I am all for Irish whiskey being more celebrated think the only issue is where do you draw the line if you include it? Would there have to be a Bourbon category or an English Whisky or Australian. I understand that Roy and Rafly are Scotch fans with their aim of others taking on their own versions for their own regions. Cheers!
@@JeffWhisky Well, there's a difference between what we expect to win, and what we're voting for, right? I think you're on target with a lot of these picks... Looking forward to the big night.
I've voted. I don't like jam so I will stick to drams. One question, under best value you mentioned Ledaig 10 as being the cheapest RRP. Is this cheaper in your market than Benromach 10? In my market the Benromach 10 is about $20 NZD cheaper than Ledaig 10. Cheers!
In the UK the Legaig 10 and Benromach 10 are about the same price with the Ledaig 10 being slightly cheaper. The Ledaig often goes on some brilliant offers! Cheers Simmonne.
I wonder if in future we could get some interesting insights on the bottles that fewer people have tried, e.g. Old Perth cask strength, if there was checkbox for "have you tried this whiskey before" beside each bottle alongside the boxes for choosing your favourite? That way the results could be analysed to show things like "X percentage of people who had actually tried this lesser known whisky ended up voting for it" alongside the overall winners data. Could shine a light on less ubiquitous bottles depending on the results. The statistician in me would love to see that.
Yeah, I can really see that providing a greater breakdown and really giving those smaller brands and bottles greater representation, though I think managing the data is already a bit of a nightmare. I would also love to see a geographic breakdown of what areas of the world vote for what, but like you, love the stats! Cheers for watching!
It'd make data analysis a lot harder but I agree! The OSWAs try to be a measure of the best whisky based on the public opinion and not on the major popularity vote. Currently, it's a bit of both and that really is a huge blame on the results (we can't fault Roy and Ralfy for that, but it's an annoying factor that ideally has to be corrected for in this contest).
I try do turn my stats head off as i get triggered abit by some of it. One that i had was how much bias there is for brands thay have one main bottle at each price point. E.g. fans of arran will vote for arran 10, ledaig fans will be spilt between 10 yr old and the rioja cask, loch lommond fans votes would spread rather thin across the options. I would also like to see geographic breakdowns and analysis based on the questions around how much you drink and buy etc. Thats really because at work you wouldnt ask the question if werent going use it for analysis.
Signatory was the trifecta for this year so they won the last 3 so cannot be in it this year to gives others a chance. Assuming would have been your choice? Cheers for watching!
Now I don't want to jinx it but I can't remember dropping any bottle of whisky, I even filmed a video in the garden before where I really lobbed a Starward release. There are some with looser corks which I am not going to risk though... Cheers for watching!
The nomination I find the most strange is the JD single barrel. Why was it nominated? It's a single barrel so I would expect it to be single cask and thus not widespread? So how large is that output? Totally agree maclean's nose should win best value in that category. I think the joke went over many people's heads during that awards show 😂
Yeah, I glossed over this bottle really. Think single barrel has different rules to single cask as it seems quite widely available, here in the UK I can order it for £68 on Amazon. I have tried one of their single barrels before and it was pretty solid so assume this is just an higher abv version? Either way it didn't get my vote! Cheers Tim
Hi Tim, Having tried several bottles of the JDSB I can attest that the flavor profile is remarkably consistent, and delicious. The abv does vary and you can detect subtle differences, but it is far more consistent than the ECBP which varies much more from release to release. Here in the US it is widely available and less expensive than the Elijah Craig Barrel Proof.
@@TimHoekstra I'm not a real Bourbon guy, but this is really good. Roy opened it on the V Pub Thursday and his reaction pretty much mirrored my opinion.
No, that's a misunderstanding. There are no rules for "single barrel", it is an unregulated term. In reality however, JDSBBP is exactly a single cask as understood in Scotch terms. Of course it's widely available, Jack Daniels has around 2 million barrels warehoused. They'll take a few thousand here or there to bottle individually instead of combine together. And there's your single barrel's worth. Big stores in the US will go through more than 150 or so bottles and so even in one store they may have more than one barrel, with different ABV levels and different flavor profiles available for sale.
Haha good spot, I only noticed that mistake once it was already uploaded so couldn't correct it 😕. At least the image is correct. I made a few mistakes with words as was just too excited to get it out filming late at night 😂

We are already the winners from being given a brilliant shopping list of great bottles! Have you brought any new bottles following the nominations?
Great picks! I was super happy to be involved as well this year and I can’t wait for the award ceremony! Cheers, Jeff
Cheers Noteworthy Whisky! The highlight of Whiskytube Season!

A brilliant shopping list made just for us. Who could complain? I fear that jam may become another bit of lore on this channel... cheers!

@@JeffWhisky I know. Here in Germany the status quo seems to be €10 per year is acceptable. Some brands do seem to be taking that seriously :o
