  • We Just Found The PERFECT VANCOUVER ISLAND CAMPSITE!!!!
After not exploring or camping over the last 2 weeks, due to a forest fire in the area, it is finally time to hit the gravel and go camping again here on Vancouver Island .
Join us today as we set out to find a lake that has eluded us two previous times and hopefully find a campsite for the night.

Hard to find spots these days..Living on the island myself for many yrs..My old spots have been discovered & always full now..I don't even attemp to try now..Further out I go..These days..Good for you both..Don't reveal the area..Keep the location to yourself.

Thank you so much for watching 👍.
We have been noticing the same, especially around this time of year. We do a lot of planning research as to where we can go. As mentioned in the video, this was our third attempt to get there.
We will always keep these kind of spots to ourselves. They are accessible to everyone, but it takes some time and effort to figure it out.
      All the best,
      Michelle & Holger

Yes it's high time to keep the special spots hidden.
RUclips has ruined as many special places as it has discovered.
Are you understanding that yet folks??!!

Thank You for stopping bye! We agree with you that not everything needs to be exposed in order for places to retain their magic.
If you watched the video, then you may have noticed that we do not give away name, location or directions for that particular reason.
      Unless you know, you don't.
      All the best,
      The Michelle and Holger 🙏

Hi, Van Isle neighbors! You two are living the dream! I can’t wait for the weather to warm up a tad more so we can explore this beautiful island we live on.
Thank you for keeping your location to yourselves - it looks absolutely stunning, and my husband and I are inspired to do some map pick exploration this summer. I’m stoked I found your channel this morning. We look forward to viewing more of your content!
Who knows - maybe we’ll cross paths on a remote trail one day, and I do hope that came off in the friendly hiker way and not the other! 😹🙈🖤

Thank you for tuning in 🙂. We as well cannot wait for warmer, or at least drier, weather.
We tend to not give away our locations for many different reasons, unless it is already a well known or established site.
Glad we could provide some inspiration and may be we'll see you along the trail🙂.
      All the best,

Pretty amazing!! Love the long, narrow water (I assume it’s a lake because I didn’t notice tide lines…)
Can you say the reasons you couldn’t make it the previous tries? Forest fires or road conditions? Thanks! Great inspiration to try some spots off the beaten path!

      Yes, it is a lake🙂.
It was part road conditions (snow), and the other part is that it is just not easy to find, unless you know. We were just recently there again, and the road is not meant for low clearance, 2WD vehicles.
      Thank you for following along.

Hi Michelle and Holger, we enjoyed the scenery and great work on the video shots. Loved that yummy KD served up for a delicious camp meal. Great idea to match the plant book to the real plants, that was very cool and great resource for the back country. The lake here is super nice and we agree it was a perfect site for camping. Keep up the great work, see you on the next one! om & Suzanne

    I've got that book too😊
I find GaiaGPS to be awesome to have out there! It's pretty accurate and I download the map with the satellite layer before I head out. It's given me a better understanding of what I could be getting into.
It's always fun to explore new routes to see what you may run across. Looking forward to more of your adventures 😀

Yeah, that was fun. That was our third attempt to get there and it was well worth it.😊
Michelle was guiding nature tours a few years back and really enjoys looking things up.
Gaia is super helpful and I think the recent updates have improved it even more. I actually should get into the habit of downloading the maps with satellite layer, that is a good idea. 👍

    • @agesadventures

@@backroadjournals guiding nature tours sound like a good job😁 Just need to move it to 4x4 tours now😀
Yes, download the layers you'd like to use and it's great. It takes a bit more space, but modern cellphones come with adequate storage to handle it. I have from Jordan River all the way to about Sarita Lake in there. It's helpful when exploring new areas to figure out where the heck you are. I also add waypoints for certain spots and also use the route making tools too. I just wish it would show private property. I use my paper copy of Backroads Map Book to identify Mosaic lands and Crown Land.

We travel to Mexico every winter in our camper van from VI.. Many of the places we stop to visit along the way are from watching travel videos. When you don't share where these places are, although they are beautiful scenery videos shots they really don't inspire me to follow your channel. Maybe something for you to think about.

    • @backroadjournals
      @backroadjournals  4 месяца назад +3

      Thank You for your feedback.
We do understand that it is a double edged sword to either give or not give information on the location. Our decision to not share information on the location is based on a few factors:
      1. We do all of our research ourselves by studying backroad maps, satellite images and other, mostly local, insider tips. We do on occasion name the location if it is already a well known and established spot.
      2. We do a lot of exploring, and a lot of times end up in places that look promising on the map and end up being rather disappointing. So there is a lot of time and effort involved in finding some of the place that we are staying at.
      3. This particular spot took us three tries to get to. On top of that it is extremely difficult to get to.
      4. Out of respect to other local outdoor enthusiasts, who enjoy the same area that we are in and do, and have done, their own research, it would be wrong to publicly post the locations, just for those locations to be overrun like the rest of the island.
I hope that makes sense. Sorry to hear that we are not the channel for you, but hope that you enjoyed the video nonetheless.
Traveling to Mexico in the winter is a great way to to escape the cold and we are looking into planning a trip down there in the near future as well.
Thank You very much for watching and happy and safe travels
      All the best,
      Michelle and Holger 🙏

It took us three tries to get to this particular spot. As much as we would like to share names and locations, we try to keep all of our spots as secret as possible out of respect for the local communities that enjoy these spots as well.

enjoyed your video.. great work, great trip, much appreciated. by the by.. are you guys out of Campbell River by chance? if so, I live there and use MSFS 2020 within Virtual reality - I grew up here on the island and it's amazing how accurate this thing is. I can fly a helicopter/other low/high over any logging road system on the island and I'm amazed I could track backroads I was using in the 60's.. anyway, my point is.. if you are in my area and want to see what the heck I'm talking about.. you are welcome to come over and see the island as seen by Microsoft flight sim AI let me know... I think it might be a useful trip planning tool (for anywhere in the world)... but then again, I'm old and stupid. cheers. ruclips.net/video/PvS9HQ5h45w/видео.html
