@@kwith yeah they did it twice, i did find out about the twilight zone reference after i commented.... but yeah they played that reference twice in the show :)
Agree. Absolutely brilliant. Unfortunately, it's a bit esoteric and it went over the head of most people. Not me though. I laughed my ass off. Much respect to whomever wrote that joke.
if people don't know William shatner played in the twilight zone series and Lithgow refilmed that same episode playing shatner's character in twilight zone the movie
"I Looked out the window and I saw something on the wing of the plane" "The Same Thing Happened To Me" Gotta love that inside joke between John Lithgow and William Shatner
In those days when this episode was released, I had no idea what they were talking about. There was a lot frenzy in the media about this, and I felt I was missing the joke. I only understood the joke once I saw the Twilight episode with Shatner and the movie with Lthgow. Now looking at this clip, I enjoy the joke even more.
Such a great moment. I never really watched the show, but found out about this much later. Having seen both versions with Shatner and Lithgow, I'm still LMAO at this. And now I find out there's a 3rd version.... must find it.
1:05 I just got that reference. Both Shatner and Lithgow were in a Twilight Zone story called Nightmare at 20,000 Feet where they both saw a gremlin outside their airplane window on the airplane wing.
Guess ill have to get with times and watch twilight zone but they also referenced the episode in season 1 when Dick was on a trip with Mary and they got kicked off the plane
When I watched the show and the Big Giant Head was announced, I asked myself, who actually could play the superior of such a lunatic bunch. They coundn't have found anyone better.
Give credit to the writers for setting this up long before Shatner's appearence. There was an earlier episode where Dick is flying on a plane for the first time to some conference, and he sees something on the wing. "THIS THING IS A DEATH TRAP!"
The good old days of quality television. I don't know what the hell that crap is that passes for TV shows today 😂 with the rush dialogue, corny joke every minute, followed by seemingly endless toilet humor.
@@jameshudson169 I know Lithgow was in the remake in "Twilight Zone: The Movie." What I meant was, there's an episode where he goes into a rant about "the evils of rock and roll music" just like the character( a minister) he played in the film "Footloose" did.
'The same thing happened to me' Pure fecking genius piece of writing!!
Referring to Dicks trip with Mary when he wigged out LoL...
I like that they reference things that already happened in the show

@@kwith yup, this scene was kinda an inside joke regarding the role that both of these men played in the respective adaptations
Got to love it when writers put these kind of moments in shows
Gotta love it when there are shows that the writers can put these kind of moments into!

"Nightmare at 20,000 feet", a classic!
finally someone else that has the class to know what I was talking about lol
TJ F ;-)
+TJ F I love that show. So many great episodes. I actually have the book Nightmare at 20,000 feet by Richard Matherson.
I like both, but I like the Shatner one more.
"I Looked out the window and I saw something on the wing of the plane"
"The Same Thing Happened To Me"

I love how Lithgow and Shatner bounce off each other in this scene, especially with that Twilight Zone reference
judging from the audience response, most of them did not got the reference
@@luisrosado9772 Such a shame :(

The ones you heard were the ones who benefited more out of this scene are awesome to have known this or lived during those times. 😎

Shatner is brilliant in this episode he's got a gift for comedy,

Just realized that's my uncle escorting Big Head off the plane,& now I'm 2 degrees from Shatner!! Thanx Cramer (-*
That reference is solid gold.
nice that they worked in Shatner's Twilight Zone bit
Especially since John Lithgow also played that role in the Twilight Zone movie.
Oh, this was so funny. Happy 90th to William Shatner.
Jokes don't get any more inside than that!
the joke also references an earlier season episode where John Lithgow reenacts his Twilight Zone performance, when Dick and Mary were on a plane.
I think it is more in tune with their respective spots in the Twilight Zone episodes/movie
Greatest scene in television.
I agree. I remember falling out of my chair when they did that Twilight Zone reference
The William Shatner episode where he see's something on the wing of the plane in a Twilight zone episode is a classic.
i love how even the audience knew the refence, when he started talking i eagerly expected him to reference it (but i didn't know about litthgow part)
I just ordered the complete series on DVD and I’m really looking forward to it.
I just love the way he says "I love this planet already" always cracks me up
Shatner is a superb comedy actor.
@1:26 Shatner looked like he was going to say something else than 'Hot-Diggity'... Lol.
Shattner said in an interview that he improved a response to Lithgow, he said " I saw it first", but it was cut.

Props to Shatner for coming on the show, even after they made that girdle joke a few seasons before.
William Shatner as the Big Giant Head was perfect

This is legit mind-blowingly amazing.
shows golden. if they get somethin half as good as this in the next 10 years it would be a miracle
Lol, that was classic. I love the twilight zone
I wonder if bill Shatner saw something out of the window the other day
I remember when that first aired and I totally lost it when they made the Gremlin joke. Brilliant!
You havd to wonder what the people seeing the 4 make their salute are thinking lol
Probably that they're just as drunk as the guy they're saluting.
@@retnavybrat
Drunk people from another country, perhaps?
One of the funniest scenes in the whole show
This is my favorite part when Harry has that sign

hands down my favorite inside joke ever!
This is like joke Inception.
Shatner's face almost looks like Jack Black's face from certain angles in this.
I love this show
The "me too" movement begins again. Hehehe
The crowd response had like 2 people laughing and clapping. The rest were crickets. They didn't get it.
This show is great to begin with, but casting William Shatner as the BGH is nothing short of perfect casting
Captain umbridge
From star trek original series.
Haha sheldon also met shatner in bug bang theory
This. Was. Amazing.
Brilliant twighlight zone reference!
Incoming message from the Big Giant head
I just want the clip of him drinking a bloody mary saying 'It's going to be a golden day!"
Haha William Shatner
This was great
😂
Brilliant!
nope. lithgow should gone into a half rant about when it happened to him and the others should have given it "the old not again"!
He did that in a parody of his role in "Footloose" if that's what you're referring to by "rant."
