I find that a lot of my “regret” makeup items actually become staples when I pair them with something else. What about a “Better Together” video, where you use products that work better when mixed/paired with another product than they do alone? I would love to hear your tips on how to decide what to pair and when products might work well together. Obviously the idea isn’t that viewers would buy both, but that just trying out different pairings could be a total game changer for our makeup. Example: at Marshalls, I bought the Becca Aqua Luminous foundation and the NARS All Day Weightless foundation-I got each for $10 and don’t love either on its own. But I mix them together and wear that combo almost daily! I would never have bought both at full price, but since I have them I’ve found a way not just to make them work, but a way I love wearing them. Or a bronzer that is a little deep can look seamless when I buff over the edges with a bronzer that is a bit too light. For me that’s key-I have enough makeup that I don’t want to use something I don’t love, because then something I do love may go bad in the meantime. But if I can find a way to use regrets in ways that make me actually want to use and love them, that’s so fun!
Hey pretty lady! Those Kathleen Lights pigments look awesome mixed with body lotion on the chest, arms and legs. Gives a subtle sheen for summer. That’s how I use mine...and I’m 57. 😂❤️🥰
Absolutely agree on the Stila Shimmers. Yet, I can’t declutter them..... 🥴
I love cream eyeshadows and I hate the stila shimmers. But like you I can't declutter them.
I let mine go last fall and have never regretted it. They were so pretty on my hand but never worked on my lids!
@Cee Cee SAME!!!! 🙃😫😬💯
I love mine!! I bought 6 colors, and wear them all!!
I SO wish you’d do a complete cool toned eye look, no warm tones. I challenge you! 😂😘
I second this!
Yes!
Indeed! She'd look so good!
I Love the Marc Jacobs bronzer. I have it and I would repurchase. It is gorgeous.
Definitely try using the Colourpop pigments in nail polish! I just made my own custom colour with mine the other day in clear polish! It’s absolutely beautiful, I love it!! 😃❤️👍🏼
How do you do that
I just used a small nail tool, a dual sided cuticle pusher that has a slightly rounded and scooped end, scooped up a tiny little bit of each of 3 different pigments and added them carefully into a clear nail polish bottle & shook it! Turned out beautifully!!
The one thing I will say about the Marc Jacobs bronzer is that though $49 seems hefty for a bronzer you get a TON of product! Compare it to other bronzers based on price per ounce and suddenly it's not so crazy.
Yeah that is right if you are going to finish it but if you will only use half or less you are not getting your money worth🤦🏻♀️
I have more why did I buy this moments than I'd like to admit 🤦♀️
Oh man 🙈 I have WAY more moments like this than I probably should lol. ON ANOTHER NOTE... Can you PLEASE do a tutorial on your eye look??? 😍😍😍
Yes! I just discovered Mandy’s channel and I NEED to know exactly how to do my eyeliner the same as her. 🤞🏼
Love exactly those type of colors in the tarte palette. LoL 💕
What a great idea for a video Mandy! I regret picking up the tatcha silk canvas primer. So expensive and I never ever reach for it
Those pigments.... a hack I learned somewhere is... using an old CD case cover as a pallet.... spray a bit of fix plus or other setting spray and pile a little pigment and then mix together and use a brush. It works good and not messy.
Ok so dupe alert for the Hourglass blushes! Maybe it isn’t necessarily drugstore dupe but it’s on sale on Becca’s website: the Khloe Malika Bronze Blush and Glow palette. It’s so great alone or as a topper.
Yes! I love that palette - even more than my hourglass!
I almost made the same mistake with Juvias place. I got all the way to checkout and then stopped myself. I went back and looked at the palettes again and thought I seriously don’t have the Warrior palette?! I ended up ordering that one. I’m waiting for it to arrive and that actually excites me!🥰
the kathleen lights pigments work really well as a nail polish if you want to find a way to use them but know you wont wear them on the eyes! I just do a clear coat and let it dry for about 2 minutes and then rub the pigment on with those sponge applicators and then a clear coat to seal it!
Lol. I'm late to this party but I just have to say the ND Love palette is my neutral palette that I go to, to get a more neutral look or to get those neutral shades to tone my look down.
Horses for courses for sure. Love how different we all are.
