I met my husband when I was 16 and he was 17. Making it wasn't easy, but it was fun. After a total of 37 years together, cancer took away my happily ever after in August of 2022. This song was tough to hear. Please be sure those you love, know you love them. Life can change so quickly.
Poignant for me as I was farewelled by my mum and dad when I deployed on an operational deployment with navy. Dad rang me while I was at sea heading to East Timor and we talked for a while and then he said he loved me and was immensely proud of what I do. Six weeks later, my divisional officer came and asked me to his cabin…I knew something was up when the captain and the ships chaplain was in the room. Dad passed that day six weeks after that call…I was devastated but heartened that we said our peace with each other…good reaction and good song.
My husband of 33+ years passed away almost 4 years ago. I haven't heard this song in many years, but it made me cry. Bread was an amazing band and they could bring out any emotion. Check out the other beautiful songs by these artists. All worth hearing. ❤ Thank you for reminding me ❤
Lost my dad 9 years ago, it's almost like yesterday. Thankful to have been there to the end, he did squeeze my hand & was gone. Never take any moment for granted, young or old, you never know!
David Gates wrote this for his dad, after he passed, but it reminds me so much of my mom. I think of it as the universal I really miss this person song. 💔💓
This band was SO GOOD - David Gates vocals: PRICELESS...and, the tender guitar....from what I understand: this was written as a tribute to his father... SO BEAUTIFUL!!! Thanks for reacting to this one, Cliff!!
Cliff, you seem like a lyric guy. Go to Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young - Helplessly Hoping. This is a song with wonderful harmonies and killer alliteration.
Great fvccking song!!! It's been a couple decades since I heard this! What I would do for one more hug from my Mom and my dog "daughter!" All I've got left is my Dad.
Best reaction to this song that I’ve seen. Thank you for your beautiful instinct to call on us all to stop what we’re doing and reach out to someone near while there is still time. Take care everyone❣️
Rough to listen to, but beautiful song. My Mom passed four years ago, Dad in the 1990s. I had great parents, especially Mom. Helped me so much over and over through the years. I miss them so much. I try not to dwell on the past, but sometimes I catch myself thinking about the family home when we were all together when I was a teenager. Didn't appreciate it then, but I really do now. I know it's hard to explain to people who's parents are still here, but you don't understand the empty place it leaves in your life when they're gone. I understand some folks don't have good parents and I'm sorry for that, but if you do don't take them for granted.
I think you would really appreciate a dive into Bread's catalogue. David Gates was a great songwriter. Listen to Diary, If, I Want to Make It with You, Guitar Man...
You are one of the best reactors out there. Can't say I like all the genres you cover, but when it comes to classic Rock or progressive rock or even some of the more pop stuff I'll watch it for sure. You're the best! Thanks for all you do and for sharing
An album cut by Bread that is well worth hearing is "Our Lady Of Sorrow". Co-written and sung by Bread's other singer, James Griffin. It's a haunting song about a woman fighting addiction.
One of the quietest video's ever, had to crank my amp to an uncomfortable level. Still, really nice song and very well recorded/mastered, i miss good recordings of actual instruments istead of all the synthetic instruments that just dont sound right.
Being 64 and not having my father , who I argued with so much. I know after he's no longer here. He was truly the best friend I have ever or will ever have.
Yes it was written for his dad when he passed, but those lyrics have hit me so hard for years for that one special guy that got away. Just too many misunderstandings and stubbornness on both our parts. Just seems so petty now. 😭😭
This song came up in my Instagram, I rememebr David Gates wrote it about his father who passed away, than I remembered it will be 2 years ago tomorrow when he left us.
Miss you Mom. I know you are ok. I am too - just sad sometimes when I pick up the phone to call and remember the call won't go through. You are always with me in my heart❤🩹
The bravery, the vulnerability it took to put this song out there.
A song for Dad...a guy who was always there for everyone...until he wasn't.

Uuggg 😢 that sucks
I'm so sorry...these songs were some of the best love songs of our time...
Yes this song was written about his father who passed away while David was on the road touring and never got to say goodbye. ❤️💔
😢😢😢so so sorry for your loss

Lost my dad 9 years ago, it's almost like yesterday. Thankful to have been there to the end, he did squeeze my hand & was gone. Never take any moment for granted, young or old, you never know!
So beautifully written.
Bread and America are 2 of the best Raw talent bands ever IMO , both have killer vocals that pull out your emotions if you have a heart ❤️ 💙
David Gates wrote this for his dad, after he passed, but it reminds me so much of my mom.

When this song first came out, I hadn't lost anyone yet. Oh how that has changed....
This is such a sad song. Make sure you hug your family and friends and let them know you love them while you still have time! Love your reaction!

bread is a rabbit hole worth going down! It happens to be Gwen Stefani's favorite!❤
Great fvccking song!!! It's been a couple decades since I heard this!

David wrote so many amazing songs, as did James Griffin in the group. Check out some of their rockers, too. Amazingly talented group.
SO TRUE, IT'S AXIOMATIC
Love that you're on the classics. Love this song. Great reaction as usual my friend and Peace out ✌️ ☮️
I am impressed @Cliff... I really am, most people think the song is about a lost girlfriend.
🏴☠ They turned the comments off because too many people were trolling comments of grief on there.

Great song love it
React to more "Bread"! This is my favorite from them but their others are amazing also!
One of the quietest video's ever, had to crank my amp to an uncomfortable level.

If you liked this song I think you would like a song by blue rodeo: bad timing

You know he's singing one of his parents, right?

Great song and I really dig that hat, team blows this year😢
Why is the song in the background......? Can't really get the impression of it.
