I ended up purchasing the full complement of 2 ZXA1 tops and 2 ZXA1 subs with poles/covers. I could not be happier. I ended up listening to all my music over and over. The sound was so crystal clear. They sounded like hifi or studio monitors. I could not be happier. I may consider the sale of my older rig and consider a pair fo ZXA5's for larger places. Thanks for the review guys.
Hey Brian! LOVE your videos. I like this system I'm looking for a system that is lighter than my current one, but I'm afraid these won't be loud enough for my wedding venue I currently DJ at. The Max occupancy of the room is 250, and typically the events are under 200 people. Half (at most) of those people will actually dance. Do you think two of these tops and two of these subs will do the trick?
BRian, I totally agree. That is THE system for you. I'm currently upgrading my whole sound myself. I've always been an EV fan. I use them outdoors as well as indoor events and they are FANTASTIC. I'm getting the LIVE X series. Purchasing (2) ELX118 passive subs, (2) ELX115, and (2) ELX112. That should cover all the bases. LOL. Just gearing up so I can manage Big and/or small events.
One side always sounds slightly diff than other side. I have checked everything I could possibly check. Any suggestions? Besides this issue, I love this system.
Jees.... Not seen EV in YEARS!!!! I used to dj with a local dj when i was younger, he had EV speakers and loved them, i was never a massive fan, but i guess they did the job!
I run a pair of ev sx300 passive speakers. They are amazing. Ive really become a fan of ev after hearing some of their products. Im sure these will be amazing for you Brian.
That should sound pretty good, one thing u wanna look out for when pairing speakers with subs is the filter, those RCF's have no lo pass filter so you need a sub with high pass, the ev zxa1 has a switchable high pass filter so the sounds won't be phasing each other out
brian would you say that sub alone with a pair of rcf art 312a's would sound good. so for example main speakers rcf 312a tops one EV ZXA1 sub how would that sound.
I found what i am looking for. once again, thank u brian. but, will it sound good with my pair of K 12? thats what i will be using it with... please reply, so i can go on with the purchase... thank you
Amazing way to gig solo Brian. I listened to this with my studio monitors (M-Audio BX5a), and it sounded pretty good. Would you recommend these for other DJ's who are just looking for compact systems? How would they be for....lets say... outdoor weddings?
Looks like a very nice little system. Not overly intrusive visually so good for the wedding market. For me the only negative is that the (so called) sub doesn't drop very low. But then that's the trade off for a size and weight saving.
Dude I Believe U., Where I'm from EV Speakers Are always the best Options when it comes to Deejaying, and it don't matter the size of the speakers, good sound quality as always :)
Can I pair these with my ZLXp15" speakers. Im looking into adding 2subwoofers to my pair of ZLXp15" speakers... I like the size and weight of these subs. I was looking into the ELX 18" subs they are too big and bulky, would these 12" subs do the job with my 15"s?
In Short, no they wouldn't. If you have the zlx15p's as tops, then there is no point in getting a sub that is smaller than the actual main top. I recommend going with a single 18 inch subwoofer. I personally recommend the Alto TS SUB 18.
+Diego Hernandez Maybe, These little EV subs may not put put more bass than what you already have. I have seen people pair them with Zlx 12ps before, so maybe it is worth it.
I have decided on going with higher quality speakers to start. I was looking at some $300 Alto or Behringer ones, now I think I've settled on the EV ZLX 12" 1000w powered tops.. would a small sub like this benefit speakers like that, or should I look into a 15" or 18" sub? I dream of a set of Cerwin Vega P-series... but that's 18" subs... trying to decide if I should get a small sub to go with the EV 12s, or just hold off and get the first of 2 CV 18" subs as my first sub... for the types of events I'm thinking I'll be doing, the EV ZLX 12" speakers should be fine by themselves really... the ZLX really look more classy than the B212D I'd almost pulled the trigger on... am I wise to wait a few months and get the "better" speakers to start, even if that means no sub for a while? And then, would I be better off just holding out for the expensive sub, or would one of the smaller and/or cheaper subs out there benefit my 12s quite a bit, until I'm making the $ to buy the CV setup I dream about.... I eventually want to be able to do Large Halls and dances in Gymnasium sized rooms,... sorry for the book, but you have exp. and I value your input... Thanks again for all of your videos... keep shining my friend....
briansredd....first off, sorry to hear about your setback. I admire your perseverance ! Second....I haven't actually HEARD these yet. I'm a single op myself, who's getting older, and I never have wanted to lug around big subs, unless I really needed them. You HAVE heard these, so your opinion..... For smaller weddings, let's say to just under 200 guests, would I be able to use a pair of EV SX350s with ONE of these ? Thanks and hang in there.
you might wanna look into passive systems again, that way the amp doesn't need to be lifted. there are many quality, very lightweight tops on the market for good prices. get some digital amps in separate, stackable cases. crossovers wouldn't even be necessary since there are many amps that have filtering built in. add some small subs and you've got a system that consists of a lot of pieces, yes, but is also light, yet performs well
BRIAN - THESE ARE THE SPEAKERS I HAVE - I TOLD YOU ABOUT THEM THE OTHER DAY - I BOUGHT THEM FROM BEN @ NLFX - THEY ARE SUPER LIGHT - GOOD FOR UP TO 150 PEOPLE AND YOU CAN ADD THE SUB FOR EXTRA BASS
@WeddingDJBusiness All options are still open. Just exploring them. I think i can do this system for the same price or less & play for maybe 100 more people than the L1
From a setup point of view two bose l1 compact would be quicker lighter and faster to setp and look better. Look at the wires on poles . This looks like a good solution for rougher gigs. Two bose l1 you would be able to lift with each hand> I think the total weight is less than. 29 lbs 13 kgs makes a huge difference ie going up down steps etc.
I use EV's I Can't praise them enough I use the ELX Passive Range the ELX Range for me only has one downside They're easily damaged so you might want cases if the manufacturing process is the same. Though that XZA range looks tougher to be honest but the sound is unparalleled for the price range in my opinion.
BRIAN U DNT LOOK ALL THAT BAD THO U LOOK LIKE U REALLY ARE BACK TO YUR OLD SELF...I KNW WHAT U GOING THRU MY DAD IS STILL IN THE SAME BOAT HE WENT THREW A STROKE BUT HE'S DAY TO DAY I TRY & GET HIM OUT OF HIS FUNK...BUT HE HAS HIS DOWN DAYS...BUT GREAT VID MAN!!!
@MrEndlessmusic You need to hit Ben up. He's on my Facebook friends list "Ben Stowe". I heard a price but i'm not sure if i heard it right. It would be a Ben hook-Up so again, should go thru him
THE DREADED EV ZXA1 = crap Chinese amps that run too hot and fail. Loud hissing on standby that the deaf can even hear. Fragile cabs with the worst designed top integrated slippy handle known to man. The world's thinnest padded bag slips and covers and very expensive. Apart from that nice sound. Massively overpriced . EV LOVES YOU ! TA RAH
All of your videos are great Brian. Your attitude is inspiring sir.