I agree about having everything needed in the palette to complete the look. I also just started using more color, so having just shades of pink, or just shades of green doesn’t work on me. I like neutrals with a pop of color or a wash of shimmer. I just got the magic mini, and I always pull out another palette to start and then add color from the mini palette. The Warrior palette is really nice.
Me too. Yup, the darker cool tone shadows are hard to blend...find purple is the worst.
I completely agree with you about CG foundations. Their older foundations always turned orange on me. I’m a lighter medium olive tone so maybe that’s why. I was excited when they came out with 40 shades and tried M10 thinking it would be a good match...it looked like I had put yellow highlighter all over my face!
The Marc Jacobs bronzer is the one expensive product I have zero regrets purchasing. I have some bronzer palettes from subscription boxes that are too shimmery, orange, dark, patchy or just gimmicky. Marc Jacobs is subtle, smooth and I look forward to using it everytime I do my makeup. Money well spent in my mind 😊 Tatcha liquid silk canvas is another story...what was I thinking 🙄 lol. Great video!
I do agree on the Natasha Denona Love palette. Not really my color scheme, but there are some nice shades in it. Wish I would have waited on this one-
I agree with you about the ELF eye putty is somewhat dry...but I use a flat concealer brush to apply a very thin layer and it works out really well...for years, I used Mally's eye base but now I'm using the ELF and really like it. I have the cream and the rose and both work well for me.
Ugh honestly preach on the TJ Maxx/Marshall’s mindset! I found myself having to limit my trips there pre-COVID because I would do the same - buy something just because I was excited to get a deal on something high end, only to hate the product itself/never use it. See: the Becca slimlight highlighter 😐
I just feel like if you spent your money on it and you don’t love it then sell it online through posh mark or mercari and then get some money back that you can put towards something you will love. There is no reason to force yourself to use something you regret if you can pass it along and someone else could love it.
I didn't know people buy makeup on Posh....
Thanks
Does anyone know if there are any changes regarding selling used makeup because of Covid? I've also been wondering if Project Beauty Share is still accepting donations.
Darlene Kreyling yes ma’am 😊 I prefer Mercari because Posh ark shipping is way more expensive.
I didn’t buy any of the Stila glitter shadows because I knew it I wouldn’t use it that often. I do have one Hourglass scatter light glitter eyeshadow and I love it and I do use it quite a bit. I really like the Love palette a lot, I don’t mind the bold colors but I haven’t used it in awhile because I have way too many eyeshadow palettes and I forgot about it lol. In general I don’t like Covergirl foundations but the Clean Fresh foundation is so so good and I think it’s only 10 bucks. I highly recommend it. It’s not matte but not too dewy, it feels amazing on the skin and it’s very long wearing. I think you’d really like it.
I definitely feel the same about the Zodiac pigments, I definitely bought them for my fantasy self 😭
Cover Girl and Maybelline foundations do that to me as well-they always turn peach! I have your complexion-light skin with olive undertones-so they just look so odd after about an hour of being on my face. Makes me so sad because there are some formulas I really love!
Hey Mandy, that Elf eye primer is definitely bad. Those primers are supposed to be like the MAC paint pots in consistency so you got one that's dried out.
Same dried out completely! I'll stick with mac paint pot my holy grail
the marc jacobs bronzer has so much product in it, it's actually a lot more cost effective than even a lot of drugstore bronzers.
I agree about the ND palette. I thought about buying it, but that price tag!😬
I have the Covergirl matte foundation and I like it b/c it’s not actually matte. More of a satin finish but I agree that their shade range is so confusing!
Yes! 😳 Cover girl foundations oxidize & turn almost a fluorescent, bad spray-tan color of orange & make my skin have an itchy tingly feeling that makes me really nervous. Their lipsticks, no matter what color I try, turn fluorescent pink & chap my lips. Their mascaras make my eyes itch & burn. All that to say, I’ve just come to the conclusion that I’m allergic to Covergirl so I avoid the whole brand all together!!!!
Thanks for your honest thoughts on all of these!
The elf putty primer I got worked the same way. It was super dry and I couldn't warm it up. So upsetting because I love ELF
Awe, the tartlet palette is one of my most used of all time!! Love it!
I found this video very helpful though! It got me off the ledge of wanting some of the other mentioned products!
I feel like the higher the price tag, the more likely I am to be disappointed since I have higher expectations....
