Cal would say 'Why waste your time making a comment on a video you dont like . Just dont watch and move on". I personally love this video and recommend it.
Very interesting podcast, thank you! 💡 One remark about the question of the different types of Deep Work, at around 59:59, and the fact that some days will be more productive than others: For women, there are big hormonal variations during the month, which is an additional factor to take into account for the lady asking the question. Women can feel either very energetic or very drained depending on the week of their cycle. So that’s normal if some periods in the month are more productive than others, and that could be taken into consideration in her planning.
I've been reading your deep work book these days and what you teach us here and there is really helpful to us. Thank you so much Sir. Keep up your great work ❤❤
Cal, I appreciate your channel. I am a homemaker and these video have help me alot. It confirm to me that I need to take control of my life and plan accordingly. Thank you so much
I have three businesses and am launching a fourth, so I'm in growth mode - I feel reading books is a massive waste of time when those time slots could be so much better spent on lead gen and closing sales, in terms of the return on that time allocated.
Can you offer advice to most people who have 9-5s? Most people aren't freelancers so have very little control over their own schedule. If i blocked out time in my daily schedule my boss would literally message me and ask what I was blocking out time for. I think the free scheduling time you're talking about for most people occurs in the evenings, the mornings or weekends.
Cal Newport advice is useful for people who have severe, almost to a pathological level, productivity issues. For example, a person who gets hundreds of E-mail daily, and has a few dozen meetings every week. I'd like to believe this isn't the average person (definitely not me). I also have some productivity issues, but I don't see how all of this would benefit me (I've read two Cal books), I think if you are sane and have a decently well-defined craft or job, you don't need any of this. I guess it'd be useful for people who have an insanely huge mess in their lives with a bunch of activities that barely resemble "work".
I'm pretty sure this is him laying down the principles and examples outright, fully optimized and laying everything out to the finest hypothetical, and then it's up to us to figure out what parts we want to implement in our lives and which information is useful for our own situation.. also, just because you don't need it now doesn't mean it won't be helpful at some point .. for instance, if you want to take on a new creative project or hobbies, maybe some of these will help you squeeze out an extra hour per day to yourself to actually fulfill your idea. Not saying I disagree with your comment, I do think a lot of people are quiet basic though, and not saying I'm not but literally don't watch TV, play games, drink or anything because I prefer to use all my time working on my own projects and hobbies when Im not working, which after years of feeling you don't make progress information like this is something worth testing, because the soul depends on it 😂
I think your comment is SPOT ON! I have no problem with endless emails and meetings, it's an issue only for higher up execs or similar roles. As a simple office employee my biggest problems with productivity at work are emotional - don't want to start a certain task, because it's overwhelming or plain unattractive, thus procrastinate. Speaking of personal life my challenge is not burning all my energy during the work hours. Because I have my personal projects, home renovation and even wedding planning - all these things must be done after work and oftentimes I have no energy left. Not checking email doesn't help me at all lmao
Most of these solutions only work in an academic setting, where you have the luxury of scheduling your time as you wish. In a typical 9-to-5 office job, it doesn't work like that."
Just realize that all the big techs and other Fortune 500 companies did not get there and we wouldn't have the biggest economy if they were doing slow productivity. It's plain and basic sensible allocation of time and capital. Most of these gurus go into their 30s and 40s, have kids and then suddenly productivity principles change.
Hey Cal , very good video ! I was wondering if I can help you with more Quality Editing in your videos and make Highly Engaging Thumbnails which will help your videos to get more views and engagement . Please let me know what do you think ?
@@rohanbsharma True that, but where is it written that "podcast" is defined as "10 minutes of vital information buried in more than 60 minutes of pleasantries and anecdotes?" But don't get me wrong here. I have been a fan of Cal for years. As an educator I routinely handed out copies of "How to Be a High School Superstar..." to my students. Not a month goes by that I do not refer to my very worn copy of "Deep Work." Cal is a certified genius with an amazing flair for succinctly communicating what is most important. I just think that he has lost his way and needs a good editor.

yeh he has a LOT of freedom for scheduling and I wonder if he's only surrounded by people who are basically freelancers.

Deep Productivity:)
More than 1 hr 14 mins ... can this be more focused into something that is less than 15 mins?
I am working full time, 37.5 and trying to start a new teaching practice. ( Private lessons). What is your opinion on that?
That's really interesting! What do you teach?
