Beautiful images, and mistakes made are always lessons learned with anything in life. I’ve just left my job of 13 years with the NHS, off to try something new, and my fantastic colleagues gifted me the thing I asked for. Your print of the lion and the lamb. Said I wouldn’t cry, I cried. The most stunning of pictures and a level of photography I can only dream of achieving. That beautiful image will remind me of so many happy memories with my work family as well as being just gorgeous to own and have on the wall in my home
Brilliant Deborah, that means a lot and thanks so much for your support of my work 🙏🏼
I didn't know Red Squirrels could drive.. :)
😂
Absolutely! You can't get better if you don't get outside! 📸🥾
My piccys are the absolute Worst but with these tips I'll he signing that dotted line alllll the way to good piccysville thanks mate!
😂
10,000 hours to master a skill. You are just another mentor who has reiterated that you need to shoot EVERY day. Get the clicks in. But Henry, I'd be quite happy to be at your level some day. It definitely helped to hear that you still make mistakes too. I'm convinced that the pros just go out and come home with bangers every single time.
Never a truer word spoken, lots of time, lots of effort, no shortcuts to the holy grail, and to be honest that’s probably one of the big reasons why I enjoy photography, it’s got longevity ! In saying that I’ll only rest when I get as good as Sebastio Salgado, so, no rest for me then 😁.
Great job Henry, now lets get back to that blue van improving 😁
Right on! Same true with learning to use equipment competently. You don’t become proficient with gear by watching videos, only by using in the field. Especially setting up in the dark.
Love this Henry. This is the REAL world of landscape photography. We can never get the dramatic light all of the time, but it takes a true artist to make the best of the conditions that are presented to you. Great work from you yet again, and a very important message. Cheers!
Thanks Nick 🙏🏼
Mr Wainwright was right, but this is English weather we are dealing with.
Not a total loss, it’s all about getting out there and having a go.
Congratulations on the 40th assent completed Henry.
Stay safe 🇦🇺 40/214
The pano and the photo with the rocky out-cropping in the foreground both worked out quite well; good lesson - if you don't make the effort, you don't get the reward!
My husband and I always look forward to Thursday Evening we watch your videos after dinner. We have learned a lot from you.
Time x effort = rewards. True no matter what you do. Enjoy your blogs Henry, always very up-beat. I also think willingness to learn from our mistakes and no be too protective.
G’day Henry from ‘down under’. As usual a great, inspiring video. I just enjoy your enthusiasm so much, it certainly makes me want to be a better photographer. You seem to be one of the real pros who concentrate more on composition, light, venue etc. rather than your gear although your comments on tripods etc. are extremely helpful in getting better shots. Also enjoy your reference to settings for your shots, this gives us all a good start point for experimentation. Can’t help but agree, three most important things needed to improve are practice, practice and last but not least, practice.. Keep up the great content…………..OUT.
Excellent video, as always, sir. I always enjoy your excursions, and your insights. You mentioned (around 5:35 in the video) people wanting everything to come immediately, to have instant gratification, and that is so spot on. Actually, I believe most people feel that instant gratification takes too long! But truly, thank you for continuing to make such great videos. I haven't been able to get out with my camera very much of late, due to health and family reasons, but your videos help to keep me connected to the feel of getting out in the field and mucking about. Thank you!
"How good do you want to be?" Profound statement that we should all repeat. Often. Thanks for sharing!
I made a major mistake on a shoot last week, drove 45 miles my camera was not in my bag from the day before where I took it out to back up the images. Everything is learned is improved by making mistakes and everything is more you put in to something, more you will get out of it. Good video and location and great images, your learning well lol
Oh my! Those last two are like looking over The Shire from The Hobbit Movie. Amazing!
WOW! Your videos never disappoint. They are always such food for thought. There is no word or concept that I wouldn't share. Effort, consistency, joy, patience and tons of mistakes. A continuous improvement. Constant growth and satisfaction. Photography is a never-ending journey through a rough road. And what about your legendary enthusiasm? Thank you. Thank you indeed. You've just made my day
Love the humility, man. Great advice.
Mistakes is how I learn. Mistake’s channels my thought process. It’s how my mind has always worked, and as you have said putting the time in is the way, not a quick process. I, like you have gradually evolved my post processing in Lightroom and slowly. Really like your thoughts.
You make a very good observation here, you improve by reflecting on what you have done much of the time and not just watching more and more videos or books. Mind you I can make a mean camper van now 🤣 Keep it up Henry, we all need this grounding every now and again
I think I read a Wainwright comment somewhere about some lower fells offering the best views of the bigger ones. This set of pictures seems to confirm that view. One point I would add to your thoughts on this topic, is that no matter how much work you put in improvement only happens if you Review what you have done and identify Changes you will apply to get better results. DO-REVIEW-APPLY is a well established model for continuous improvement. Many of us use it without knowing about it but is most effective when it is a conscious process.
