I absolutely love the Geffen era of John Hiatt all of a sudden, riding with the king and warming up to the ice age are fantastic and so very underrated and there are some wonderful music to discover in these long forgotten albums that definitely deserve a Listen
[John Hiatt] Laugh everyone at the clown He's the best one in town, Ummm ummm [Elvis Costello] Ride on his merry-go-round Spinning faster than sound Uuuuh huh Uuuuh huh [John Hiatt] Laugh as the funny man cries Though his makeup is smeared Uuuuh huuuh [Elvis Costello] Laugh at his comical tears As he thinks of the years Uuuuh huh Uuuuh huh [John Hiatt & Elvis Costello] Livin' just a little Laughing just a little Ain't easy, Uuuuuh huuuuh Livin' just a little Laughing just a little Ain't easy [Elvis Costello] Laugh everyone at the fool With his heart in his hand Uuuuh huuuh [John Hiatt] Mmmmm, he can't quite understand That he's less than a man Uuuuh huuuh Uuuuh huuuh [Elvis Costello] Lost somewhere deep in his shell There's an ember of pride Uuuuh huuuh [John Hiatt & Elvis Costello] Watch how he tries hard to hide That he's dying inside Uuuuh huuuh Uuuuh huuuh [John Hiatt & Elvis Costello] Livin' just a little Laughing just a little Ain't easy, Uuuuuh huuuuh Livin' just a little Laughing just a little Ain't easy Livin' just a little Laughing just a little Ain't easy, Uuuuuh huuuuh Livin' just a little Laughing just a little Ain't easy
My only real quibble is the out of the blue guitar solo. If not for that, it's sort of a funk gospel version of the song. Nothing wrong with a new treatment on a cover.

This song was my introduction to John Hiatt and I've loved him ever since. Such a massively talented songwriter and singer. ☺
THIS IS A COVER N THE BEST SONG FROM THAT ALBUM IMO
This song is a cover. It was recorded by the Spinners in 1974.
Love his work
.....GREAT cover - takes a LOT to match Phillip & Bobby.....one of the BEST Thom and Linda readings I've EVER heard.....
Have been searching for this 30 years. Thanks for posting. Viva Elvis!
That is my favorite song. I love it. :-)
The Best Song Ever! Wish More Peaple New It!!!
and geffen records drops him. 3-4 years til his next one.
Personally I think John Hiatt is kewl, great remake of The Spinners classic
and he's funny too!
This is charming but I still wish Elvis Costello was on stage with him.
[John Hiatt]
Laugh everyone at the clown
He's the best one in town, Ummm ummm
[Elvis Costello]
Ride on his merry-go-round
Spinning faster than sound
Uuuuh huh Uuuuh huh
[John Hiatt]
Laugh as the funny man cries
Though his makeup is smeared
Uuuuh huuuh
[Elvis Costello]
Laugh at his comical tears
As he thinks of the years
Uuuuh huh Uuuuh huh
[John Hiatt & Elvis Costello]
Livin' just a little
Laughing just a little
Ain't easy, Uuuuuh huuuuh
Livin' just a little
Laughing just a little
Ain't easy
[Elvis Costello]
Laugh everyone at the fool
With his heart in his hand
Uuuuh huuuh
[John Hiatt]
Mmmmm, he can't quite understand
That he's less than a man
Uuuuh huuuh Uuuuh huuuh
[Elvis Costello]
Lost somewhere deep in his shell
There's an ember of pride
Uuuuh huuuh
[John Hiatt & Elvis Costello]
Watch how he tries hard to hide
That he's dying inside
Uuuuh huuuh
Uuuuh huuuh
[John Hiatt & Elvis Costello]
Livin' just a little
Laughing just a little
Ain't easy, Uuuuuh huuuuh
Livin' just a little
Laughing just a little
Ain't easy
Livin' just a little
Laughing just a little
Ain't easy, Uuuuuh huuuuh
Livin' just a little
Laughing just a little
Ain't easy
I prefer the version the spinners.
Vevo... why do the ads stream so well, while the songs lag and buffer all over the place? Funny.........
A great song by the Spinners, but I like this one better..lots better. One of my all time favorite songs!
That girl in the blue sure is fine. I would love to live a little up in that!
It' ain't easy.
warning / hair video / please view with care
Did this really happen?
Good song ruined by typical 80's sound.
Really over produced, sounds like cocaine.

Would have been nice if the drummer got on board. Zero personality for a fun clip and a wonderful song, great performances.
