With regards to the elections, I unsubscribed from the channels reporting on politics. I stressed subscribing to channels for topics I actually have control over, such as decluttering my home. Focusing on what I have control of kept me going on my goals.
I did the same thing. I can't invest anymore of my emotions or time into something that's totally out of my hands. I'm currently an adult college student and I'm just going to put all the focus on my studies.
So many important points in this video. It's crazy how much the internet has changed in just a couple of years and how profoundly yet slyly it started to affect our lives. I feel like I personally could use a good reset.
Cal’s advice really hits home, especially in today’s nonstop digital chaos. It’s not just about taking a break from the noise-it’s about reconnecting with what makes us feel alive. Slowing down with a good book, stepping outside to breathe in nature, or spending time with loved ones reminds us that life is more than the scroll or the endless updates. His idea of focusing on things that truly nourish us-our minds, our relationships, and our sense of peace-is such a powerful way to reset and find balance. It’s a reminder we all need.
It is interesting you say you found reading to be calming. I am an emdr trained therapist and I recall learning there is a theory that reading calms the nervous system the way that the eye movement sessions do because you move the eyes back and forth while reading. But in any case reading is so great because you can go at exactly to your own pace.
Based on what I have learned from your books and podcasts. This is the only podcast I listen to, and the only RUclips channel I follow. No social media, no cable news or broadcast news or professional sports broadcasts, no subscriptions to newsletters. I get my news from brief looks at online news sites once a day at lunch, and by taking a look at our local paper and the Wall Street Journal when I visit the library. Lot's of time freed up for doing great work. Seeing lots of improvement across many spectrums. Thanks!
New listener here, absolutely loved this episode. I’m starting to apply some of your principles into my work day. I’m excited to keep listening and applying the focused advice, we’ll see how it goes! thank you

It's funny, I came to this conclusion on election night. I deleted all social media off my phone last Tuesday night and haven't been back on in a week... This might be the end for me.
in summer 2020, I did the digital detox because of the election, told myself that I’d go 30 days without social media. I felt so good I never started back up again. It’s like when you quit junk food or drinking, and you realize, oh, this is what it feels like to feel good.
love your videos by the way, I think your camera's shutter speed is too low. when you move around a lot it noticeably blurs which is a bit distracting. it has made me wonder several times if RUclips was downgrading the video quality, but I'm still noticing this when forcing it to use the highest quality
I stopped using FB and IG about 7 years ago after my partner died and it was a fabulous decision. I've never had a twitter account. Before the election I was subscribed to a lot of political channels and yeah it was distracting asf. Now that it's over, I just don't want to think about it anymore. I unsubbed to all of them and I refuse to look at any sort of news that's remotely related. I just can't invest anymore emotions into something I have no control over and I don't want to be constantly reminded how awful so many people are. I'm an adult college student, majoring in a stem degree and I'm just going to throw all of my focus into that. Hopefully we'll still have a department of education after all this bullshit.
Are your talks equally relevant to the third world countries or people or just for the developed ones bc here things are very df from your 1 st woorld plz 🙏🙏 tell?
I’ve reduced my social media to the bare minimum of classic left, trad right and libertarian: Tucker, Megyn Kelly, Comic Dave Smith, All-In, Scott Adams, Tim Poole, Dillon, PBD.
Nice message, Cal. Let’s restore the humanity and see each other as brothers & sisters, community (even online).

“Profoundly yet slyly” is exactly the right description.

I set a parental control timer over my social media for 5 minutes because. It was a profound change in my time use.
ADD/ADHD plays havoc for me. Endless swirling Thoughts and Ideas through my Mind!

Hey Cal.
One Sunday paper a week as one's only news content is a pretty good permanent choice, imo.

Every second matters
In 2016… simpler time…Obama’s awesome…there’s some weird tea party people but I think they just like tricorn hats 😂😂😂😂😂
