I picked up a bottle of that Barrel Strength Elijah Craig recently and just checked to see which one I got. Its the C release that you both seemed to like best. Gentlemen - thank you for the Lost Monarch recommendation. After buying 30+ bottles in the past 5 months of my new journey, this $29 gem is an absolute steal. First sip off the neck pour, I’m going back for a second bottle before people take them all. This is absolutely fantastic!
Hello bourbon Junkies. I just watched this episode today and having just visited a local liquor store, I was trying to decide between the New Riff and the Lost Monarch. I went with the Lost Monarch because of Dan’s passion. Thanks for all you do.
Wattie Boone & Sons (7 year) - received it as a Christmas present and it was my first time having it. What a smooth whisky for people that prefer a neat glass.
I finally tracked down a ECBP C920 for $70 (hard to find in tiny ass Rhode Island) and it's my favorite bourbon I've ever had. Boom, mind blown. Love the channel fellas!!!
Thanks for doing your thing guys. I’m naive and at the same time surprised that WhiskyTubers need to state that every review, etc. is your opinion(s). I watched this channel more than anything in 2019. You guys are killing it!
My fiancée (who knows absolutely nothing about whiskey) bought me a bottle of Redwood Empire because she liked the label. This the first video I’ve seen it mentioned in. Beyond excited to get home and try it now.
I tried the lost monarch and it’s definitely delicious. Thanks for the recommend Dan! Tastes like Smoke Wagon’s lowest proofed one but more rye flavor. Only $35 it’s a good deal.
I am fully convinced that dan and sean's palates are almost the same as mine. Eagle Rare and Lost Monarch are the two whiskies that bring me more joy than anything. And ecbp is probably my favorite whiskey I've had. Makes it easy take them up on any of their recommendations.
Well I'm going to pick up 2 or 3 bottles of that redwood empire tomorrow! John Muir is a legend of California, and more specifically the sierra nevada mountain range upon which he trekked and helped to preserve for generations to come. I'm not sure how this bottle would play in the hands of someone who is very new to whiskey. But this bottle is a perfect gift for my father. We go fishing yearly in the sierra's and its a true highlight of life. Endless nature and beauty, and memories as far as the eye can see. This is a bottle that just for the art alone. would oddly sit well next to any dedicated fly fishers wall of fish memorabilia, or next to any dedicated hiker type (potentially westerner) as the john muir trial is part of the pacific crest trail (the part through the sierras). Edit: Found them for 34 bucks a bottle. Worth it for the art alone!
I live in NorCal only 30-40 min from Redwood Empire distillery. Picked up a bottle today of the Lost Monarch and Eagle Rare. Thanks for the recommendations.
I received only gift cards to the liquor store (I work at) from my family for Christmas so I was able to blow it all and more on the Angels Envy Cask Strength 2020!! What a bottle man, totally worth it and was very lucky that it was still sitting there on the shelf two days after Christmas. nothing better than when your family truly understands!
My fav in 2020 besides EC barrel proof you already mentioned, was Wilderness Trail Rye Single Barrel, think it was between $50-$60 a bottle. 107 and 114 proof for the two bottles I have. Don’t let the 4 year age statement fool you, doesn’t taste young at all, this rye is sweet and delicious. They’re in KY and I’m way out here in CA so if they offer them out here it’s gotta be at most other states.
I completely agree that shelf appeal plays into the bottle and my go-to bottle for this year was KC12. People in VA were losing their minds and lining up for ER, BT and it sat on the shelf until it hit top whiskey lists. Now it's getting harder to find.
My favorite whiskey I had this year was Midwinter Night's Dram, favorite widely available whiskey was Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit. Opened and drank both on Christmas day, so maybe the holidays influenced my perception.
Purchased a Makers 46 Cask Strength today at the local grocery store. Last one. You were right very good I think it is better than the latest stave release.
