  • This has been taken from an earlier video at RAF Holbeach on 15 August 2011. It starts with a couple of runs at the target with practice bombs, then 4 runs using the 30mm GAU 8 cannon. The last A-10 left for the USA in May 2013, so this will never be seen again in the UK, ........or will it.

Love the sound of the GAU 8 cannon, great footage we will probably never see A-10 at Holbeach again.

Yes, it would be nice, but it's the wrong time of year for me. If the US Gov get their way, you won't see the A 10 anywhere pretty soon.

That brings back memories, from a range worker at the former RAF COWDEN AWR.

God i miss the Hawgs. Grew next door to RAF Wainfleet and was woken to a 30mm alarm clock most days. More so in the 80`s and 90`s but then there was a decline of activity from the late 90`s. RAF & USAFE Phantoms, Jaguars, F111`s, the list was endless. Also had a couple of B2`s (2005 & 2009ish) and B52`s just before the ranges demise in 2010. Such a sad time.

The A-10s were from Spangdahlem on a 2 week deployment to RAF Lakenheath.

They were part of a flight of 12, that arrived Mildenhall from Bangor on the 13th July and have left for Eastern Europe, this morning, 15th July, so you might see them again when they go home after their deployment.

I first heard it, about 2 miles from the range, in my pick up. It was so loud, I thought the truck had busted. I was lucky to have caught them before they left...

We watched them from the car park dropping the chalk bombs, 4 of them. Then they each did low pass over car park each opening and closing their aircraft air brakes to say bye, then flew away.

Checking this forum log www.fightercontrol.co.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=117 will give you a rough idea of how frequent the visits are. Luck plays a big part...

The last A-10s left Woodbridge and Bentwaters in 1993. So these A-10s must be from Germany.
