    Thanks for this video. I know I still need to here these live for a proper comparison, but I could still hear a distinct difference from speaker to speaker. And the information provided (mics, caratoid speakers, delays, etc.) was very educational.

    What is the problem with people nowadays acting like morrons and spoiled kids? It's a shame to know most of us commenting here are adults and we are not posting constructive comments. If you are going to bash or make fun of people and make stupid comments on their videos then you have a problem. You better enrich your souls and not your ego. Bragging about your academic education and other silly comments makes you look immature. These videos are helpful to potential buyers who are interested on buying gear and cannot travel to places and listen to them. I live in Honduras, Central America, our market here is very small and sadly we are not able to get most of the gear that we would like to listen to before purchasing. So these videos are the ones that people like me look out for. We probably won't get a full idea on the sound but we do get a slight idea on specs. and characteristic or even tips we must know about the gear before purchasing. So please be constructive people and lets be thankful to all the people who take their time to film and upload these videos for us to enoy! GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

    Good work guys...but if you do ever get a chance to talk with the EV guys....mention to them about how poorly they package their subwoofers....picked up 2 ETX18SP and they are both damaged from transit...boxes looked reasonable for a cross the country journey but the packaging is very minimalist. Easy fix for a 1500 dollar sub....some high density foam or reinforced cardboard corners would not cost that much money....

    I have 2 EV 15" ZLXP's and 2 15" EKXSP's. They are very exceptional together. More than I would ever need. Also I have a pair of the the Evolve 50's. They are awesome as well. VERY AWESOME! Both sets! I have asked Djjer questions at times and he has been VERY helpful. EV has it together and good reps as well to help. Djjer and Brian S. Redd are very knowledgeable and are go to's for many questions! Don't want to offend anyone but try as much to go hear the speakers somewhere. I have a Rock& Roll band and I have to say before I saw this video, I listened to so many speakers. I owned a pair of the QSC 152s and 153s, both great speakers but did not like the 60 degree dispersion of the 152s so wanted to upgrade. I listened to JBL SRX815 which were a huge upgrade from the PRX series but I got the ETX 15ps choosing them over the SRX which were a little louder but not as clean and clear as the ETX which ARE PLENTY LOUD ! I disagree with the EV guy about the ETX 12p preferred for live music. He did say it was just his opinion. With a band you have stage volume along with everyone being mic'd up so the tops need to cut through with clarity, fullness and plenty of headroom to spare and these do it all. Just amazing. I still have the QSC 153s which are fantastic and by using the delay in the EV's we will have a killer set up placing the QSC's out front for deep rooms or outside venues. To sum it up, the ETX 15P are preferred for live bands, not just DJ gigs.Trust me. We have done several shows and always have the typical musician or two come up during and after the shows commenting on the unbelievable sound they put out. Great job EV.

    So for passive versions on an ekx we should put in 750w rms from an amplifier to get the speaker to peak at 1500w however it's better to have a little more put into the speaker and have available power. Why don't the active versions put out that much? I see it only uses under 300w of power

    Lovely video ... really explained the diff through the entire line-up.
    How would you rate the top of the line 15" ETX cab v/s the ZXA5-90 ?? ... I'm talking about sound quality & tonality, power, spl's ... the dsp is irrelevant to me.

    • @discjockeynews
      @discjockeynews  7 лет назад +3

      A couple of differences. 1. is sound quality. The ETX does sound better as they sit at mid volumes. The ZLX has a bit more tuning from the DSP to sound good, while the ETX is flat and can produce the better sound quality without and built in EQ boosting. Which means, that at lower volumes, they sound SOMEWHAT similar. But, that changes as you go louder. The ZLX will run out of gas WAY before the EKX or the ETX.. but, for many wedding DJs, the ZLX is the perfect price point/sound quality top to make their shows rock!!! Not everyone NEEDS the ETX or even EKX.

      Bummer ... Coz I have the ZXA5-90's for 6 years & they rock ... loudest 15" cabs ever made ... great SPL's & still unsurpassed in it's whopping 1250 rms power.
      This would have been a great comparison although I figure the ETX would sound a little cleaner with the new drivers, wood cab & dsp. As far as loudness is concerned, the ETX has a higher SPL whereas the ZXA5 has 250 more rms power. Wonder which wins there ??

