I purchased the camera mostly for vlogging and the stabilization is awful on it. I don’t have much rolling shutter issues, but the extreme crop and wobbly videos are disappointing. Adding a lens isn’t practical as an everyday Vlog camera because it makes it too large to carry around comfortably. I wish I just got the Sony Zv-1.
PLEASE HELP!!! I used a tt artisans prime lens on the sony zv-E10, and now when I switch back to kit lens, it wont work! It wont zoom, it wont autofocus and I cant even change the focus mode cos its just STUCK at manual focus!!! Any solutions???
I don't want up be that guy, but i feel like the people complaining about the zv-e10 and its minor drawbacks are missing the fact that this is a budget camera. This camera is hands down the best bang for buck camera on the market. You simply can't expect this little powerhouse of a camera to do everything at its price point. Otherwise sony wouldn't sell any of its higher end cameras. If you think the rolling shutter issue is that serious or is that important to you and you don't want to go through the known post editing fixes, then buy a more expensive camera. The streaming and battery issues would be the same on most cameras, so i don't see why these are drawbacks to zve10. Overall, the zv-e10 is a great little beginners camera, and those looking for pro level features should be expecting to pay pro level prices for it.
@@oz5098 I thought this too when I first bought my zve10 and compared it to my samasung 23 Ultra, but quickly learned this is a highly subjective opinion and in most cases, actually isn't true. It heavily depends on your use case. If all you are going to do is take JPEGS, with no zooming, with no editing, no cropping, etc with the latest gen flagship phone, and are going to compare it to the kit lens and post directly to social media, then maybe i hear you. However, when you take into account the plethora of lens options, mechanical zoom instead of digital zoom, the better color science, better and larger sensor, higher megapixels, more RAW data, more control over settings such as frame rate, iso, shutter speed, from a creators standpoint, the choice is pretty obvious that Sony wins, and easily. Is why SOOO many creators are using dedicated cameras, even the ZVe10, as their primary device. One cant deny how far phone cameras have come over the past few years, but those who have a dedicated camera will quickly see the benefits of having a dedicated device designed for the purpose. Final point is that my original post heavily referenced that this is an ENTRY LEVEL camera. Though I stand by the fact that the ZVe10 easily outshines a phone, it was designed for people on a budget to break into photography not the end all beat all camera, otherwise, why would sony make higher end cameras at all. The critiques in the video I felt were trying to dog it for its drawbacks and lack of premium features that it's big brothers such as the a6400 have (Though to note it has the same sensor). Not everyone can afford to drop 1500, 2500, 3500 on a camera, so Sony packed one hell of a little camera into its $700 price point. There are some scenarios in my 2.5 years with the camera that yes, I have been slightly hindered by the drawbacks, but it has only made me a better photographer as I have learned to overcome them or use them in creative ways. I am sure that I will upgrade to the a6700 or whatever top sony APSC cam is out at somepoint, but I love my ZVe10, all that it has taught me, and all the amazing photos/videos that I have gotten with it.
Great video! I especially find the camera shake and shutter wobble very strange, as it's marketed towards vloggers. I use it for more controlled shoots, and it's been a fantastic camera for introducing me to the world of expensive photography and videography gear. 😅 I didn't know about dummy batteries... @@tudor4457 I wouldn't quite know. I got to the conclusion that this would be my pick for a 4k hybrid camera under 1k dollars. I do now know that lenses makes such an important difference though. The difference in quality from my first photos and videos with this camera compared to now comes from 1. Learning manual mode, and 2. Upgrading lenses. The camera itself really should be good enough if one doesn't know what they're looking for, but wants capable equipment for importantly work.
Came into the comments to say this. I've only just got this camera and one of the first things I did after charging the battery was use it still plugged in.
I have a few gripes with the ZV-E10. One is when it powers down it doesn't resume with the previous focal length settings and it's really annoying when you've set your frame and then it powers down to save on battery! Secondly, the viewfinder automatically flips the image on certain viewing angles - it should be a user option and not automatic. So frustrating!
ZV-E10 was my best Purchase of 2021. The camera works excellent with my Sigma 30mm 1.4 but to my surprise the Webcam feature is the most helpful for me for creating gaming content. Its soo easy to set up with obs. Never goes out of battery for long hours. love it.
Yeah I had a similar experience, that lens is god-tier. The bokeh is buttery AF and it makes everything look like a Hollywood. I added a GlimmerGlass 1 filter and it gives my footage an incredibly soft, organic look that you will never get on any other device.

