BELIZE IS MY FAVE. Jeff Wright has NEVA played with a role and he slayed this one. So satisfying to see this read. Louis is so annoying but Belize always brings it right back. SUCH A SCENE!
And 2021, nearing 2022 (it's November now), sadly. People being so goddamn selfish. Can't be bothered now to get a vaccine when, last year, we were all hoping and praying for some sort of prevention and/or cure. The ingratitude and selfishness is beyond words.
He was writing during and about another pandemic, the AIDS crisis, and now is speaking to the COVID pandemic. Strange, sad, and fitting how certain things about humans never change. In the face of frightening times, they'll look everywhere except into a mirror, and the onew who do are branded as irrational, over-reacting artists.
In his way I believe Belize cares a lot about Louis - that's why he takes the time to tell him just what he thinks of him and lets him know how low he's sunk, because Belize is not the type who'd bother telling people he doesn't care anything about how he feels.
What a fine scene! I didn't know Jeffrey Wright had done this. Unfortunately before HBO went global. Otherwise this series would've gotten worldwide attention and Wright would have had a different status as an actor.
You misquote. The line is: “He set the word ‘free’ to a note so high, nobody could reach it.” Clear, unambiguous allusion to .”...and the land of the FREE...” where “free” is the climax, the highest note of the song.

Jeffrey Wright is a goddamn national treasure.

His scenes with Al Pacino open new dimensions.
This is so fitting for America in 2020 as well.

And NOW...2024...
WOw!!! Jeffrey Wright is amazing!!!! He is such a great actor. He knocked me out.
This role made me fall in love with him..."American Fiction" is also amazing!
Had to rewatch this today. This is exactly where we are now.
Jeffrey Wright is the BEST!!!
And here we are. Tony Kushner said it long before this pandemic.

That's the vibe I get. If he genuinely didn't care, he wouldn't bother.
This is incredibly fitting today as we get news of Roe.
sweetie's GOT a man. UPTOWN, hunny

Maybe they should re release this series on HBO Max.
@@michaelwilliamybarra2409 um it’s on there. It’s been available on their platforms as long as they’re had apps and on demand.

I try to to write this speak in the comments but the RUclips algorithm would not allow it
I'm a straight white male, and this scene punches me in the chest like almost nothing else in my life.
That "freedom so high" line has always bugged me. What version is he talking about? Does he mean the soprano line? Feels really forced.
