Severn Ferry & Bridge 1966

  • The cine footage was taken by my father in the summer of 1966 (probably July or August) a month or so before the bridge opened. We were on holiday in Gloucestershire at the time. The footage shows the Severn King ferry. We took the ferry as foot passenger from Aust to Beachley on the Welsh side.
    This video is posted as a tribute to my father.
    Music is the River Boat Song by Ocean Colour Scene and I hope the band sees this as promoting their music!?
    Still black and white shots are courtesy of the BBC. I have a right to these as I pay my license fee!

    theres a famous photo that was used for the cover of scorseses film about bob dylan that was shot at this bridge

    Thanks a lot for your interesting film, it brings back distant memories for me, adding to my own short clip ( my contribution is labelled "Aust Ferry Severn Queen" ) taken by my Uncle who was Photographic Editor of the Echo & Western Mail.

      I think your Uncle had a better camera, especially as it was about 10 years earlier!!
