  • In the US, the steep cost of medical care means many curable diseases go untreated. Pricing expert Jean-Manuel Izaret shares a plan for making treatments for curable diseases affordable for all by switching to a subscription-like payment system (similar to the one pioneered by Netflix) that would distribute costs over time and across an entire population of subscribers.
About the TED Institute: We know that innovative ideas and fresh approaches to challenging problems can be discovered inside visionary companies around the world. I like the practicality of the solution. Instead of expecting outright philanthropy from businesses, lets find a win-win solution that helps patients, healthcare payers and drug companies. Its far more scaleable this way!

I'm surprised this is not wildly more popular. Is anything like this reaching anybody's ears who can make a difference? Is America even able to make any sort of drastic change that will not take 8 years to even discuss changing something?

That's just socialized health care. You invented a form of health care that most developed countries already have.

This has nothing to do with socialized Health Care. The payers pay a fixed fee based on the number of patients with the disease not based on all people insured by the payer.