Would this speaker system work well in a rehearsal studio space? Would I need two?
Sweet little setup for house parties.
I've been using an EV760 sub for several years, wonderful product.
what was the phone RTA app in the video? I could use a good one...
brian would you say that sub alone with a pair of rcf art 312a's would sound good. so for example main speakers rcf 312a tops one EV ZXA1 sub how would that sound.

Hay Brian can you find out what the special price is, would love to pick up a pair of each top and subs
Amazing way to gig solo Brian. I listened to this with my studio monitors (M-Audio BX5a), and it sounded pretty good. Would you recommend these for other DJ's who are just looking for compact systems? How would they be for....lets say... outdoor weddings?
@MakeItFunkyProds Yes still exploring options. There may be a degree of mixing & matching as well
where on the website are they? cannot find them in the list under ev brand
Love these Brian!!!! What would a set of these do for you??? What kind of crowd could two 8s and two subs do? 250 max maybe?
how does the sound quality compare to the RCF's
Looks like a very nice little system. Not overly intrusive visually so good for the wedding market.

another good vid on the EVs

Really nice little speaker system :) I have the same iphone case as Ben as well :)
Danny

it should. i just bought the sub myself to go with my RCF 408A's

Behringers sound very nice, I would recommend them but only the 15 inch active versions
WAIT WHAT ARE THOSE STAR CALLED WHO MAKES THEM?????
briansredd....first off, sorry to hear about your setback. I admire your perseverance !

I suggest Pyle pro speakers
nice!
Sweet.
@DJJfr3sh You know, i don't think they are posted yet. If you hit Ben Stowe up on Facebook, he'll get you the info & take care of you
@emeraldcitydjgil sounds like 250 according to Ben. Sounds about right to me
@StarBoyJonesProds oh i'm sure it would! we had 1 sub & i top & it filled that room perrfect
I use EV's I Can't praise them enough I use the ELX Passive Range the ELX Range for me only has one downside They're easily damaged so you might want cases if the manufacturing process is the same. IMO, The Bose L1 sucks.