    • @nigel8649
      @nigel8649 4 года назад

      @@prakashwadhwani I would lean towards the ZXA5 more than the ETX if being loud and crisp is what you want. The ETX's have a better look but can't match the power and wow of the ZXA5's.

      Powered. Especially if you're not permanently installing the speakers. Having to lug around heavy amps and set the power levels to the speakers/subs...just a headache.

    • @ViihdeJukat
      @ViihdeJukat 8 месяцев назад

      @@SuperBigVanilla I do passive all day for mobile. Easy one man cariable amp flight case to ground and controller to table subs and tops 4 cables and start playing. Powered are horrible needing extra cases for all xlr plugs and power cords+power exentender cables, yes dont mix power and xlr cords in same box for live situations. Also if you happen to destroy one ekx speaker the amp costs twice than buying 2 passive speakers. And usually you buy 4 channel amp to drive with just 2 channels all tops if you happen to burn one channel, hey just flib speacon to 3rd or 4rth channel and continue. Passive with amps win in smalla amount boxes and cables than active systems. And belive me i have done both, I have loaned active wedding system and used my passive systems and I know what I speak. Passive you need only speackon bag and mixercase witth speakers and controller. lol If I chose always passive also because passive dont have ecectric humm probelms other than if your mixer causes them in some situations. But with active system you can have humms from anywhere, next beer fridge on one speaker and so one. Passive systems never fail. Only good what I saw was ETX had power limiting system, that prevents you beating speakers. But in passive systems usuallu we do tape on knop to prevent dj adding more power. Also we can lock the door for amps, so dj are not able to get to the amps.
      An if you happen to do big room wedding with lot speakers on walls, in passive you can connect each speakers 4 to same plug and drive 2ohm load, but then again if you are installing lightining arround the wedding, think how much you need power extending cables more... A lot. And You have extenders for your speakers already in active system. So much more gear needs to be carried and installed with active speakers. Passive reduces a lot install time during weddings and such. Try adding 1 bluetooth active speaker more to drive another rooms, there active speakers execls.

    Is it just me, or did the ZLX sound best despite the lower output level? ETX vocal response was better, but ZLX seemed fuller sounding to my ears, if a little “v-shaped” in frequency response. I thought the EKX was super brash and boring sounding! To my ears, the ELX actually had less low end in the recording than the ZLX, but it was probably louder over all. There may have been more bass, hence the comment about feeling it more, but the difference in the treble loudness was greater to my ears.

    • @skypallman6169
      @skypallman6169 4 года назад +4

      Its called power rating. You have max power (1000watts) and then there is RMS Which is continuous power (500watts). A lot of audio companies do it all the way around! Car head units claim they do 50 x4. Realistically you're getting between 23 and 25 watts a channel. Have to look how they are rated. A lot goes into it. Active speakers are great because they are mobile and require a lot less setup. If you truly want the best system. Go with a passive version and put a good rack mount amplifier that does at least 500watts over the speakers recommended RMS power handling. I normally double it. Think of it as a car engine. (Say 4k is readline) If you have a 500 watt amp, And you start pushing it and getting into high volume, You are basically starting to redline the amplifier which will cause it to heat up, causing distortion. If you put an amplifier on the speaker that is double what it is rated, using meters and an o scope and finding your clipping levels from input and output setting things up correctly, that amplifier will just be chilling because instead of redlining the amp to get the power the speaker needs....your amp is sitting at 2k on the tachometer, playing cool and efficient because it's nowhere near it's peak power. Most people have no idea that underpowering a driver can damage a speaker more than overpowering it if it's done right. Amp peaks out,heats up,starts distorting, heats up the a voice coil on the driver. Boom...blown speaker.