Beautiful results at the end there. One suggestion: Show your settings. Thanks for sharing.
Nice to know that you are pretty comfy with your "photography, as a photographer, with your photographs." 😄
Did that exact hike last year, all courtesy of your inspiration! Would do it again in a heartbeat, Low Fell is a wonderful place. Awesome skies in those photos.
The pano with both lakes is awesome! I’ve been serious about my photography for the past 5 years! I just published a 216 page coffee table book with 550 images! It’s the Best and most creative thing I’ve done in my 72 years on this planet! Thanks for all your inspiration! I give RUclipsrs most of the credit for the Joy I get from my photography! And you are right! Getting out and shooting is the key. I made over 75,000 images and culled the keepers down to 550!
I really admire your effort I have to admit the weather often puts me of you are inspiration
Another corker Henry! Sets me up for the day, with a spring in my step and a smile on my face. Happy days!
Glorious views! Stunning photos! Contagious enthusiasm! It’s why I love your channel.
Thank you for a great video Henry and I love your enthusiasm. Sometimes the best shots comes when you did not want to go out with the camera.
Hi. Great stuff as always. Being an enthusiastic amateur I take loads of awful shots but very occasionally I manage one that is quite pleasing. Not exactly professional standard shots but better than my 'normal'. These better shots I save together so when 1000 lousy ones come out of the camera I can look back and say to myself 'well I can do it'. And so onwards. Anyway, love your dedication and enthusiasm and of course your superb photos.
Another cracking video Henry! Beautiful images as always 💙
Most of my best landscape images are because of three things - Planning, Patience, and Persistence. I am sure that this visit to Low Fell will not be your last, and now you've been there you have an idea of the lay of the land, how long it takes to get there etc etc. Good to see you back out on the hills. I'm up in the Wastwater area at the beginning of April and really looking forward to it.
another great video and true words cant wait for the next 1
Another great video and more stunning pictures. I’d love to see some of ur mistakes sure I’d think they were still amazing
Henry! As awful as the wind & atmosphere seemed, those shots were absolutely stunning...all of them. You did the absolute best with what you were given. You captured the vista, the moodiness, and the reality. I'd be proud to have them hanging on my wall. Thanks for delivering the joy of photography once again.
Thanks as always Tim!
Very beautiful picture's
Spot on Henry! Great shots as well, it's the sky that makes them work for me. I know what you mean about being disciplined to get up and out early, it's always worth it. This morning I failed miserably, and now I'm annoyed with myself. I planned an early morning shoot of a windmill close to where I live, hoping for some early morning mist. I woke up and went instantly back to sleep. Woke up again just before sunrise, and cursed because the conditions were perfect, a lovely mist, the moon, and the pre sunrise glow. Aagh!!
I Started photography about a year ago and your vids are inspiring. Thanks 🙏
bro why are you so witty and sarcastic 😂😂😂😂😂 i enjoy your video and i learn alot ☺❤
What a top bloke you are Henry..I love watching your videos..👍
Your honesty in the process is so appreciated. Thank you for putting it out there that it's not always sunshine and unicorns; it's mud and rain and cold hands and runny noses. And from all that you produce such beautiful photographs. Thank you for inspiring me to see potential in the questionable conditions.
0:12 Permitting red squirrels to drive was a terrible idea! They just will not observe posted speed limits. (But excellent lesson and images, nonetheless!)
That is why they are required to drive slowly!
haha first thing i saw and missed the full stop
Excellent point about people being impatient or wanting a 'quick fix' whenever things aren't going well or when people are frustrated. I think it is a symptom of our society in general that we are used to having a lot of things instantaneously and just are too impatient. Nothing will ever replace hard work and determination. Something I'm always afraid is am I shooting the same thing over and over again and is it getting to me a little bit? But then at the end of the day, I can't worry about what people think. My only concern is that I'm improving my skills each time I go out with the camera.
Very inspiring as usual. Sometimes its when you really have to force yourself to get out that the magic happens! Loving the van conversion too as I recently did the same in my transporter. The great thing about a van is there is no limit of the amount of gear to throw in, it becomes shelter in a storm, a homely space to return to. There is no need to rush about, so relaxing, I am sure it all helps creatively. Hope to meet you on the road sometime if you ever visit the Isle of Mull!
