Chris: I have a friend whose dad & 2 of his dad's brothers owned the Chry/Plym dealership in Lynchburg, VA when this car came out in '71. It was also common knowledge that "Mr. Norm's DODGE dealership in Chicago was making 340 6-Packs at their dealership and selling them to the public. I've got this kit on back-order from Model Roundup, too, but I'm going to build the 340 6-pack engine from the AMT Plymouth Duster, and install it on this model. Thanks, Mr. Norm ! My friend told me that several customers were disappointed that they couldn't get the 340 6-pack from Chry/Plym dealers. LOVE this model - a "must have" for Mopar freaks like me !
I was never sick and have been creating at least two model builds a week for years, non-stop. Not sure where you got the idea I was sick from, or that I wasn't making two videos every single week. Thanks
It looks great, especially for an mpc kit. But I wish they used the amt 71 duster engine bay and chassis for more detail. But the best part is I can do that myself and kit bash!
One thing I love to see with these updated re-releases is just the changes made to the engine bay on the chassis where they add in those mounting pins to make them fit nice and snug. Those 75/76 Dart chassis would (least for me) be so warped or just were complete junk that they wouldn’t fit flush with the body. Same with those old charger chassis that hadn’t changed in like 50 years until they were changed in the new Coronet kit and it made them fit right.
@@tonymadia4554 I’ve generally found better success with those chassis, they have a good application for kit-bashing with older kits to make them more detailed and accurate, especially those old Jo-Han B-bodies. I remember the final assembly being a bit annoying but I think they’re leagues better compared to the ancient dogturd charger one, and multi-part suspensions tend to look better compared to the molded in k-frame that doesn’t even have all the details its supposed to have.
I had two 1971 Demons, one was my 1st car, it was in Metallic brown. My second one was Hemi orange just like the one on the cover! I wish I still owned them! Going to have to get at least three of these! I am glad Round 2 rereleased them! I was not going to pay eBay prices!
Glad to see this back out in the market. Round2 has been doing an excellent job with their releases and I hope they have enough interest to keep producing new and vintage kits 👍
Super. Only 1 minor "Grouse" is it has no headers for the drag car but I'll take it & be damn happy 'bout it. The "Up Grade" is way fab. 😉👍👍. Many thanx Boss.
Glad to see they made corrections to the body and a way better decal sheet than the original,i think that kitbashing the Amt 71'Duster chassis and engine will result in an even nicer build, thanks for the review.
I suppose the rear axle is better than a completely molded in piece like an old promo. But the AMT 1990s issue of the Duster has a WAY better chassis. You say this is all new tool, but that chassis is typical of 1970 MPC. I would allow that the glass is probably new tool, and some other stuff cleaned up. But the overall tool is almost certainly the 1970 issue of this kit. Still glad that they have brought this kit out of the depths of the vault of old tools. Good chance I'll buy one.
That was looked into and it was determined that it wasn't feasible, so they cloned the original kit's tooling with some corrections made to the body. The Duster kit does have more detail, but the side window openings are highly inaccurate. The body in this kit is much better.