Awesome list for the most part. God damn EC Toasted Barrel has been a unicorn around the DMV though and haven't seen the Sam Houston 14, only the 12. Awesome bonus bottle Dan with the Redwood Empire Series! They had a $20 rebate if you bought three bottles, so I got the Lost Monarch, Emerald Giant and Pipe Dream, netting out at
Great show! searching for Sam here in NY, going for 150 worth it? Also, how about Willet 4 year? Its amazing and available or does that fall in line with 1920 being on list yearly. Cheers
Would be nice to find any Elijah Craig outside the 94 proof. Haven't seen one of them ever and I live in Cincinnati. Just grab the Chattanooga ride and that's fantastic as well as the Lost monarch. Never seen a Sam Houston bottle of any type anywhere here in Cincinnati Orr Indiana and Kentucky and I don't know if I've ever seen a sycamore spirit either. Any hints for any spots in the tri-state area??
@@itswhiskeytime8538 Don’t worry. The taters are still on the great Buffalo Trace chase. If Rogan ever gets sponsored by Wild Turkey, then I’ll start to worry lol.
I hunted and hunted and hunted Makers 46 Cask strength all over the Chicago area since about Thanksgiving. I've found one bottle. And when I say hunted... I checked big stores, mom and pops, inquired with owners about sourcing one. Got one bottle from one store. That is, here, not an easy bottle to find. I had less trouble with Eagle Rare, Elijah Craig Barrel Proof A-C, Stagg Jr., etc.
I bought Lost Monarch 2 months ago and was blown away. It is now my favorite daily drinker. I even prefer it over my bottle of Lux Row. Lost Monarch is legit delicious.
In all seriousness, I love how we all have different tastes. For instance, I loooooove Dickel BIB and it's so interesting to me that so many people dislike it.
Cat's footage is win! Disappointed that Eagle Rare, Redwood Empire, and the EC Barrel Proof are hard to find here in Houston. Would love to try that Redwood Monarch. I don't really hunt, though.
Spot on with the Eagle Rare, I buy those down here in Houston everytime I see them and it's alot more often then other allocated bourbons. Guess I'll look for me a Lost Monarch after that closing from Dan. 😂 Love it, yall keep it up. Love to see a video on best hunting or deer camp whiskeys.
Power's Johns Lane Release was my top find. The box with the whiskey inside included the a copy of the distillery map on the back of Alfred Barnard's account from 1886. Barrel Bourbon batch 22 was my top bourbon. I do have unopened Green Spot, Yellow Spot, and Powers 3 swallow from last year to open yet
When the redwood lost monarch sits a bit and does its thing - I swear I get melons off the nose, barely watermelon more honey dew towards the rind and I love it. It's just different and tasty.
Well done boys!! I'd go with the ER and Lost Monarch as the top 2. Sean's idea on the SH 14 yr, eh, over priced and had mixed reviews. Dan's pick on the Sagemore Double Oaked Rye, solid. I'm not big on ryes but that was delicious when I tried it. Cheers Junkies - keep pumping iron!! 💯🥃🤙
Eagle Rare is my EDB, but it is very difficult to find in Arkansas and $60+ when you do. I used to find it in Virginia at the ABC stores for MSRP, but this past fall/winter it has become rare there too. Maybe a trip to WI would solve the dilemma..??..? Good work, guys!
Since 2020 was the year I started exploring whiskey, I'd have to say my favorite is a tie between Ardbeg Black and a single barrel blue corn bourbon from Bluegrass Distillers.
Loved the Sam Houston 14. Had two bottles. Both TN. Absolutely fantastic. Son and daughter in law got a couple of Stagg Jr.s. The first was AWESOME, the 2nd was just fair.
My favorite was Woodford Reserve Double Oaked - 90.4 Proof for new Bourbon Drinkers like myself - Can't take the heat of things over 100 proof - Thanks again
I got to agree my number 1 bourbon for me this year was Elijah Craig C920 I absolutely love it I ended up with 4 Bottles of it and 2 is gone I’d even say I like it more then Stagg 14 which is still amazing cheers.