I regret the Natasha Denona love palette too 😬 I don't really do pink looks, my favorite colors to use are blue and green so I really shouldn't have picked it up. But it was Vday so the pinks and reds were Calling to me 😅 plus this was my first product from her and I personally find the formula so finicky and patchy. It's just a pain to use. 🤷♀️
Thats a bummer. 😑 Are you going to keep it or return it?
Hi gorgeous!! Here's a video idea 💡 . A full face of nothing new ft. "products I regret buying "😁😁I'd love to see you wearing those pigments from Colourpop!!!
I 100% agree with the Natasha Denona pallet - so many shades I don’t use 😫 I do like the colour Blind (the silver) too. I will NEVER use the reds....
I mix oil or moisturizer into foundations that are too matte. Ex. UD all nighter is great during the summer, but during the winter, it’s way too matte for my combo skin. So during the winter, I mix in a gel moisturizer to help increase the hydration and get it to smooth out more evenly.
I used to swear by the covergirl 3 in 1 outlast foundation but I haven't worn it in years, same with the magnificent metals from Stila
Oh that was my go to for years! Maybe time to revisit...
I just love your videos. You are very authentic which I appreciate. Just threw out the tartlet matte pallets myself. 😢
I regret buying the Morphe xJaclyn Hill. I got the reformulated version and it's not good!
I got both the ABH Modern Renaissance and Soft Glam palettes and wish I hadn’t. The colors just don’t work well for me or I’m deficient in my skills in using them. I don’t like heavy, intense eye looks on me and these two sadly don’t work to give me what I want. Sigh. $130 gone.
I really loved the soft and sultry one! It took me a while to really love all the colors in the modern renaissance though!
I agree 100% with your opinions that’s why I love your channel thanks for the honest reviews👍🏻👍🏻🙏🏼🙏🏼🎉😘😁😁😁
I used the Covergirl vitalist foundation back in the day and LOVED it..BUT even the lightest shade was too dark for me...so I had to use a white foundation to lighten it. It was one of the first drugstore foundations that I actually used up..lol
I can totally relate to the regret purchase feeling ..... 🥺
It’s refreshing to see an Influencer who is conscious about the value and cost of products. I hope this doesn’t change as you receive more PR; it’s difficult to assess the value and cost of products if you aren’t actually paying for them!
The Elf eye primer I have is super creamy! It's one of the only eye primers I have that doesn't make the skin on my lids look dry and textured and because of that reason I reach for it almost daily. You should give it another try!!
I loved the Vitalist Healthy Elixer it did oxidize and I had to mix it with a lighter shade. The Warrior Palette is amazing!
I totally agree on Tartlette! Waste! I agree on neutral in each as well. It is not just you😁
A couple drops of sterile eye drops in the Stila glitter and glows brings them back to life, and it dries down the same. Also, you can pull the stopper out of them with tweezers and reach the bottom. Makeup spatulas are also really handy, sometimes I stir them up with the saline or eye drops to mix it up.
Great suggestion! Thanks Elena!❤️
MandyLea I realize it doesn’t help much if you don’t like them lol, but I hear those complaints a ton also.
Your eyes look fabulous!!!
I was loving that foundation at the time 💕💕☺😀
Pat McGrath just restocked the Platinum Bronze six-shade palette. $32.50 with free shipping. Now would be a great time to try an incredible shadow formula!
I think it’s funny that what could save a look with the Natasha demons pallet would be one of the elf bite sued neutrals. 😂
I regret the james charles palette...I got caught up in the hype
I am TOTALLY with you concerning the Covergirl foundations. Noxema-ish, pink toned products that don't work on warn undertones. I'm just so thankful to find someone with my same feelings about the cost of some makeup. I have searched for affordable product channels on RUclips, and am glad to find yours! (I obviously don't mind some high end makeup.... but just not so much of it!)
Hi Mandy... I just discovered your channel and I'm really enjoying it...One of my regret purchase is from BH Cosmetics, Take Me Back to Brazil pallet. I remember liking the variety of colors but they were all kinda chalky to me... I still have it but I might pass it along to my 8yr old daughter for her to play with ... 😊
I as well loved your eye makeup. I don’t own the palette you used, but would love to see swatches to see if I can come up with a dupe even if I have to get it using many other palettes. I really like your u tube posts!!
