Checking out the EKX vs ELX live in the store was an eye opener. The EKX were substantially fuller and warmer than the ELX. had the ELX beat by a good margin for me.
I have a set of the previous generation ELXs and have had a lot of compliments on the sound, they "breathe" a little more than what most of the guys playing bars in my area are used to hearing. The only trouble I have with them is that being passively cooled, if I'm doing an outdoor gig and the sun is directly on them, I have hit thermal shutdown a couple times while someone is performing and that's not great. I'm also taking some bigger gigs lately and running them pretty near full power. I've been so happy with them though I'm wanting to stay with EV and just move up to a set of EKX series units. I also like that replacement amp plates are available on Full Compass. My ELX200 subs have been doing great this summer and they're so light, I think I'd rather just get a 2nd set of those instead of upgrading them.
All else being more or less equal the wood box will out perform poly 9 times out of 10 but what poly may lack in sq it more than makes up for when it comes to weight reduction and durability which are absolutely important factors for anyone out doing gigs. And whatever the sound difference it's negligible only detectable to the trained ear who's zeroed in listening intently the average Joe will never even notice.

@@israelprats8743 I assume google will translate this for me but if it's at a large cost, the difference isn't noticeable and not worth switching between them. EKX sounds better but it's not a change worth upgrading for.
The ekx is warmer and slightly thicker sounding. Both were similar but the ekx seems a little easier to listen to. Both sounded good but I like the ekx a tad better on this test.

Can we get a Wood vs Polyproplene shootout between the Electro-Voice ELX112P vs Electro-Voice ELX200 12P or 15 inch woofers? Raw specs are similar between the two. It would be interesting to see if any significant sound improvements to the ELX200 over the ELX. Hey I’m having issue of deciding which speaker combo to get at my budget hears my options 2 ZLX 15p with ekx 18 subwoofer or to ekx 15p tips with. Cheaper sub will I pls give me opinion on this since your familiar with these speakers
I dont hear any significant difference and I have EKX speakers so to me the only real difference is the EXK line is 1500watts the ELX line is 1200watts, & the significant price difference EXK being $800 vs ELX $699. Other than the decision between sacrificing 300watts and a wooden box the ELX is a great bang for the buck in most ways
I'm about to buy EV tops for my new subs EKX 18p. I live in Mexico and play mostly at beach weddings with wind,salty air and sand. For the same price I can choose between EV Elx200-15p or EKX 12P; my concern is that I heard that EKX 12P has a ventilation system (internal fan) and I'm afraid it might throw in a lot of sand and salty air. Elx200-15p seem to have a more closed cabinet, probably with no fan. I'm writing you to get suggestions for my purchase. Which speaker do you think would fit my needs ?
Bullshit. I have a EV wedge monitor that has a 15 with a horn that sat out in my garage thru Minnesota winters and summers for 12 years without being covered or used. I brought it in and cleaned it up and plugged the amp into it and it worked as good as the day I bought it.

The EKX has a larger sound stage, is warmer and throatier. The ELX200 has a much more tight feel, not as expansive, a little more narrow
EKX sounded brighter...ELX200 sounded more full bodied.. I prefer the ELX200

Appart wouldn't make any difference. Together both sounds great. One is just little flatter than the other little deeper/softer.

I have 2 EKX 12P. I’m gonna use a single 18inch sub, a QSC 181. What would be the best setting? 100hz?
EKX has a slight more tick in the tweeters but overall they sound the same. I need to look at the price difference now.

ELX sounded less colored. The K model has more mids. Cabinet material like woods of a guitar has little impact to the average listener.

More clarity and power on the ekx. Elx sounds muffled compared to the ekx
EKX is deeper in the lower frequency range
They sound almost the same. Also the ELX200 and EKX shares the same LF Woofer.
