I have the O5 and 4 and they really are alike spec wise except for the battery and the phone charging and the tilt range. BUT, while I did not think the OM5 would be a benefit it turns out that it really is. I am physically challenged in regards bad knees, bad back, and like the OM5 I have a limited range of motion, but for someone with my issues and at the age of 79, the OM5 is allowing me to shoot in so many different ways that I am unable to do with a regular gimbal. I can reach higher, get lower all thanks to the extension and the bend angle on the extension. So you might think about adding that as a plus for the older generation who want to film like the younger generation. ❤️
This best DJI OM5 review I have seen so far. Very deep and honest. I bought OM4 a week before OM5 come out - I have no remorse anymore, OM5 is not for me. Many thanks for your work. Pozdrowienia z Warszawy.
Thanks for the very practical/ non biased review. I had decided since the OM5 came out that I would stay with my OM4. Now having seen you demonstrated that some movements are actually downgraded, sticking with the OM4 is a no-brainer.
Thank you so much, Zdenka for doing this indeed in-depth review. My LIKE is for you, your effort and your video, NOT for the DJI OM5. Since the launch, I have been watching RUclips videos on the product but uh... as I have said before, no one was able to honestly talk about the pros and cons especially truthful weaknesses. There are many new features added yet many significant ones still lacking. Worse, it is priced so much higher than the OM4 previously yet many great features on the OM4 are no more available on the OM5 like the USB port to charge your phone and more significantly, exposing the gimbal when you do the full spin. OMG. This has to be THE VIDEO anyone MUST WATCH prior to considering or purchasing the OM5. Listen to this lady. You can never go wrong.
Thanks for the video, I was planning to buy the DJI OM4 and this video has confirmed my decision, the OM5 has no advantage, just a stick that can be replaced by monopods and the like. It has little battery, the grip is worse, it has less travel, it is more expensive. All the best.
Great honest review. I have also sold my OM4 on facebook marketplace and bought the new OM5 just for the selfie stick. It is so good and we do not have to carry a tripod everywhere.
I have the OM4 and not enough of an upgrade to justify the OM5. If I considered another phone gimbal right now, it would probably be the Hohem V2. Love that AI tracking feature that can be used in any app.
Researching on DJI OM 5 from last 3 weeks and all of sudden youtube recommended this video. I really appreciate the in-depth analysis of of OM 5 for both users users. Finally I ordered the DJI om 5 for Android one as beginner. Hope developers may enable Manual Modes and many more for Android line. Peace out.
Zdenka, you are my hero! After dozens of emails back and forth with DJI support, you solved my problem with my S20FE - old app on the play store. That did it. Thanks!!
You are very welcome. It’s quite sad that I have nothing to do with DJI but I am answering questions which their technical support should do…. That shows quite a bit about the company
Thank you for all the info. Never had one & was planning to buy one. But the choices are beyond and I never like searching, because the more choices I have, the more I couldn't make up my mind so in the end, ending up with a crap one. I watched quite a few of reviews between this one, the Osmo 4 and the Zhiyun, but your comment over the improved attachment to the phone was the seller for me, thanks to your comments, I just closed the order on my OM5! Hope to use it in my next fishing trip!
The review I’ve been waiting for! I got the OM 5 a couple days ago and I definitely see the lower amount of up and down movement.. I will have to test it out and see if the selfie stick is worth losing that amount of movement.
I just watched a video talking about how most people are holding the OM5 incorrectly & that's why the range of motion is limited. instead of holding it vertically, try holding it horizontally, outward from your body. I hope this helps!
I use the OM4. It is a little bulky when folded, so I am tempted to sell it and get the OM5. Also, for those close to the ground, or over the heads clips, I have to carry a monopod, and with the OM5 i would't have to. my biggest complaint, though, is with the app: all icons are too small, and that makes it difficult to see, specially in very bright sunlight scenarios. I wish DJI made the app easier to read. As for battery performance, I never go filming for 15 hours, so I don't care they have reduced battery size, thus filming time. Thanks for the review!

Awesome in depth review! Thank you! I was looking into the OM 4 then stumbled on the 5 (which I didn’t know was just released). Thank you so much for this comparison review. It was exactly what I needed and no one else so far has gone as far into detail as you have!
Thank you for mentioning the Android app issue, you are the only one I've seen mention this. I tired using my Pixel 4A on my friends new OM5 and we had the same issue connecting the Bluetooth. I just thought my phone was not compatible, didn't know the google play app was not up to date. Thank again for this video!