I betcha if you took the duster kit and bashed it with demon kit you would have better chassis with more detail and I am thinking it just might fit and have the exact wheelbase to
If I'm not mistaken, the main reason R2 opted to not do a Demon kit based on the '71 Duster was that they determined the tooling mods necessary for them to do so would have made it impossible for them to release the kit as a Duster again.
Great job on all your builds. I have a question for you. If you use a matte craft paint on an auto model, can you then use a gloss coat or Future floor polish to create a shine?
Yes, but it will take a lot of coats to make it really shine. You're best to cover it with a gloss spray, and then finalize it after decals with floor polish.
T'was about time! lol I was really starting to doubt it would be released, even if they had prototype going around some show! That said, I did order mine yesterday. Had a bunch of things to buy at my "local" hobbyshop, so I took my chance at the pre-order. Will most likely be end up Butterscotch.
Hey Chris, thanks for doing all those videos. I’m waiting to see when you’re going to build this. I have mine on pre-order so I don’t know when mine is gonna come in.
Probably the best model they have retooled, next to the 67 Impala 4 door hardtop! I'm glad there are no holes in the hood or trunk, so you can build a "standard" Demon that would have a 318 or even a Slant Six (like the real car I owned back in the 1980s!) under the hood...
Looks like a cool kit to me. I mostly build factory stock, so the missing drag parts wouldn't bother me, I plan to get at least one. Did anyone besides me think about Al Bundy when watching the video 😂?
Back in the 70s 80s, we could get all the mpc/amt and revell/monogram US kits over here across the pond in the UK, now they seem like rocking horse sh#t, very hard to get hold of any quite expensive when we do...😢
My first car was a 1971 Dodge Demon, but a boring one! No spoilers or hood scoops, 225 slant 6, bench seats, 3-on-the-tree, standard steering wheel. So even if I wanted to re-create it, I couldn't. So I'm tempted to just build the Demon I should have had. What do you think?
The inner finder wells look a little cheap I don’t think that Amt done the 70 duster that way if I remember right I honestly expected more detail being a modern kit
My only gripe is an important part of late 60s and 70s Mopars ARE those Rallye wheels and they just blow it here as usual. In the many Mopes I've owned Rallye wheels have never been chrome. Like original models they should be molded in plastic with the trim rings and center caps separate in chrome with option to make center cap dark or light like real car. They look cool w/o trim rings too. Wouldn't have cost Round 2 a nickel to make them accurate. Okay I'm grumpy but Ill leave you with a fun fact Easter Egg. As you know HotWheels have Easter Eggs in them all the time like great HW designer Ryu's (RIP young man) cancer Dr.s' stethoscopes are in the back window of the Porsche 911 Turbo HW that his Dr drove. If you get the 80s Dodge Van it clearly has a big ass ATV inside because you can see through the big clear sunroof, but most people miss a set of Mopar Rallye wheels tucked under the front of the ATV inside the l'il Dodge Van clear as day with detail IF you know to look. Cybertruck HW came out couple years ago with a tiny license plate that said "GIGATX" aka giga factory in Texas where the real truck is built and had the (finally) initial delivery day party today. Grumpy, out. 👀

