This clip is the best evidence that Bill King should be in the NBA broadcasters wing of the Hall of Fame. Match any aircheck of any play by play announcer there Bill beats them all hands down
They called these games, "simulcasts" . . . when the announcer was broadcasting the game on both television and radio. It's with these that you hear, and SEE, just how great Bill King was. His descriptions are perfect . . . so detailed and conveyed just a split second after the action.
Bill King was my intro to the NBA as a Bay Area lad in the mid 60s. I still have a memory or two of a game in the ‘67 NBA Finals, when Rick Barry lit it up for 55 against the 76ers. What a superb announcer Mr. King was. Just as accomplished calling hoops as Raider games. Was this a preseason game? I never heard of at least one or two of the Warriors seen in this clip.
Bob Weiss and Jerry Sloan would go on to very Succesful Coaching Careers. They also played with Rick Adleman at one time when Sloan and Weiss were on the Bulls Together I Believe
Bill King was the best! thanks for this audio/video!
Loved when he would say "fifteen footer, goes fourteen....air ball"