In reality when u look at the power draw, it doesn't even pull anywhere near 500w

    expensive is always better, now to the big point:::::: whattyouguysonnabout with testing with that music? normal electronic music is 10times more demanding and then its lot easier to seperate the good from the bad, this music u play u can use a old carlsbro or peavey setup from the 80s and it still sounds the same almost!
    anyhoo i have the zlx15 before i saw this video and they are awsome

    For me, the video was a waste of time. I'm looking for a speaker that has a nice flat response from bottom to top without that hollow plastic sounding midrange. I'm a keyboard player and a digital grand patch has so many overtones and dynamics that need to be reproduced to get a quality sound. Why doesn't someone put out a video of musical instruments being reproduced. I found a pair of Yamaha near field monitors that sounded fantastic....but they are to under powered for live gigs. I'm looking for that type of sound and dynamics out of a pair of larger speakers for he stage.

      I am also a keyboard player,,,I have the same problem,right now I use the Yamaha CP73 very nice through a Roland KC500,,great sound but it doesn't fit in my newer car,,,,same reason I didnt get a cp88,,,the only speaker that comes close for me is the EKX,,,I noticed more subtle sounds,,and it the same weight as my Roland,,,Im getting old and was looking for a light weight option,,,I am just a little leery about the zlx,,,I do mostly small clubs as a solo gig,,,cocktail hours and such,,,, but I am also looking for a trio or more to expand my horizons ,,,esp if I get a Hammond sk1 also,,,,,I am leaning towards the EkX,,,as a more versatile speaker,,,what are your thoughts ?

      maybe check out danley sound labs, they are not cheap but they sure have a flat response. if you really have budget, take a look at l acoustics.

    The review was OK till he started saying the first 2 are 1000w boxes, rather than talking about RMS. I switched off after that.

    • @discjockeynews
      @discjockeynews  6 лет назад +2

      which is kind of silly.. wattage is somewhat meaningless.. the SPL rating is what you need to know.. how much sound can they make.. over how much power they can produce in a cabinet that might be horribly inefficient and not get very loud with 1000 watts of power. Check out the SPL ratings on speaker over wattage and you will find that a better gauge for comparison.

    • @johnalfieri1613
      @johnalfieri1613 6 лет назад +1

      Did you guys watch till the end ? He clearly says wattage does not matter which is true. He said he would rather not call out those specs. SpL which has much to do with the efficiency of the box is the most important. Even more than RMS

    Are these speakers suppose to make a loud annoying humming sound because I just started playing a pair of ekx 15p I just bought and it’s making this noise, before you ask, no it’s not the fan noise this is coming from the speaker ,is that normal because it’s freaking annoying!!!! THESE SPEAKERS ARE NOT MADE IN THE ‘USA’ AS THEY SAY ........THE PAIR THAT I HAVE ARE MADE IN CHINA IF I WOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE BOUGHT THEM

    • @tuneroneff

      What the noise was coming????

      tuneroneff It actually was a hissing sound. I called EV which was answered by a customer service person from Bosch Securities, EV is owned by them now. I asked them about the hissing sound and they said it was normal. They said it was due to the amplifier being directly connected to the speaker that you would get a hiss and when the music is being played you would not hear it which was correct. To be honest the speaker sounded good to me. I returned them to the store and asked if all powered speaker made a hissing sound and they said yes. I would not be able to confirm that because did not purchase another speaker. A friend of mine who DJ’S suggested going with passive speakers with separate amps and mixer board because you could adjust the sound to your liking because EV Speakers DSP could not be turned off so you are stuck with that. With that being said I would suggest to go to a store to listen to them and other speakers , even passive speakers with separate amps. Like I said the EV EKX sounded good. I am also annoyed with these speakers being made in China when they say they are made in the USA , but that is a personal opinion.Sorry for the long reply. I hope it helped good luck in what ever you purchase.

      Libten Ambutkin I have the EV EKX 15SP Subs and the ZLX 15P speakers and mine are phenomenal! Sometimes the hissing and static sounds can be (and I'm saying, CAN BE) the wiring in your house. Try a 14 awg extension and plug into different outlets in your home or where you are listening to them. Even try a different place to test them. Try cables and other things as well for faults as it may not be the speakers. The process of elimination. I would want to know as well. But I can tell you mine are exceptional and I also own 2 of the the Evolve 50's and they are very exceptional as well. Take care and good luck!