I bought the OM5 for skateboarding and for travel. After watching a few reviews it seems the OM4 would have been the better choice, not only for the integrated power bank feature, but because of the better vertical angle, the OM5s angle is for real very small. Its just fine when i angle the knee at the telescope arm correctly, but in cases its not correctly set i often run out of vertical angle. have to test it on the next weekend properly, especially with the main reason for skateboarding: following the friends, im anyways not a good skater lol.

Thank you for this insightful explanation! You just saved me the trouble of buying this gimbal and having to return it. Not that it's not a good product, but as I'm planning on using lenses I may have to look someplace else. Awesome video!
I really like the included extension on this one. I have the OM4 right now and the few times I have screwed that onto a stick with a tripod base it was too unstable for my comfort. Also holding the selfie stick with the gimbal on the end gets tiring quite quickly. Since they don't seem to have done anything for android users and they have lowered the range of motion I'm not sure I am going to upgrade. And I most certainly wont until they get the correct app in the play store.
My OM 5 finally arrived and I'm happy with it. I seriously need to practice to get the best out of the gimbal, not having used on before. On my first session I managed to get the shadow of the gimbal and phone in the shot a few times.
Thank you very much for sharing. Yes that can certainly happen if you have a Sun in your back. When it comes to smart phones it is almost better to film sometimes against the sun especially if filming close-ups as it’s not gonna look so flat. Otherwise yes I have to watch out for the shadows
This is my first gimbal, I'm a drone pilot of mavic 2 zoom and 2 pro so I got this to add videos to my flying videos and have some added stabilization to the movies with the phone. As In Android phone user, I paid attention to your descriptions on it but I couldn't understand (your accent as well mine is hard) the limitations of androids.
Thank you Zdenka for this wonderful review. I am waiting for the OM 5 to be delivered to my local store but after watching your video I think the OM 4 is more suitable for me. Many thanks.
Really appreciate these reviews that include real criticisms. I bought a Hohem V2 recently. Then I saw the OM5 and panicked, thinking maybe I should return the V2. But I like being able to switch modes outside of the included app and the powerbank function (4k 60 fps drains my battery FAST) Thinking I'll stick with the Hohem. Only drawback is the limited tilt, but maybe that's not such a big deal? 🤔
This is an interesting timing to read this comment. I was trying to record myself for tutorial with dji and got frustrated over the frame.. s I reached to Hohem where I can adjust framing while it is following you… Hohem is small but great
thank you , great video. Do you ever do a step by step using the lens, with gimbal and more in depth, or previous videos you can recommend. So the 4 is still likely the winnder in most aspects
Well I just got my first gimbal-the OM5-and the new iPhone 13 Pro! Watching your reviews over the past year has helped me understand this creative tool. But I’m still a beginner. I’ll need to work on my skills with it before I can think of getting a bigger gimbal for my M50. But I am pleased that this technology is becoming more mature.
Thank you very much…. Lots of people share that they already have their new iPhone…. You all must be from USA. I preordered the very morning but not getting it until beginning of October here in Canada
Currently I'm still using DJI OM 3 for my LIVE stream vlog and for this moment I'm not going to upgrade it. Anyway I love your review about the new DJI OM 5 gimbal. Thumbs up.
Great review and comparison between OM4 and OM5. Having had my OM5 for a couple of days and having noticed the issue you highlighted with regard to the pan motor especially with relationship to smoothness of operation, I am now aware it is not just an issue I have with my unit. It is also noticeable no other reviews on RUclips picked up on this issue. I would say this would be a deal breaker for me if the OM4 had the tracking ability of the OM5. In regard to the battery life. I believe the OM5 can still be used when attached to a battery bank, so I use a Ulanzi battery stick mounted directly to the 1/4 screw on the gimbal. Allowing me to both charge the phone or the gimbal as needed and then attach to a tripod stand. My final point regarding the limits of the tilt function. This is restrictive in certain circumstances. Only other function I would like is to have an adjustable pan speed set by use of a slider rather than a three option setting. I find the slowest setting to still be to fast when wanting a very slow pan option. Once again great review.
