I think SB10 is on a level with Arran 10. Arran has a shorter finish (to me) which could lead to me guessing in a blind-taste-off that the SB10 was older. Not much older, but just a tad richer. But for the price & availability? Arran was a double OSWA winner for a reason!
Yep, all day long. Don't get me wrong, I like SB (though only had 10,15 and 18 so far) but I much prefer my Kilkerrans. Longrow is great stuff though, and I also love the Campbeltown Loch I've got (which I reckon has a lot of KK in it).
@@JeffWhisky I'm just an old chap, happy to find a decent bottle with the help from the younsters as you an Shane from whiskylock. Two different approaches. I love them both! Cheers man!
@@JeffWhisky Tried too little, so doesn't make sense. I just do not liked the bourbons I've tried, so I stopped trying. Turning away more and more from sherried whiskies and this year I only bought older stuff via auction. So I better leave it to others..
Personal preference is always an interesting thing to see. I cover a heap of things that I recognise are high quality but just don't do it for me. Cheers for including me dude!
I completely agree, whisky is such a personal thing and great hearing and seeing what people think. Thanks for getting involved in such a short time! Cheers
Lovely list. 1st time i see Springbank going so low. But i like it, cause i can't try it and i always wanted to get it 😅 now i will think ah i dont lose a thing
An interesting video Jeff and a good visual effect. Also, good to see what other whisky tubers tiers were. There are 19 bottles that I haven't tried. A lot of these are not currently available in New Zealand. I had Port Charlotte 10, Compass Box Orchard House, and Kilkerran 12 in Tier A. I also rank Wild Turkey 101 higher than Rare Breed. The bottle of Rare Breed I have just isn't as good as what I expected, especially when you factor in the extra cost.
Thanks @SimonneNZ! I was planning on getting more folk involved but I ran out of time when editing it! The Tier is public and a few people have submitted their views which you can view. Glad you agree with Wild Turkey 101, I think I would rather replace my 101 instead of buying the rare breed. Cheers and great to have you here!
Good video Jeff, interesting. Many malts are cheaper here in Germany than in the uk but Ledaig 18 is way too expensive here €130+. Tried it a few times and it is very good but not buying a whole bottle.😞. Slàinte Jeff.
Great visual review Jeff enjoyable watch. It's all very subjective, but its hard not to be influenced by the crowd & experienced barflies and reviewers who tell you what is good/bad. Good to see your thoughts but You've got to dream bigger chap you owe it to yourself, you can do better than Cutty Sark as your dream whisky surely! Happy to send you a sample of blue spot 👍
Very true. It is very easy to find yourself in a bit of an echo chamber even if it is well meaning. I am a man with low expectations, you mean there is more out their than Cutty Sark Prohibition? 😂. May have to take you up on the blue spot so I can tick another one off, are you a fan of it?
@JeffWhisky I think blue spot is pretty good, yellow is better imo. I'm not far from you Jeff I'm only in Weston so could meet you in Taunton when you want that sample 👍
Added my ranking to the tierlist. As you can see don't try bourbon at all, just haven't been blown away by any yet. From the not tried the only ones that I'm eager to try are the Blue Spot and the Bunnahabhain but they're also in the higher price range/harder to get. Also goes for some others on that not tried list.
Great seeing your list added, some interesting and valid choices! For me I was more into budget bourbon and Irish before Scotch firmly took me in it's grasp. In the UK Wild Turkey 101 is certainly worth trying for the price. I think the Bunnahabhain could be a winner for you, how do you find the standard 12yo? Cheers
@@JeffWhisky As for the standard bunna, I remember liking it but that was near the start of the journey. Yes the 101 is also on the 'to try' list. Not really fond of getting a full bottle of it before that unless there'll be a good offer during the coming month.
I am surprised how many people seem to agree regarding Springbank not being all that. Next time I will make a row for "God level whisky beginning with a B". Cheers Neil!
@@JeffWhisky so far it was 20 June 2023. Full-bodied, round, not aggressively young. Definitely worth the 35 Euros. The September bottle is still unopened.

Ardnamurchan is always a mystery to me. I’ve had one bottle and it was on the whole awful. At most 2 decent drams somewhere halfway down the bottle but otherwise hot, spirity and really unpleasant. Perhaps just unlucky but I’m really loathe to buy it again. Other than that good ranking there Jeff.

After having had all batches of 2022 and 2023: Campbeltown Loch is a different whisky with every batch. Would therefore be my tier A, B and C....
What batch has been your favourite? I have seen a massive colour difference in photos of different batches. Cheers!

Decent whiksy but a fair bit of barch variations.
Yeah, I certainly have had some which impress and some pretty limp versions. Think variation is part of their charm.

Oh, you've made the Springbank 10yo a C, now I have an excellent reason to shun you.
But does two shuns make a right? Or something like that?
