    • @Grimjr7
      @Grimjr7 Месяц назад +11

      I don't think the game had a lack of points of interest. I think the game isn't designed to be played like elder scrolls or fallout, but you really want to play it that way. If you're on one of the actual populated planets, there is no end to the amount of points of interest/ things to do. But when you're landing on random planets that are supposed to be completely Baron, you get upset that they're ALMOST completely Baron.
      Why aren't there points of interest on this barren planet that is supposed to be barren.
      Now if you're saying you want the game to be less immersive and more gamified then that's fine but don't act like the game was supposed to be gamified from the very beginning when you and everyone else was told multiple times and it was repeated by multiple people that most of these planets were going to be barren.

    The confusing part is they could have mixed in POIs that made sense to have spammed. UC Forward Outpost Base? copy and paste, it make perfect sense for them to have a generalist layout for it regardless of the planet for quick set up. But other locations should have been unique to make up for it.
    But with it being EVERY single one, it's just insane.
    I come back to play it in some mini waves (prepping a character for the expansion), so it's not AS bad, but the loop itself is still pretty bad.
    Getting the powers is crazy too. There's what, 3 or 4 okay powers, and the rest are just flat out trash? and every single time you have to do a "puzzle" that is not only extremely boring and sometimes glitches out on itself (spot disappearing right before you get to it over and over), but ALSO an un-skippable "cut scene" that takes forever, right into a load screen? lol

    To clarify, there aren't loading screens in New Atlantis exterior (except for the under-whatsitsname), there is a tram system that teleports you from one side to another and elevators that take you up or down and *those* have loading screens. Same with the Cyberpunk-City planet thing and it's sorta fishing/factory area. You can actually walk between all those travel points in a single continuous take.
    That's the funny part, you get a loading screen when you "fast travel" a few meters around in the same map. They just can't make it work any other way: the engine HAS to load a map if you use any exit even if it's the SAME map you're in.
    EDIT: Re: Jetpacks, the jetpacks actually increase your speed, at the cost of vertical speed, but it's a different key that is unbound and you have to manually set it. So, for all intents and purposes, it's a hidden feature for some stupid reason. Also it kinda sucks because you barely gain any altitude you pretty much use it and immediately have to touch down into the ground again. You only gain like a 25% increase of speed anyway.
    What the default jetpack jump mode does is, while it doesn't give you more speed, it saves on stamina as you can get your oxygen back while you're flying so you can go back to sprinting as soon as you touch the ground again. All this does, in the end, is annoy the heck out of me, I'd rather I could just sprint without taking breaks if I'm not in combat.

    Controversial take: the open empty planets had nothing to do with why I didn’t like Starfield. In fact, I thought it worked for it as that’s what most planets would be like. Bethesda games have always had some average-at-best gameplay and lots of walking, I just want the immersion. My problem with Starfield is that it’s trying to be two kinds of sci-fi at once, the “what-if” kind (2001: A Space Odyssey, Interstellar) and the “we’ve already explored it” kind (the expanse, Mass Effect). It has the aesthetic of proper space exploration and has sparsely populated planets that feel like you’re having a “one small step” moment, but has things like space cowboy planets and raiders literally everywhere. I’m fine with either of those experiences, but they contradict each other and it stopped me from enjoying it as either.

    • @sean_mc
      @sean_mc Месяц назад +1

      I don't negate you not liking the game but I don't agree with your assessment on what Starfield was "trying to be" tbh. There isn't a single unexplored/colonised planet in the game to give the "one small step" discovery element - every one of them has had human contact and there are bases on them all, so it's not trying to be that at all. The main quest and the artefacts in Starfield are the actual "exploration/discovery" part just like the first Mass Effect with the beacons etc.
      Admittedly I like (but don't love) the game. Starfield's actual immersion breaking problem for me was that I've already played other space games (NMS, Elite Dangerous) where I don't see a prompt and a load screen to explore another part of a planet, or getting into my ship, or landing/taking off from a planet, or even just travelling between planets. I never feel like I'm actually exploring somewhere because I'm always inherently aware of the restrictions at all times due to the frequent interruptions. It's far more disruptive than entering cities/caves/buildings etc in Fallout or TES games and at least their overworlds are large with no load screens going from one side to the other.

      @@sean_mc that was another point that killed it for me, I generally don’t have that much of an issue with loading screens but in the case of Bethesda games where travel feels more about the journey not the destination, having it broken up that many times almost entirely takes the journey aspect out of it. There’s nothing quite like making the trek on foot from one city to another in Skyrim, and Starfield just doesn’t have that

Or not being able to shoot a gun point blank next to an NPCs head without them even flinching? Enemy variety, or a reason to build a base? As it stands now, there's no incentive to build a base or craft better gear because the game can be beaten easily (on hard mode) with generic loot.

Considering that Starfield was made with intention of players starting NG+ and constantly hopping to new universe they really could have just allow people to break any quest, make everyone killable at any point, make dialogue choices that will result in hitting a roadblock...they really designed a perfect setup for that and yet they opted to handheld players during playthrough so they won't ever walk from the one and only path intended for them

    The dune buggy and the local map would be crucial improvements. Still one key issue is the repeating points of interest. Like you have space raider outposts on fucking Venus a literal hellscape of a planet environment with bbq stands and pool tables with cigarette stubs around them. If they added like at least 5 categories of POIs that are selected based on the planet stats. Also adding randomization of loot and enemies for each repeating POI would help. Environmental storytelling has usually been one of Bethesda's strengths but with SF it has become its weakness due to some ambient storytelling being repeated multiple times during each gameplay with the repeated POIs, like with the bio-lab that you will encounter at least 5 times during one gameplay.

    I want to comment on the Jet pack and speed. Yes the jet pack may not actually make you go faster (though this was tested and it did) You need to rebind the secondary key to an alternate jump keybind. Then use that to use the jet pack... doing this made the jet pack move forward instead of just up and down. Even if it doesn't actually increase your speed (which I'm 100% positive it does using it this way) The benefit is endless sprinting. When you use the jet pack you regen stamina. So you can endlessly sprint across the planet. Though if you use the Jetpack overhaul mod.... you can move so fast that you cause your game to crash because it can't load everything fast enough (classic Creation Engine),