Beautiful Henry as you say make the effort to go somewhere where you can get the best possible images.. I had a busy day at work.. Lucky I live above the shop I work at.. So no traveling.. Had a quick coffee and during the day I saw amazing fluffy clouds on a work trip.. And thought I would return to that erea and ended walking 40 minutes off the main road into the dunes.. Got some gorgeous pictures had to climb the biggest dune to get the lovely images I am excited to edit today..
I love getting out with my camera as often as work and family life will allow, I actually enjoy making mistakes because it's telling me that I am in a position where I KNOW it's a mistake and one that perhaps I should know better and not be making? I also find that as well as the mistakes, when you get a good capture, it's all the more pleasing and satisfying? Even though the sunset was pants, you still managed to get some good images Henry 😄
Thanks again, your enthusiasm is infectious
Hi buddy thanks for showing me this one I've got it on my list for June can you tell me wear you started from the root you took looked better than the one I found many thanks gary 👍
Remarkable images once again, Henry. Thanks for the trip out ! 👍
How do you make a living from landscape photography, besides RUclips?? and would you ever do a video on that?
Great video again! Cheers Henry. Just out of sheer interest, what WAS your day job before you went pro?
I was wondering, too...just curious. 🙂
WoW Henry you just pushed me out the door and forced me to put on my Big Boy pants and head out for some photography AND I;ve been sick for the past 3 days lol But YES its true there are days I don't want to step out the house but when I force my self to go out, When I get back in the house It feel so freaking GOOD lol
Totally agree. It’s all about the time and effort you put in and review your older images and see what you have to change. Taking inspiration from other photographers is a good thing too, but can only get you so far. It’s the experience. Great message and vlog!
Thanks for another thoroughly enjoyable and valuable clip, Henry. Your advice struck a chord with me because your words were so similar to those of the lecturers when I studied my writing course: if you want be a writer, then write! Daily if you can. I'd allow that it isn't quite so easy with landscape photography to get out and photograph a landscape if someone is a city-dweller (like me), but the effort must be made or stagnation will set in. And right now, I'm _allowing_ other things to occupy my time rather than getting out before the winter months arrive here in Oz. I must do better - my photos aren't going to take themselves.
Hi Henry, another grand day out, thanks for sharing. What characteristic common sense ... "don't be afraid to make mistakes!" ... after all it is only practise and learning from mistakes that helps us advance with any craft. Super images again, and good hints about how to push the exposure triangle to suit the conditions. It'd be interesting to see how your post processing has changed in recent times too.
Thanks for another exciting adventure video. Great "real truth" advise as well. Wish more photographers would talk about the path they have taken to get where they are. Things don't just happen.
You are so right, it is about getting out there and enjoying nature as it presents itself. Put in the time and effort. I’ve been doing that lately too by returning to my favourite beach again and again. And by doing that I have learnt so much, both on the technical side as the compositional side. Thanks for inspiring me. Your videos are a joy to watch!!
Great advice Henry, there is nothing that can beat time and effort. The last image is great, love the hills on the left.
Great video as usual henry, I can totally relate to what you are saying about motivation. He's me at 7 am on a Saturday morning watching a video on RUclips when I should be out and about with my camera. A lot of my lack of motivation comes from location. You can leave your front door and within 15-20 mins be out in the hills and fells ,I live on the east coast of Lincolnshire where it takes at least 90mins to get anywhere remotely resembling a proper hill. However I do have these videos to give me a kick up the backside.
Also I do tell myself that as far as improvement goes all I want to do is be a better photographer than thee photographer I was yesterday. Mistakes will always happen and as long as I learn from them and not get despondent I will always improve.
Keep up the excellent work mate you have a lot of people relying on you !!
Seems like I comment a lot, but I need to say, I need and appreciate this specific life advice. Henry, if pushed, I'd call myself a guitarist. But you are so key... it's all consistent. Effort, daily sacrifice of time with mistakes allowed to learn from. Holding and playing stringed instruments from age 4, my sister sent me a picture to prove it. That is 65 years ago... And! there is a Canon M50 in my bedroom. I will be making some glorious mistakes with that camera starting 9AM Friday morning! My thanks for your encouraging message! Indeed!
Again thanks for sharing your experience with great comments & enthusiasm...yes a mistake is a lesson learnt...at 78 yrs of age I have made many mistakes in life so I know what you mean... love the location and images always as you always select great locations & compositions...my biggest mistake is not starting photography earlier in life when I was able to travel more to capture the moment in time.. cheers from Australia 😀
Thanks Robert 🙏🏼
I always love the sheep thing 🙂
Great video and photos.
Super vidéo comme d'habitude, j'adore ton enthousiasme.
