    Absolutley! !here is simply no way that a *proper* dental examination and cleaning can be carried out in a conscious dog or cat

    Can't the dog be drugged with anti anxieties by a vet instead

      The answer is no unfortunately. The animal must be intubated to protect the airway during the procedure so the animal does not aspirate the water and a gag must be placed in the back of the mouth to prevent water from going into the animal's throat. They must be under general anesthesia for that. Also, strong sedatives can be just as, if not more, dangerous than inhalant anesthesia. The risk of general anesthesia for most pets is very low if you go to a reliable veterinary practice in the USA, and get bloodwork done beforehand to assess risk. I am a veterinarian.

      @@euphoricocean7099 I actually just went to a vet yesterday to schedule a dental. They actually said they use 2 drugs (don't remember the name now) to calm them down BEFORE they put the to sleep. It this normal practice? They have good reviews and do monitoring and blood tests