Great kit!!!!!!!! 🔥👍
Glad to see you pulled thru your illness. Glad your back. Missed your vids.

Thanks
Thanks for the video Cris an I'll be looking forward to seeing the build
Really looking forward to this build and video.
Thank you Round 2... almost nothing to de-chrome!
Nice first look - will wait to see it built.
All stock and lime green is the way I am going to mine.
Wow,I'm buying as many as possible
A great companion to the Duster kit from a few years back
It looks great, especially for an mpc kit. But I wish they used the amt 71 duster engine bay and chassis for more detail. But the best part is I can do that myself and kit bash!
This looks like a fantastic kit! The pad-printed tires and comprehensive decal sheet look great. Can't wait to see yours, Chris.
Very nice, I like the Mopar kits. Keep up the great work and have a nice day.
Hooray! I remember when the real 1971 Demon start showing up at the dodge dealers!
My buddy had one in a metallic brown, loved that demon.
Mine has been on pre-order for a couple of weeks 3:48 now I'm looking even more forward to receiving it
Great review of this kit ...I'll have to pick one or two up / T

yep agreed fix the chassis make it all one piece i hate the roadrunner kitts and superbees they dont fit right nothing but problems for me too..
@@tonymadia4554 I’ve generally found better success with those chassis, they have a good application for kit-bashing with older kits to make them more detailed and accurate, especially those old Jo-Han B-bodies. Friend had a 71 demon 340 in that metallic brown. I had a 69 Roadrunner in blue but was always a little jealous of that demon.
Glad to see this back out in the market. Round2 has been doing an excellent job with their releases and I hope they have enough interest to keep producing new and vintage kits 👍
Can't wait for the buildup on this one
As a huge Mopar guy I am so excited for this kit to get released
Yes sir, had a 69 Roadrunner & a 72 Challenger.
Have a great build.
I had a car like that in the 80s. Loved it!
I just stumbled across this site. It’s taking me back to the first car I ever bought. I had a 71 Demon and a 71 Plymouth Duster. Loved this car!
Absolutely love this kit! Looks amazing, Round2 is killing it. Can’t wait to get one of these or more. Thanks Chris and thank you Round 2!!!!!😎👍
Super.

Its now on my list. Great video Chris, keep em coming
....i'll keep watching
Glad to see they made corrections to the body and a way better decal sheet than the original,i think that kitbashing the Amt 71'Duster chassis and engine will result in an even nicer build, thanks for the review.
looks like a nice and easy kitt too to no two peice chassis like the road r unner and the other ones im still hoping next yr for any 69 74 impalas...

wow really looking forward to this one
I'm wondering why this subject wasn't adapted from R2's excellent '71 Duster... vastly better detail, more seperate parts...;
That was looked into and it was determined that it wasn't feasible, so they cloned the original kit's tooling with some corrections made to the body. The Duster kit does have more detail, but the side window openings are highly inaccurate. The body in this kit is much better.

Poor body. It's only good for is a donor. Got 6 & planning to get more. 👍👍
@@troystahnke6441exactly, or if you want a simpler project, like a prefer, just build the Demon kit out of the box.
If I'm not mistaken, the main reason R2 opted to not do a Demon kit based on the '71 Duster was that they determined the tooling mods necessary for them to do so would have made it impossible for them to release the kit as a Duster again.
Been hoping you would be doing a review/build of this kit

Working on a newish kit right now but absolutely loved the vintage Foxy Box I built. I'd like to do more vintage cars like this! Thanks for sharing!
Look like a neat build, looking forward to which build you going to do.
It looks like a very nice kit. The features in the kit for assembly are great. Thanks for sharing.
Glad to see they fixed the wheel openings on the fenders from a Duster to a Demon
Hey Chris, thanks for doing all those videos. I’m waiting to see when you’re going to build this. I have mine on pre-order so I don’t know when mine is gonna come in.
I'm a big Mopar fan. Can't wait to get my hands on this kit. Thanks for the look Chris.😊

Nice unboxing! Definitely looking forward to seeing it built Sir!
I'm on the list at my hobby shop.
Chris. Any Chance of Doing a Unboxing Video of the AMT Touch Tone Terror kit Reissue of the old IMC Kit ?? Thank you Walt
I want one so bad.
Do you think that you will do the new Warlock kit? I'm really hyped for it!
that blue one is nice looking
Looks like a cool kit to me. I mostly build factory stock, so the missing drag parts wouldn't bother me, I plan to get at least one. Did anyone besides me think about Al Bundy when watching the video 😂?
will kit bash mine but with the younger gen and first time builders this is a great model😁🤩😎

Molded in driveshaft, pfft. The body looks amazing.
I'll take a half dozen please... 😊😇
I hope this means that a Plymouth Duster is on the way - I want to do Al Bundy's car!
The inner finder wells look a little cheap I don’t think that Amt done the 70 duster that way if I remember right I honestly expected more detail being a modern kit
a little strange - there are 5 wheel backs
that one piece rear and side windows is nice

Pro Stock version coming soon?
Gotta get a couple ASA0

Mine is going Yellow drag!
Really dont care much for dodges but im tired of building mostly pro stocks and pro streets. Figured id do some good ole muscle cars
No headers
Wah

Not worth the money
Way cheaper than the $2-500 for an original with improper wheel openings.
Awesome kit. cant wait to get one or two. wish they would've included optional bumper guards on the chrome tree.