Quand le temps est pourri tes vidéos me remotivent. Ne change rien...!
Great video as usual, I love your enthusiasm.
When the weather is rotten your videos remotivate me. Do not change anything...!
Yes!!!! Absolutely love this video. You are bang on Henry. It takes time and hard work. I look back now at where I was and I can see the journey. I can see the improvement and I can absolutely see the editing style change. One of my biggest things where I can see improvement is in the lower number of photos taken to get a good shot. But I'm still way behind you and need to get out more, so this is a good reminder to get my butt out more and shoot. I love your videos and the honesty in them. Legend Man. Keep them coming.
Great video Henry super shots, great to see you out there in some great locations. I’ve been trying some pano’s myself recently, and starting to get some good results. Thanks for your tips and instruction to us all. Keep up the good work.
I enjoyed the video. How about displaying metadata with processed photo? Thanks.
Fabulous photos Henry, and a very good video. I think a lot of folk will be surprised to hear that you learn from your mistakes and the more you get out there the better you will be. Another enjoyable watch, thank you 👍😁
Hi Henry, I've just got to say I love your videos, love your enthusiasm and you are so good in front of camera as much as behind it. You certainly show some fantastic scenery and you both inspire me and get me thinking about my photography and more.
Thank you so much and keep it coming.
Sean.
Yep keep going don’t stop
Last shot was the one for me 👌
Even though you didn't have the perfect conditions, I really liked the pictures you took! And I couldn't agree more on mistakes, I made plenty of them (still am) and learning from them all the time. Not only with photography but with life in general I suppose!
Great video and message. Much appreciated Henry. Cheers.
Great video Henry, you are always learning in life and photography is no different!! Look forward to your next video mate.
When my son was getting into photography, I told him the way to learn how to take great photos is to take a LOT of crappy ones. That's easier now with digital than when I started with film. Back then you had to wait to see if your shots were any good.
Some great photos, Henry, as normal. I'de like to see how you go about processing your photos.
All of this evening's photos are definitely 'top drawer' Henry but, for me, the pano takes first prize.. i lost quite a bit of time as i scrutinised and enjoyed all the detail held within this lovely image. Thank you Henry, i enjoyed this episode of your adventures..
Thanks 😊
Thanks Henry for the good reminder about putting the effort in. I liked the way you talked us through the settings. Lovely images as always. It would be good if you could do a video sometime on your approach to post processing. I really look forward to your weekly videos. They are so uplifting and motivating. Bless you.
The photo’s are wel worth the trip up Henry. Thnx.
As always mate thoroughly enjoyed it, many wise words too. Top drawer
Another great honest vlog ! The pano turned out ace. !!
a touch of class again Henry, nice one, really enjoyed watching
Well done Henry. Well done.
stunning images dude, love the enthusiasm
A good honest video Henry. Very enjoyable
Enjoyed the photos! But I have a question about the sign you show at the very beginning of the video - is it only the red squirrels that need to drive slow? 🐿🐿🤣
Brilliant images! You done good!
Nice video again Henry. The panorama came out better than the video build up was suggesting! Do you come down from the fells in the dark?
Thanks! Yes, with a good headtorch
I guess on a sub consious level , i make sure i try to do things i find hard to do . In order to improve .
Stunning images, and the spiel is a life lesson for all areas of… there are no shortcuts; everything that matters takes effort to get right. Yet another great video Henry, thanks for the #Henthusiasm
Nice work as always 👏 👍 👌 how is van conversion going?
Can you make a video please where you compare old and New photographs?
Could be a good idea Jef 🙏🏼
@@HenryTurnerphoto 🙂
Cracking pictures
Great images and a truly great and thoughtful video. We all start this photographic journey but there is no fixed finishing line. There's always some way to improve and that's the real challenge. Looking forward to the next video!
Cracking images this week Henry and interesting comments at the beginning and for me personally improving my processing skills has made a huge difference to my end results probably more than improvements in actual photography but I suppose there will be fine lines at times to differentiate why improvements are made, I.e. is it improvement in the field or improvement in post.
Hi Henry. I didn`t realise red squirrels were fast drivers!! On a more serious note though, thanks for another enjoyable video with more good photos mate. :-)
Lovely pictures Henry!
Lovely images as usual Henry, you are right the only way you can improve is to put in the effort and get out there with your camera. How I wish I could devote more time to it but work has to come first, followed by family commitments and then my hobby of photography. When I do get a chance to devote time to it, it is very satisfying even if the results are often pants 😂 but every now and again I get a shot to be proud of and that makes all the failures worth it 😉 when I do fail I look for reasons why and try to put it right next time. A bit like everything in life 🤔
