I use a DR (not self propelled) to mow an old very uneven graveyard with often hidden monuments etc. it copes much better than a regular mower and covers a lot of ground giving and even finish.
Thank you guys for this video!! We are so proud that our wheeled brushcutter FLO 7 met your requirements in terms of performance and quality. Hope to see more Blue Bird products in your next videos 😎
Good video. I first purchased a DR wheeled trimmer self propelled version, but I returned it. The reason being is that if I propell up to a tree and if I let go of the lever for self propell, and I try to pull backwards the wheels would be locked and I would rip up my grass. You should check that on the 3 of them in the video. Also, I now run Echo self propelled version, it for sure better and does not have that same DR problem. One thing about DR power and Echo is I can't adjust the string speed, like you can with a hand held trimmer, this seems like a big miss to me. Sometimes I can near flowers and I want to slowly trim the grass.
I'm so agree with James on this one! I dont see the purpose of this machine as long as i have a brushcutter. I have a Stihl 460 C from 2011 and it have been a very good brushcutter for all these years i've had it and it still runs great and it have more than enough power. Since i have a lot of steep hills on my farm that i need to cut i dont think a wheeled trimmer would be the right machine for the job and i would also prefer to have 2 stroke engine on a brushcutter since they have higher revs than a 4 stroke and therefore they cut tall grass better in my opinion. I tested a brushcutter with a 4 stroke engine one time and i felt that i just couldn't get the revs high enough to cut the grass the way i wanted it.
We use them for grasses adjacent to lakes and ponds, and in swampy areas. Not too popular here but they do exist. Also great for trimming around fence posts.
Many thanks for this review .. we leave our gardens to grow long in the summer and only cut them in Sept. We have searched high and low for an adjustable height "cutter" so that we can keep the garden for the wildlife. I historically used a Stihl Brushcutter however it always did my back in. Based on this video we bought one of the Weibangs and its just perfect for the long grass
I got one of these on hire the other day, as I want to give it a try before potentially investing into one. Within an hour of using it I put it back in the van and used my bullhorn strimmer, the strimmer was far quicker and less frustrating. But brilliant video lad's keep up the good work 👍
I’ve had an old DR and a newer Hyundai version of these and they definitely have their place in my business looking after gardens, woodlands and paddocks. As shown in your video they are great for strimming along fence lines and also for maintaining footpaths through rough areas however they do not completely replace a normal strimmer/brush cutter and they take some getting used to to figure out how to get the best out of them ie working in such a way that the head is throwing the cut material onto clear ground not throwing towards the un cut stuff as that tends to cause blocking and make more work for the machine 👍🏼
Not a bad machine they definitely have there place I owned a Dr trimmer when we used to do mowing it's was perfect for doing grave yards in-between and around the head stones 👍👌
Just catching up with your videos as I've spent the last week at a static caravan in Prestatyn, the site maintenance people there had some nice machines. I'm glad you've done this as I've never used a wheeled trimmer before, I never saw the point of one when I can use a big 52cc strimmer with a blade on. Perhaps it might be good for someone who has lower back problems where holding the weight of such a tool for long periods would be detrimental, but there's already something already for that as you say, a brush cutter mower. You mentioned DR, aren't they a branch of Toro? A local hire shop has quite a bit of DR stuff.
Hi James + Josh + The dog ( forgot his name ) Good review on these wheeled trimmers, never used one I've always use a trimmer. As always a great video Take care
As you both discovered over the course of the testing, the best way to operate one of these machines is to keep pushing forward then pulling back. Prevents it from getting clogged.
I was looking at the cobra and a few other yesterday. Thanks for making my mind up. I think you’re better off with something like a stihl fs461 strimmer. I bet I could clear quicker with a decent brush cutter, than all four of those working at the same time 😂
I'd like to see a shootout between these and a walk behind self propelled sickle bar mower , one of those with a 4' sickle bar will cut under fence lines nicely and in really thick stuff you could do a half cut after the first pass so the engine is in clean air .
Last year I bought a Cub Cadet wheeled trimmer for using in my orchard, trimming around trees. It did not work, mainly because the grass was too tall and ground too rough. Since then I’ve bought a flail mower for my tractor. I’m hoping the flail mower will knock the grass back to a point the wheeled trimmer is easier to use.
@@MachineryNation yeah hopefully. A few years ago I bought the wrong mower for my tractor, a finish mower. The side dish charge of cut grass was an obsession for me. Unfortunately the finish mower cannot handle long grass, by long it grows up to seven feet high in clumps. It took two or three passes to cut the grass and there was a tonne of cut grass and a real rough cut left behind making it too rough for the wheel trimmer. My mistake on two purchases. Hopefully I don’t make a third mistake. If all goes well it will work out as I’ll be able to use the finish mower to throw the grass cut by the flail mower onto the trees.
I have a DR XLS and I really like it. I have put it through some pretty rough stuff and use serrated chord. Is it better than a brush cutter, yes if you don't have one, no if you do. I don't have a commercial grade trimmer, so the DR is a great compromise.
tried to buy one of these disc mowers with blades round the edge my bro in law has one and there perfecto for long rough vegetation but the people who sell them AgriEuro no longer export to the UK due to Brexit they said so im trying one of these seems ok so far for my small meadow
I think wheeled trimmers could be really helpful for long fences. But for Ruhe tough jobs I prefer the AS Motor mower with the two stroke engine and for the smaller areas a good brush cutter
Imagine actually using one on a job🤔like watching people using tiny mowers to cut long grass😬🤣 had one 20 years ago and they were a waste of time then, outdated kit now with the other kit out there now. Maybe for homeowners with grounds but not a professional in my opinion. Gave it good go tho guys👍
you two didn't even think about how easier those are compared to string trimmers for your back. people like me with spinal/back issues or people in general carrying a heavy duty string trimmer takes a toll especially when you have a lot of yard or acreage to do. also, gas string trimmers spray oil and gas all over you even when well maintained along with breathing that smoke so close to your head/back area. heavy duty battery trimmers are just as heavy as petrol trimmers. i prefer the push kind along with a very light trimmer for hard to reach areas where the push can't/shouldn't get to.
I don't like that the grass piles up in front of the machines. If they scattered what they cut, they would work better. If terrain allowed, a Billy Goat or DR field and brush mower type machine with an actual blade would seem to be much better choice. Cut close to the fence with that and then go back with the brush cutter to do final cleanup.
stihl strimmer & blade would eat these jobs and be less had work than pulling them back when the wheels are turning forward, i think they are very much love or hate mostly have by looks of comments witch i agree i wouldn't want one
Why do they have nylon line? I don't see them doing anything that a brushcutter or sickle bar mower can't do better. The self propelled ones want to get to the pub, need a crawler gear to keep up chopping and clearing.
Someone lent me one of these to use the other day (cobra) and compared to a Stihl FS361. It was as much use as tits on a snake! Ended up smacking a flail mower into the worst of it.
no i dont get them either they look like hard work compared to a brush cutter lived in states for a few years every auction yard sale flea market they were ten to a penny for sale admitedley there push propeled band q specials