This is a VERY complimentary list of problems! All very minor! For USB streaming, anyone who can afford an E10 can afford an HDMI to USB adapter. The rolling shutter is not problematic for amateur video, and professional videographers can afford a better camera. The stabilization is not an issue because no camera stabilization is sufficient; all need a gimbal for good quality, and again: if you can afford an E10, you can afford a $50-100 gimbal. For me, I don't like how the A6000/E10 series have weak 1080p video quality according to DPReview, and I don't like how it has the old Sony camera software interface, and for that matter, I don't like how the E10 is still a A5000/A6000 with old tech. BUT, it's still the sweet spot, and there's nothing better to recommend for the price.
Do you use a micro USB to HDMI cable to hook up the monitor? I just got a monitor and I need to buy the right cable. Just figured I’d see if you had a recommendation. Thanks!
my biggest reason not to get it is the lack of awb-lock. awb-lock was introduced in 2019 i think (on sony, i mean) on a6400. i think every sony since then has it, except zv-e10, if im not mistaken. zv-e10 does not have awb-lock, they just left it out. i have a6400 and awb-lock is very convenient to set wb silently and quickly in videos. you just cant do it on zv-e10. i dont know if they forgot it or left it out intentionally, but for me its a real turn off, now that i know what having it is like.
AWB-lock is a pro cinema feature, although it is sorely missed on this camera, I hate it when the AWB and exposure fly around like crazy after I start filming
I’m new to cameras, but I found shooting in 1080 dramatically reduced the rolling shutter problem. I guess that’s not a huge sacrifice for shooting more higher action stuff.
I love my ZVE-10. I will say that I’d rather have the cables block the screen because if it was on the other side (where the grip is) than if I plugged in my external microphone it would be in the way of my hands. Other than that, great vid 👍
A good point, I guess for me it would be ideal for the supplied cable to be designed not cover the screen, or for the screen to flip up similar to the Sony a5100. Thanks for watching 🙏
NEED HELP! Why is the recording not recorded via my external microphone? The right cable is connected, the microphone also works, but it doesn't work on the zve10
Is there a camera that is very simmilar to this that has a slightly better time dealing with rolling shutter? I want to get the e10 but seeing as i am a complete novice im not sure i feel competent enough to resolve that issue with software. Is there a camera around the same price and specs that deals with that issue slightly better?
Great question. Did you come up with something? I need to look into this for my grandson. On my first attempt, I will set it to an Aperture priority of f/4. Continuous AF. I may turn off Face Detect, so it doesn't jump from face to face as soon as they turn their face. Would the Center focus be too narrow and Wide catch too much? Let's set it to a Medium Flexible Spot. Next is the tricky stuff. I will max out the AF Transition Speed since the subject in focus will be running. And, I will slow down the AF Subj. Shift Sens. hoping to slow down the change of focus between players (breathing). As long as I keep the ball handler within the Medium Flexible Spot, I should be good.
I'm facing an odd issue right now with my sony, the video shot on it in 4k isn't playable by vlc and Premiere Pro also does not recognize it. yet when I transferred it back to the memory card and inserted it back the camera played it with no problem. never seen such a problem. not quite sure what to do. currently transferring to my phone via wifi to see if my phone would play it. its 20 GB going to be a minute.
I sorted out the battery life issue by carrying a 20,000 mAH USB-C battery pack with me, although that further exacerbates the "USB cables go in front of the touch screen" issue. The reality is, the ZV E10 is a cheap camera that was created to meet a certain price point. I'm very happy with mine but I wish it had IBIS, I think that is one of the most annoying things. It means I'm limited largely to tripod shots and the like. But that's OK, because the type of filming I do is tripod based. If you hook it up to a 4K Elgato the quality of the video feed when coupled with a fast portrait lens is god-tier. But you have to know how to make it work, it's a fussy camera. Will be upgrading to an Alpha 7C probably with IBIS and built-in 4K USB streaming.
Just came back from a trip and noticed that only the first few clips I recorded were in 4k, all the rest of the clips were recorded in 1080p despite me wanting it to be in 4k. Anyone know what I can do to prevent it from dropping down to 1080p? I record with the default "smart/intelligent" setting, I wonder if that's what's causing my issue.

I shoot product photos and not until about a month in and thousands of photos I came across a problem where hundreds of my photos were named the same and I had to manually rename them. The issue was that there were 2 downstream processes so I had to get into multiple files to find the rows, correct them there, plus rename the physical files on two systems. Never I repeat never I encountered such an issue with a camera before. Sure, I can rename the file name prefix, but to ever assign the same file name to another picture ever is downright silly.
I never wobble my ZV-E10 around so quickly as to get rolling shutter issues - does anyone do so in their everyday use? Don't forget the Sony lenses with OSS - the Viltrox and Sigma lenses do not have it (despite being excellent lenses!) so active steady shot (which crops) is needed if one isn't using a gimbal, or perhaps trained in ballet... I have loads of fun with mine, although looking forward to Spring coming around and being a bit warmer out with it!