We all have these things. I used to feel bad returning products but now I don’t. I don’t ever want to be “that lady” the serial returner so it helps me really consider what I buy now so when something doesn’t work I don’t feel bad taking it back. On the other hand if I buy a palette, and there wasn’t a formula problem it’s my bad. It’s also helped me realize that packaging only matters if it works ie: keeps stuff out and product in or keeps creams from drying out too quickly. The fanciness of the packaging is not worth my money especially if it’s not functional. I’ve gotten better at looking at the actual product itself, the colors in a palette or whatever before buying. It’s different though when the colors in the pan don’t translate onto my eyes the same way. That becomes a return. Now that’s not to say I never screw up but I have super improved! Great video, great idea and a good thing to bring out for all of us to think about! Thanks for all your awesome content!
The elf luminous putty is beautiful!
Try the elf putty (face) primer for an eye primer with a little Wet N Wild translucent powder, works great to prime the eye. I am with you on the Marc Jacobs bronzer, just wait until the concave bump breaks and you find out it is mostly hollow inside 😡
For me, it is the ABH Riviera palette!
The Warrior palette is great! Totally agree with you on the Love palette... I often kick myself when I realize I’ve made a mistake...
Have you ever thought about depotting the Magic Mini and the Safari with the regret Juvias Place palette into a custom z-palette? I feel like you can make magic with a combo of the three.
I have a lot of problems with Cover Girl products changing color on me, especially all Lip Products. Within 10 minutes, every lip products will turn very cool, no matter the color of the product or on first application. Some of the foundations have changed color on me too - turning orange, and quickly too!
Have you ever thought about trying to press your loose pigments in pans and making zpalette? Or use that moon product that makes broken powders bind together again? I kept debating on trying that hoping i would use mine more too.
I totally agree with you on the Tartlett pallet. I wanted to love that thing so much but I can't even make it work to this day. Now it's so old and faded the look just ends up muddy and ridiculous. But have I decluttered it! No. I've got the Warrior pallet and trust me, you would not regret it. That one is so perfect I think it might be one of my favorite pallets of all times. One..... because I have like 70 billion favorite pallets.....yikes. Great video Mandy and the eye look is perfect. 🌼🌸🌼
I like the CG True Matte foundation. But I have more oily skin, so by the end of the day with this foundation my skin has a more natural appearance.
Unpopular opinion but I regret picking up the Tati beauty Palette. Formula, her etc nothing against just didnt love it or the color scheme like I expected too.
I just got mine today and was a bit disappointed when I swatched the glitter shades
This makes me feel better! Glad I'm not the only one to make an impulse buy from time to time.
I have resisted the Stila glitters, even though a makeup artist used it on me for an event and it looked fantastic. I got the ND Love palette and agree it's limiting as a stand alone, but when I am in the mood for colorful, and I enjoy doing that, it's great!
I also agree with the Stila eye products. Enjoyed video & have subscribed. Thank you.
😂 I am the same way with my Apple Watch, I couldn’t understand before, but now I love it , and love closing my rings !!
You should do a full face of Marshall’s/TJ Maxx makeup 😀
I'm enjoying your reviews and demos. I agree about the smell of cover girl, and your description of it was spot on. The smell came right back to me. Haven't use cover girl since high school and that was a loooong time ago. Take care.
I'm with you i know i can use 2 or more pallets, but i tend to only use 1. I am trying to change that
I purchased the Natasha Denona tropic palette on sale because I ended up loving the safari palette (which I also purchased on sale) so much. I regret it. I knew I wasn’t nearly as drawn to it but I got caught up in the sale price.
I will only buy the Stila Glitter and Glow if I can get it at TJ Maxx and even then, since they dry out so easily, I only allow myself to own one or two. Stila Glitter and Glow, Colourpop Super Shock and loose pigment products are something I try to limit in my collection. It's so easy to accumulate but it makes no sense if it dries out so quickly or I won't use it a lot!
I don’t wear cover girl foundation anymore, but I used to in high school. I remember that smell vividly. Memories...
I adore the covergirl healthy viatilist makeup on me but one product that I can't stand is the MAC paint pot in soft ochre. I bought it cause everyone raves about it and I've tried it a few times and it's super dry on my eye. I adore the kylie cosmetics concealer for my eyeshadow primer.