I agree with James, I can't see the real benefit over an actual strimmer or brushcutter to warrant purchasing one
You have a large area and don’t want the physical weight of the machine on you, then they’re great. Thanks Jordan 👍🏼

cutting the tall grasses is a lot easier if you only do half a row at a time it handles that well i like these Wheeled strimmers so far for my meadow
As you both discovered over the course of the testing, the best way to operate one of these machines is to keep pushing forward then pulling back. Prevents it from getting clogged.
Hi Guys Nice demo still not something to add to my shopping list but you showed there not as hard work as they look Thanks again

They would work well together. Flail for the big stuff and wheeled trimmer for underneath.

Too much faff! Stick with Strimmer/bushcutter. Certainly wouldn’t use on short grass, that’s what a lawnmower is for.
A very good Friday morning to you all

Great vid. Never knew these existed👌What brand headphones/boom mike do you use please? TIA
Primarily used for mowing large parcels of land with long grass.
Just bought a used Alhambra (never heard of the brand) disc cutter. Rotating disc, with four pivoting cutters.Think would soon cut that long growth.

your welcome
Hi what are the coats called! Any recommended clothing items for a days brushcutting?

Wheeled strimmersVery useful for foot path clearing which are long hard walk with strimmer they have there place but you still need a strimmer as well
i had a wheeled trimer on my farm they are rubbish good video
Think I’d stick to a strimmer or brush cutter
Could you put a weed brush on them
Aspen is a good product
Thought about getting one,but think it's not going to be as flexible as a brushcutter. Not going to buy Aspen, at £26 per five litres!
These look really awkward to use but can see them being inbetween a brushcutter and a flail mower for someone who doesn’t want to spend for the latter
Never understood these . I can only imagine them being useful on a race course or somewhere with loads of posts

You stick a steel blade on a brush cutter and you’ll fly through that. 11:48

Just take a Toro My Ride 4000 and in 5 minutes your ready🎉🙏🏅
Looks like a strimming event for the para Olympic Games
They don't look to be as efficient as the cheapest Pro-Plus Grass strimmer. When mowing tall stubborn weeds.

yazzo was the best

They messed up
Should of had one using the machine and one using a strimmer
Strimmer would win every time
Brushcutter is still better
wat no billygoat
I watched to 5 mins.... If you have high weeds or grass you can't beat a flail mower. If it's less get a good strimmer. I can't see a place for these
Pointless machines. There is a reason they are always at yard sales.
wtf no DR
We mention about DR near the beginning of the video 👍🏼
These Trimmers are BS you Need a AS 63 from AS Motor!
