      I don't think that the BMS offers much more fidelity than whole percentage numbers. I have Torque Pro on my Bolt EV (Ampera E) and it's low level only used 1 byte 0-255 for BMS state as I recall. So you can get maybe half percent values but realize BMS SoC is still an approximation.

    Can it show outside temperature in the instrument cluster? I find that very useful and in my Golf it's always there. I would also like to see the trip meter, very useful when you pass a sign saying there's a rest area in 1.5km, then I know when to look for it.

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts about improvements!
    I absolutely agree on the SOC - it should always be displayed, as should be the kW while charging, not the km/min. About the gears, I wouldn't like to have the car remember the last gear it was in: it'd mostly be R, meaning that I'd constantly be in danger of crashing the car into the garage wall ...

    Hope VW get things done in the e-Golf they delivered in 2020 ... cause a lot of bugs still in there.
    But regarding ID.3 I can agree to 95% of your points. I found a lot of the points more than annoying like flying digits for speed in the instrument cluster. Start with 0 on the right of the frame and not centered.
    Tiny things but really annoying like missing SOC in the cluster.

  • @vinceasmith
    @vinceasmith 3 года назад +2

    I agree with your suggestions. There is so much potential for the Nav and EV charger integration. Certainly in the UK the POIs for public chargers are incomplete. Many of the things I miss from my e-Golf with the Active Info display mean that VW certain know what can be done, but I want to know why they didn't choose to include it on the ID.3. There is so much to come on the We Connect ID app - I miss my download data from my e-Golf which I did once a month to see what i had been doing. Yes the data went into spreadsheets. I don't need that to be directly in the Infotainment system, just easily transferred.
    In terms of bugs, the boot up time is excessively long. It is not a car to jump into and drive. This is shame for an EV. But I am hoping that this is a software improvement that will come with the major update.
    I want all of the heating/cooling to be controlled remotely - that includes the screens, seats, steering wheel, mirrors.

    I have further functions not working:
    Pre-heating does not work on my car. I can program all I want but the car never pre-heats.
    The auto steering wheel and seat heating in low temperature only switches the steering wheel on never the seat.
    Functions missing:
    Delayed charging - so that I can benefit from cheap power at night
    A graphical view of efficiency over time like you have in BMW ICE cars
    A change to Range when I set a navigation route. I mainly drive city and contry roads but when I navigate somewhere where I will be driving on motorways the Range should adjust instantly not over the first 30-50km. The car knows what I will do - it should use it.
    Brakes are fine on my car.
    Agree on most other suggestions.
    Btw I am getting new software in my car next week = looking forward to seeing what it fixes. I have a lot of other smaller bugs that shows occasionally.

Similarly Sound, it can be moved to second screen.

    Does it show the amount of regen when you brake? In my Golf GTE (hybrid) it always shows this in a dial next to the speedometer. The needle goes from blue into a green area and when it reaches the end it means it has to apply the friction brakes. I find this very useful. I realised back in January the ID3 had chronic software problems, and that is when I cancelled my order and decided on the Kia E-Niro with proven technology. Such a shame because I was very enthusiastic about the ID3, but realised that the lack of information from VW meant things were serious. When VW declared they would reprogramme the software before releasing the car, that was another warning signal. Then when this did not happen, they said the car would be reprogrammed after delivery at the dealers. VW has really let down their 1st edition customers.

    • @fields1
      @fields1 3 года назад +1

      I decided the Model 3 was the only EV I’d consider for the time being. Tesla’s supercharger network is a vital piece of the puzzle if you’re in the US or even parts of Europe (Norway for example) where there are only Tesla Superchargers available. In the US it is an even bigger issue than in Europe. The other beauty of the Model 3 or any Tesla for that matter is the software updates, resale value, performance and efficiency. It’s hard to find a better all around package in my opinion.
      These concerns I’ve seen expressed about the ID.3 make me question the success of the upcoming ID.4 which will be VW’s first US-market EV (other than e-Golf compliance car). I hope they are working hard to fix these software bugs because people already distrust VW’s reliability. A new car plagued with 30 malfunctions will piss people off quickly.

