This is the bravest sort of recording: no baffles and screens, no separation between the instruments and thus limited opportunities for editing out mistakes later on. All these musicians are at the top of the game of course, but still...playing together like this creates a vibe it’s difficult to get otherwise and which, given all the differences in terms of equipment and musical history, is a true tribute to Robert Johnson. Clapton’s love of this music, and his long-term immersion in it, is evident in every detail of his singing and playing. Everyone else in the room responds and contributes to the total feel. Beautiful.

Little point in commenting here, you said it all. But I'll add if Eric's only contribution to this performance were his vocals, he'd have said it all.

In general Clapton sounds remarkably like the album _Freddy King Sings_, vocally and instrumentally, because he was obsessed with that album as a teenager. Freddy King was influenced by B.B. King, who admired Lonnie Johnson, Lemon Jefferson, and T-Bone Walker. Conversation between B.B. King and John Lee Hooker, April 4, 1993: "Robert... wasn't my idol." "No, he wasn't mine, either.... I'm not a fan of his...." (Elsewhere in the same conversation, JLH: "I love that Lowell Fulson." ... BBK: "I was crazy about Lowell Fulson.")