@@ZdenkaDarula Due to what I cover from a journalist slant, which can be rather dynamic and despite having other gimbals, the game changer was the magnetic mount system which has made all the difference. Having the ability to have the phone mounted correctly in the clamp without the need to rebalance every time I remove the phone from the gimbal, means I can move quickly around a scene without leaving the phone attached to the gimbal and no setup time when I reposition. I also use the gimbal in conjunction with a stills camera mounted together and by setting a static target to track. I can move my stills camera to get a shot whilst the gimbal will remain on target so enabling me to capture video simultaneously and have some flexibility capturing stills. Finally, I use the gimbal when the phone is not attached as a camera handle for my stills camera. So if I need to record video I can quickly attach the phone and still gets still images. It will be interesting to see how other manufacturers respond. But unless they employ a similar quick detach mounting system, those which do not will add an additional inconvenience. It will be interesting to see their next offerings.
@@CSI-London thank you very much for sharing…. So far it seems like this year each manufacturer is going their own direction…. I am looking forward to comparing all 2021 gimbals together… that will be interesting
Thanks for updates, I personally wouldn't consider DJI 5 as an upgrade from DJI4 and wouldn't recommend it to pro and intermediary vidio shooters at all. I don't think Even beginners impresse using this as it is riddled with flaws. May DJI6 would address real upgrades!
I unfortunately don’t know what is compatible with your phone as I don’t have it…. Just make sure you look into maximum payload…. Otherwise any should be good
Hey, just a thought, you can get a wireless Bluetooth remote and software on your phone for onscreen controls, its what some gamers use, try this software with the native camera app so you can hold the gimbal in one hand or on a pod, then use a small wireless remote in the other hand to use the native zoom and camera functions once you set up on screen controls and program what does what with the remote..
@@ZdenkaDarula It appears that none of the gimbal apps can utilise the telephoto or mechanical zoom of the camera unlike the native camera app. Hohems remote only controls the gimbal, it also only uses digital zoom. I'm taking about controlling the phones native camera app with a remote using on screen software, while also using the gimbal, it would mean you get the best of both worlds
Thank you for the awesome review. I’m a beginner with an iPhone 13 pro max. I plan on using the om5 for video blogging during my trip to Paris (yes Disneyland too) for capturing basic touristy stuff. Hope it serves me well
That a cracking piece of kit Zdenka...........well explained and easy to follow instructions on whether to upgrade in my case probably not at the minute.........stay safe.........thanks for sharing
Hei Zdenka... I own a Osmo Mobile 3 and I bought a OM5. At the moment I can't see any advantage for OM5. You are right - the vertikal range is much higher with OsmoMobile 3 - and for me the handle is much more comfortable to hold. With Mimo-App I think there is not much what I can't do with OsmoMobile 3 in comparison to OM5. O.k. - there is an extension-rod which I don't need - to be honest...
Awesome review! Thank you I'm buying a gimbal for the first time, & I think I'll go with the OM4 . Apart from the extension not much has changed, rather they've taken away many useful features instead...
I had the OM4 never really got used to the way the Gimbal works. A simple shot low to high was like a pain to achieve. So I sold it and going to gerbtet Feyuntech G6 Max.
Your videos are so good, informative, ver well made that I press the like button first and then watch the video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. This helps us a lot who are new to this RUclips film making profession.
With stabilisation and tracking built-in most off the modern phones, does one still require a gimbal to keep the video steady? I am thinking of acquiring a Samsung S22 Ultra but I'm not sure whether I will still require a Gimbal. I believe the stabilisation on that phone is pretty good.
Great review Zdenka! It sounds as though DJI needs to be more accommodating to Android users and too, boost the power of the gimbal motors. Otherwise, it looks like a great gimbal, especially with the built-in selfie stick! Thank you!! Cheers from Alaska!!
@@Chris-Brown- unfortunately DJI has lots of limitations for Android phones in general... I would check Zhiyun Smooth 5 as it is now fully integrated with Filmic Pro
What’s wrong with that? It is better to listen to someone who’s got 16 years of experience in photography than someone who just grab their camera and I used it for one year and pretends to be a pro…… lol 😂😂
Which wireless mic is best to use with iPhone 13pro max and Om5 for outdoor travel Vloger. Main purpose noise cancellation, clear voice, and easy movement of iPhone, vertically and horizontally while using with Om5

Since they don't seem to have done anything for android users and they have lowered the range of motion I'm not sure I am going to upgrade. And I most certainly wont until they get the correct app in the play store.
Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts
Definitely helpful. I am just considering to buy a gimbal. OM 5 seems to be the best option in this price range at the moment. Thank you so much!
You are very welcome
Thanks, helped me change my purchase decision. App still missing in the Android store. Unbelievable for such a company.