    • @GowthamV07
      @GowthamV07 3 года назад

      Kia E Niro is a bad option when compared to VW ID3 in terms of technology. VW has invested lots into the ID cars also VW software is also being improved to match TESLA level. Maybe TESLA would have been a better choice instead of E niro which is not a built as an EV car. ID3 has more space due to MEB platform

    • @GowthamV07
      @GowthamV07 3 года назад

      @@fields1 I think ID4 will be successfully even with software problems because Software problems can be fixed with an update while manufacturing defects and massic panel gaps cannot be fixed with a software update.

    • @nigelpage612
      @nigelpage612 3 года назад

      @@GowthamV07 I would disagree with you. The E-Niro has better range, a larger boot and proven technology. It also has leather upholstery and better quality trim. It has a seven year warranty on the whole car. The new E-Niro 4+ has an 11 Kw onboard charger. The car was designed from the beginning to be capable of being petrol, hybrid and full electric. The ID3 is clearly well designed with good interior space but does have hard plastics in the interior which is clearly to save costs. The biggest issue is the software with lots of reported incidents. Has VW come out with an update tor rectifies these yet? However more to the point is that we as an electric driving community should encourage or friends and relatives to convert to electric cars and reduce emissions. You Tubers like Chris, Tesla bjorn and Andrew Till are doing a great job in pushing electric driving.

    • @fields1
      @fields1 3 года назад

      @@GowthamV07 Tesla has drastically improved their quality. Both of our Model 3s have no panel gap issues or misaligned interior trim. Also, software issues can cause hardware failures. Look at Polestar. They’re having to recall literally all of their Polestar 2s globally because of faulty parts and faulty software. I had far more problems with rattles and major component failures on my VW Golf GTIs than I’ve had with the Tesla. My last GTI ended up having an engine replacement at 12,000 miles. I’ve got over 32,000 miles on my Model 3 and it’s had ZERO hardware issues.

    When driving, all the driver would need is speed and next turn (and soc) + error messages. (and temperature/clock).When parking and charging there should be a popup to show charging speed (in kW/h)
    What radio station/music is playing is fit for the entertainment screen.

    Some extra's maybe to add to list:
    1: Driver profiles (depending on key) it remembers your settings like: drive mode, airco settings, radio stations order, prefered distance on ACC, mirror settings, color of interior lighting, etc...
    2: A netflix player (only usable when stationary) to make charging more fun
    3: ID light charging indicator to keep on showing when car is plugged in (now it stops after a while)
    4: Boot infotainment system faster (already start booting when car unlocks might save 30 seconds)
    5: Option to put auto high beam by default on without the need to use the handle for the lights
    6: cruise control i find it hard to go 1km/h higher, i do not get the hang of the hard vs soft touch. So maybe put the 1km/h on the set en res button in stead of the +- buttons. Or use pres for 10km/h and slide for 1 km/h
    For the rest most of your recommendations i find usefull. The one indicating that heating is on i find personally not that usefull, i do not care if it heats or not.Chris did you know that pressing with 2 fingers at the same time on the temp buttons sets your seat heater on? Ignoring all the outright bugs, which no doubt will be fixed, but focusing on the UI design, it would have helped if the designers had been given a Tesla to drive for a month. ;) Some of their design choices show a rather surprising inability to put themselves in the user's perspective, e.g., with the buttons to reset the trip counters. The most important Tesla innovation that is now needed is frequent software updates. This is not part of the VW culture yet, let's hope they can manage to make it a reality.

    Battery temperature should be mandatory. It is essential to driving characteristic of the car and maintenance of good state of health of battery. We should really make an online petiton and it could be sent to EU representatives and it could be really easy to make it obligatory for car manufacturers to give out "nerd mode" for car owner to have clear understanding. In USA they made cameras mandatory and even the cheapest car has it. Why not give out some of data that car uses to regulate its power usage/output. TeslaByorn did that little quad with cabin for deliveries and it had both battery and motor temperature indicators. In digital world, that is not even mentionable cost to implement on manufacturers and saves millions in battery wear on users if used on whole. How many battery capacity over thousands of vehicles and years of usage can be saved, prevented from too early degradation? and just a reminder, VW did make a software to fake emissions by RECOGNISING THE TESTING enviroment - so the software and hardware capacity is a non mentionable cost for a single digital display bit of coding in final version of user interface. how much code is to put "show batt temp value ('C)". and we should demand all data to be free available from car to be used by user, it is our car, i already had to sign that VW collects my data, why cant I collect my data?
