doing an outdoor fund raiser in April, +-350 people, my mains and subs, QSCs as stage monitors. I DJ before/after live band. Host hired top sound engineer. Asked him if I needed Xtra spkrs. Said he was fine w/just my EVs.
Hi, a friend with a lot of hi-fi experience told me that these speakers can replace a system very well, do you agree? He says they have great detail and great dynamics and bass, with a great sound even at low volume... What do you think?
I really like my 2 EKX-12p with EKX-18sp subwoofer. They do sound great even at low volume. I bought them for DJing and the occasional live music. And they were recommended to me at my price point by a friend who is a well respected live sound engineer in my city. (They're nothing compared to his Danley and Void systems, but also dirt cheap in comparison.)
I have a pair of ELX200 12sp subs and they work great with 10" JBL Eon 610 tops. At just 42 lbs each, they're the most portable subs around (even lighter than the ZXA1 sub). The advantage of 12" subs is you can set your crossover at 120 Hz to reduce the low-mid power load on your 10" tops. That allows you to drive more high-mids (like vocals) through your tops without distortion or power limiting.
I've been using the same pair of EV full range speakers for over 25 years. I've never ever needed a sub. Each speaker puts out 2,100 watts RMS with 139 spl continuous.. I also have a pair of Cerwin Vega speakers that put out about the same. No subs here.. Nice video
I REALLY, REALLY, appreciated this video. You answered all of my questions. Thank You!
EV 12" ZLX Speakers, All the way. We do outdoor band gigs and indoor band gigs with one pair. Amazing speakers. An awesome sounding speaker.
That speaker the weakest out of the series and can’t take no power
@@henryledford8835 still has a huge punch
I used 2 of those for an outdoor event and it felt too weak.
They're amazing for the price, especially paired with some subs, but they clip way too easily
@@mbolezwhat do you mean with they clip?
Can you stream music from Spotify etc. to the ELX200 series via Bluetooth?
No audio streaming with those, the Bluetooth connectivity is just for monitoring and controlling the DSP.

i go with EV over RCF/QSC all day. If you wanna go one notch up, then go with bassnoss. otherwise EV ftw standardly!
Ev speaker wise ekx then theirs the etx monster
Confused about your review, you said the ZXA1 Sub is lighter then the ELX200-12SP , from what I have read , it’s the other way around !!!
Do you know any place in Uganda where I can test the sound or two buy?
I'm looking for a suggest for speaker for hosting karaoke. Do gain anything with going with a 15" model over a 12"?
I have the ZLX 15 and its not a 1000 watts more like 350 watts of real watts

I agree with you so I always check the retail price on each model and that gives me an idea of what the quality is behind the letters 😊😂
🔥🔥 do you know any place where I can test the sound out in London ?
Yo you missed it Electro-Voice ELX200-18SP Subwoofer
You could have done more detail on the 50 m also..not just the 30m line array

Any comment on how hot the back of the speaker (ZLX12P) gets, and what this means? Reading LOTS of comments about how often this speaker blows...

ZXA1-Sub = 20.9 kg . The ELX200-12SP = 19.1. 😂😂😂 you going to have to make a new video 😆🤣😂

This was a great video, shame about James losing his legs though
Don't worry he's still got them, it's just a clever illusion. Occasionally you can just about make them out!
nice video, do you know if EV will bring out a mobile pa speaker with a battery?
They just did 8 months after your comment. I think it’s called The Everse

I went with the ETX three-way speaker. It’s way too heavy(84lb), but sounds really good.
I’ve used them for many 300-400 guest weddings and it’s so loud
