The fact that John is not a global superstar, tells you a lot about the music industry. Instead of heaping praise on a brilliant songwriter and performer who has the most unique voice....... we hear such insipid drivel and remixed rubbish on the radio. Very sad.... but to those who know good music, John is a legend.
I sang and played ":Master Of Disaster" in a local muso's jam. Several people told me they enjoyed the song and wanted to know what it was, who recorded it etc. And these were all established musos. By the way the other guy on guitar, who had never heard the song, when it was his turn to solo played it almost exactly like on the live version. Yeah, John is genius and inspirational.
I’ve been a John Hiatt fan for decades. I’ve seen him well over a dozen plus times. I even have a picture in my living room of the both of us that he was so gracious to take with me. He is truly a master wordsmith and he is a master at his craft. So very grateful that he shares his gift with all of us.
John Hiatt is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame songwriter, why can't them idiots induct him? He's such an overlooked talent and like Dave said "this guy is the real deal and has been for a long time!"
One of my favorite stories from back in the day was when I ran into John in a bar in Indy in 1979. I congratulated him on the critical reception for TWO BIT MONSTERS. He looked at me and said, "Thanks, but you can't eat ink."
This album and tune are wonderful efforts by Hiatt. He is one of the best singer-songwriters of the past 25 years. He has also experienced the words he writes and sings, and that makes all the difference.
I always blast this at about 80 mph with the cruise set. Just saw John and Lyle at the Birchmere in Alexandria,VA (500 seats) and loved it. Just the conversation alone is worth seeing those two together. Lyle Lovett is one funny guy. They put on a great live acoustic show in a small venue.
I saw Hiatt and the Combo/Ageless Beauties in Newport RI this past June. The whole show had this kind of energy. I thought it was the best show I have ever seen Hiatt do.

Nomad Jeff
The Birchmere rules. I’ve been to some really nice venues, but there’s something really special about that place.
Jealous. I've seen them both separately in smaller venues, I cannot imagine how great they would be together. Wow.
music in its highest level
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think John Hiatt is great, and I appreciate and enjoy his work very much.

Saw him a couple of years ago with this strong backing band behind this wonderful wordsmith and singer.
The guitar player is Doug Lancio, who also plays mandolin vvery well. Saw them live four times.