I seriously regret purchasing the Tom Ford White Suede palette. My most expensive and also my smallest palette!
I love and trust your frank honestly. I appreciate you looking out for our wallets and eyelids...that stila eyeshadow, and I use the term lightly as it does NOT resemble any eye shadow I've ever used, displayed creases and bumps on my eyelids I didn't even know i had!!
Totally agree on the liquid Stila’s. Thankfully I got the mini set for only like $12.50 but I’m a stay at home mom of 3 littles...how often do I wear glitter? 🙄 How about a video on the flip side of this - products that you surprisingly love or get a love of use out of.
I have 1 Stila Shimmer & glow in the shade : La Douce which is a smoke olive green ( it’s so pretty ) but I don’t reach out for it that much because it gives a dark vibe to my looks ! I wish I just had another shade to get more use of it with my looks , with that being said, I also have 1 pixi fairy lights liquid shadow : SunRay ( yellowish silver glitter) & that was a good choice because it goes with all my looks warm or cool toned , obviously as a toppery goodness , both of these are on the last legs, I’ll get another shades (smartly) I had the shimmery one by Stila & I’ll be getting the glittery one instead ,, I’m regretting buying the Nubian 2 , douce & festival palettes by juvia’s place ! But I’m not getting rid of them because I need to use them & enjoy them , I got them when I was starting to build my makeup collection & they’re good starters tbh! But if I went back in time I won’t buy them again if that makes sense!
Oh Mandy! I love the Stila eyetoppers but I understand your reasons for the regrets with the price for the full size. I really wouldn’t mind purchasing a couple more of the mini’s though.😉
I have stila's shimmer & glow kitten and grace...they're identical 🙄. The warrior palette was my first Juvia's Place palette, the Nubian my second...they have the best sales prices too. I remember the CoverGirl foundation smell 🤣🤣🤣, the absolute worst. I always thought they ran pink, but in the 90's in HS, we didn't have many options for shade range 🤣🤣🤣
I love stila glitters but sometimes I forget to reach for them too. I got them at tj maxx- the exact same set! I really like the Tarte tartlette palette when I use it but I agree just by looking at it- it’s not my go to! I love pinks but more like the huda Beauty new nudes palette. I see what you mean if pink is too bold it can be a bad look!
I’m olive as well and I couldn’t agree more about the cover girl foundations. You’re fantastic!!
The elf eyeshadow putty primer is really good. I think you got a bad one. Mine definitely gets emollient to blend beautifully and it cancels out my discoloration on my lids. Sad that you got a jenky one.
I have 2 of the ELF PUTTY EYE PRIMER and mine both are really hard as well but I love it though. It dries very fast as well
Your eye makeup is so beautiful today! your eye makeup has really caught my eye in your last few videos. It's really pretty :)
Actually, now that you brought it to my attention, I have difficulty blending the darker, cool colors also, even with eyeshadow primer. If you have any recommendations, let me know.
Your reasons about the MJ bronzer are EXACTLY why I can't bite the bullet on buying it... The hourglass ghost palette tho -- no regrets because 6 products instead of one...
Same with the tarte palette...I bought it because Jaclyn hill did a beautiful Valentine’s Day look with it. And of course she is fairer than I am so it did not look anything like hers because my skin color is more on the medium side ugh
I don't ever buy pigments for that reason 😂 they get real messy real quick!!
I actually bought all the stila liquid shadows I own from Marshall's bc I was not about to pay $24 for each one.
Same on that cover girl foundation with olive undertones 🙋🏻♀️ it’s a shame because it looks beautiful on others
I regretted buying the Colourpop URAQT palette for the exact reasons you stated. The colors are not true to pan. Almost all of them pulled pink on me. That palette really opened my eyes to the lack of quality in the brand. I started looking at my other CP palettes with new eyes and realized that there is very little shade variety in the palettes. Many of the colors show up as the same colors on the eyes. You think you've got nine colors in a palette while you only have two or three actual colors on the eyes. I've definitely purchased my last palette from the brand.
U should mix those loose pigments in with some lotion and glam it up! Yeah, I decluttered my Stila glitters as well. Would never shell out the cash for that bronzer or any ND palette. Hard pass. That said, many other regrets. Thanks for sharing!
My elf eye primer is very dry too so I added some oil just a drop and it still dry