You are very welcome. Yes you have to download it directly from the website
You do some really great and informative reviews, and your accent is also a great bonus. 😎.
Thank you very much for your support and kind words
Thank for for the battery life comparison ….that alone was so helpful shopping for a gimbal for me.
You are very welcome
My OM 5 finally arrived and I'm happy with it. I seriously need to practice to get the best out of the gimbal, not having used on before. On my first session I managed to get the shadow of the gimbal and phone in the shot a few times.
Thank you very much for sharing. Yes that can certainly happen if you have a Sun in your back. When it comes to smart phones it is almost better to film sometimes against the sun especially if filming close-ups as it’s not gonna look so flat. Otherwise yes I have to watch out for the shadows
Good evening David...
Limitations are no slow motion. No manual filming and only filming in 30fps
Thank you Zdenka for this wonderful review. I am waiting for the OM 5 to be delivered to my local store but after watching your video I think the OM 4 is more suitable for me. Many thanks.
Facts 💯
Yes OM4 for is more for advanced filming and OM5 is for young generation TikTok style and reels filming
Absolutely
Great video i just bought the OM 5 i saw a compatibility list and only apple supports 4k60
Yes that’s true. It is pretty much build mainly for Apple phones
Really appreciate these reviews that include real criticisms. I bought a Hohem V2 recently. Then I saw the OM5 and panicked, thinking maybe I should return the V2. But I like being able to switch modes outside of the included app and the powerbank function (4k 60 fps drains my battery FAST)
Thinking I'll stick with the Hohem. Only drawback is the limited tilt, but maybe that's not such a big deal? 🤔
This is an interesting timing to read this comment. I was trying to record myself for tutorial with dji and got frustrated over the frame.. s I reached to Hohem where I can adjust framing while it is following you… Hohem is small but great
Good video, thank you
You are very welcome
thank you , great video. Do you ever do a step by step using the lens, with gimbal and more in depth, or previous videos you can recommend. So the 4 is still likely the winnder in most aspects
Here is playlist of all videos like that ruclips.net/p/PLZPNJcTtcV-9IFdom03msUGf6cQzTqiNZ
Thumbs up.
Thank you very much for sharing
Thank you very much for sharing…. Sadly other new gimbals I introduced this year in the channel have all these problems solved
Yae now came the best review from my best teacher
Thank you very much for your support
Thank you learn alot from you watching from Philippines
You are very welcome
Atlast..video om5 and android.
Yes it is
Thanks for updates, I personally wouldn't consider DJI 5 as an upgrade from DJI4 and wouldn't recommend it to pro and intermediary vidio shooters at all. I don't think Even beginners impresse using this as it is riddled with flaws.
May DJI6 would address real upgrades!
Yes I agree… this is totally made for social media
Im always inspire with all your tutorials, love it keep it up!!
Thank you very much for your support
I have exactly the same, and thank you so much for your very imformatiive contents, I learned more of it as a new user.
You are very welcome, Best wishes
Bought a Galaxy s-22 and looking for the best phone gimbals and watching the video. what you suggest to me. I never used gimbals
It is better to get Hohem gimbal instead…. It has it all
@@ZdenkaDarula It appears that none of the gimbal apps can utilise the telephoto or mechanical zoom of the camera unlike the native camera app. Hohems remote only controls the gimbal, it also only uses digital zoom. I'm taking about controlling the phones native camera app with a remote using on screen software, while also using the gimbal, it would mean you get the best of both worlds
Really impressed with the tracking. Nice review, straight to the point. Minimal bg sounds
Thank you very much

Thank you for the awesome review. I’m a beginner with an iPhone 13 pro max. I plan on using the om5 for video blogging during my trip to Paris (yes Disneyland too) for capturing basic touristy stuff. Hope it serves me well
You are very welcome. Enjoy your trip
That a cracking piece of kit Zdenka...........well explained and easy to follow instructions on whether to upgrade in my case probably not at the minute.........stay safe.........thanks for sharing
You are very welcome
thank you for this informative video, after watching it i certainly feel more confidence to try it out.
You are very welcome
Please do updated review with iPhone 13 Pro Max…I’m on the fence of buying this thing but seeing some early mixed reviews with the newer larger phone.
I don’t hand 13 pro max… sorry… not that rich
Hei Zdenka... I own a Osmo Mobile 3 and I bought a OM5. At the moment I can't see any advantage for OM5. You are right - the vertikal range is much higher with OsmoMobile 3 - and for me the handle is much more comfortable to hold. With Mimo-App I think there is not much what I can't do with OsmoMobile 3 in comparison to OM5. O.k. - there is an extension-rod which I don't need - to be honest...
Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts
Awesome review! Thank you
I'm buying a gimbal for the first time, & I think I'll go with the OM4 . Apart from the extension not much has changed, rather they've taken away many useful features instead...
You are very welcome…. Yes they took away lots of good things
New to gimbals with my Samsung A42. Very helpful overview.
Thank you very much
I had the OM4 never really got used to the way the Gimbal works. A simple shot low to high was like a pain to achieve. So I sold it and going to gerbtet Feyuntech G6 Max.
Thank you very much for sharing… that is a great gimbal you chose
great video .. i was confused between OM4 AND OM5 .. now im sure i need to go for OM 5 :D .. THANKS TO U .. SUBBED
You are very welcome…. Enjoy
Hi... Mam thanks for making this video....
DJI mimo application not working my android phone.....
What to do now..... please suggest me 🙏🙏🙏
Delete the app and scan QR code from the box…. Don’t download old app from google play
Your videos are so good, informative, ver well made that I press the like button first and then watch the video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. This helps us a lot who are new to this RUclips film making profession.
You are very welcome and thank you very much for your support
With stabilisation and tracking built-in most off the modern phones, does one still require a gimbal to keep the video steady? I am thinking of acquiring a Samsung S22 Ultra but I'm not sure whether I will still require a Gimbal. I believe the stabilisation on that phone is pretty good.
The best would be just look at the phone first and see how you like it. Then you can make a decision if you need a gimbal or not… best wishes
I plan on keeping my OM 4 for a good while longer as I have barely used it at all since unwrapping it on Christmas morning! 🎅
That’s a great move that’s a good Gimbal as well
This video very cleared so many confusions. Thank you so much.
You are very welcome
Very informative! When you take a Clone picture, what kind of resolution do you get? I was only able to 2895 × 767, too low a resolution.
Yes it is a lower resolution
@@ZdenkaDarula I am sorry to hear that. Wondering why it cannot be better.
GREAT REVIEW !!!thank you gonna get one for my iPhone 13 pro max !!!! the camera system is a beast loving it (also it destroyed s21 ultra)
Did you destroyed the 21ultra on purpose or by accident. lol…. Now that you like iphone…
@@ZdenkaDarula 😂📱❤️
I have the om4 and just looking to use both actually
Thank you very much for sharing
Thank you so much, i liked the way you showing us how it work, and your advice is also very helpful
You are very welcome
Great review Zdenka! It sounds as though DJI needs to be more accommodating to Android users and too, boost the power of the gimbal motors. Otherwise, it looks like a great gimbal, especially with the built-in selfie stick! Thank you!! Cheers from Alaska!!
You are very welcome and many greetings to Alaska
Congratulations
Thank you
I am generally a DJI user (Osmo Action, Mini 2), but went with the Aochuan Smart XR for a smartphone gimbal.
Thank you very much for sharing. I like that gimbal too. The focus wheel is a bonus
Your video is great, but I'm disappointed from the functionality especially in Android. I expected more and better functionality for Android.
It has been always like that with Android…. Other brands offer a bit more for that type of phone. DJI has always been more gimbal for iPhone
@@ZdenkaDarula thank you for your answer!
Not using anything but dji products seem to be really good
Yes if you have iPhone
@@ZdenkaDarula No iphone, but are the others any better for android over iPhone? I'm also looking at getting a DJI RS2 for my M43 camera
@@Chris-Brown- unfortunately DJI has lots of limitations for Android phones in general... I would check Zhiyun Smooth 5 as it is now fully integrated with Filmic Pro
Good honest easy to understand review as always! Also not speaking too fast is impt🌹 Thank you so much 😘
You are very welcome….. I tried to slow down this time
I Thought USB C was Omni directional, meaning you can put power in and also get power out?
Apparently not… by paperwork
I kinda like it. :)
Great review.
Thank you very much
Excellent in-depth review of DJI OM 5. Thank you.

Which gimbal is best for android phones
Check Friday’s video coming up
An older women talking about cameras… feels unusual and weird but cool 🤣👍 subscribed
I unfortunately don’t know many microphones on the market as I don’t remove them. I reviewed however this one which I am using and I’m happy with this: ruclips.net/video/GF3AC6vcYGE/видео.html
I hope dpi will improve the issue with Pano feature bcoz its tilted and not balance when taking.
