This tutorial was very short and to the point, which was exactly what I was looking for. Another thing you could do is, if you don't have an extra controller besides the ps4 controller, then what you could do is use the wired method to get to the bluetooth menu, then after you start scanning for the ps4 controller wirelessly, then you would unplug it and then make it enter wireless mode

So when I left to get away from the drama my dad unplugged it and sold it to some 10 year old for $60. He didn't even clear my account off or anything so this kid got into my account and screwed everything up. Not to mention I had a game in the disc drive as well so this kid got a PS4 with 6 games for $60. I spent $200 on the games and dlcs and I'm still mad at my dad for pulling that one on me.
@@raysh____19 try going to the controller setting and setting whatever controller your trying to use to number 1 with the current controller that’s working, I had to remember ps3 had controller rolls mines wasn’t working when I set my ps5 controller up to it cause it wasn’t the main controller connected that could controller everything
I'm having issues as well I can't go to the main menu some games the start button does not work it disconnects and wants the cable it's just a headache at this point ima just buy a ps3 controller instead.
For those wondering yes it works on a PS5 controller exactly the same I only have to use PS4 controller keep it plugged in while doing this so you don't need PS3 controller

The controller got all gummed up so I took it apart to clean it, put it back together and I don’t put the bumpers on correctly… and then we moved. And forgot the mini tool kit. So she’s been devastated. So I got her a fresh ps4 controller til I can surprise her with a ps5 next week; she’s estatic!

man thank you so much, both of my ps3 controllers are dirty and the one has a problem with the right joystick and it moves on its own, making games super difficult to play. I want to say thank you from the future. I have not been able to find an authentic controller and my PS3 has been a dust magnet. Now I cam go back to playing my PS3. For anyone who is like me. You have 2 options in case you don't have a PS3 controller to navigate to accept the new PS4 controller. If you have a second one and the cable, use the second one to set up the dedicated PS4 (for PS3 system). You will need something to accept the pairing after it has connected other wise it won't finish. Even a keyboard will probably work just to hit accept. With the cable connected, you can't finalize the Bluetooth connection.

Dug out my old PS3 to play some games from way back. Controller still works, but some buttons were so squeaky I was going mad. Great to know this option exists.
Only thing you forgot to say is if you connect your PlayStation 4 controller with your Playstation 3 then you have to change the PlayStation 3 controller settings as a 2nd player/number 2 controller. So that the PlayStation 4 controller you want to remotely use can now be used for the Playstation 3. while The Other controller wil basically be the secondary player and you can Turn Off The secondary controller making The PlayStation 4 controller the number 1 controler. And the only controller that you can now Play with. If you don't do that then you wil not be able to play with your PlayStation 4 controller on any games. (You can use it on the Playstation menu but that's it. Every game you try to play with will not be able to be played with that controller other wise) But also before you turn of or place your ps3 controller to the 2nd player in the settings, activate the game I want to play. And then turn it to player 2 and turn that controler off. Then you wil basically be able to play games with your ps4 controler

Thanks bro, saved me 50 bucks! Also, if you do it wirelessly DO NOT use cordd like your phone charger, it will wear it out very quickly. I highly suggest using the wireless way unless you own a proper cord meant to coordinate with remotes and stuff.

How do you enter the menu to quit a certain game once you're in it though? It seems that option doesn't work whilst using a PS4 controller on PS3.. it's annoying to have to manually turn off the system everytime in order to switch between games, etc.
That function is not supported when using a ds4 on ps3 so you have to use an original or 3rd party ps3 controller (3rd party must support it as well) or eject your game, If digital continue turning it off every time.

Holy shit I bought a backwards compatible ps3 for my little brother a couple months back and I had no clue it could use a ps4 controller! The 12 year old me would have just plugged it in, but now that I'm 25 these things just fly over my head I'm so happy. Now my little bro can play red dead redemption and all his ps2 games on a ps4 controller (which is so much more affordable and easier to hold!!) Ps3 controllers should not be going for $100+ if ps4 controllers can just replace them!! I'm currently bidding on a brand new one on eBay right and I'm about to cancel it!!

Some cables only charge devices, other cables charge and send information. The cable you used was probably only charging your controller not registering it

Works while wired, but not wireless. Even though my controller blinks white, my PS3 can't find it (though it does see other bluetooth devices in my house).
He says hold the option button and ps button but he is fucking holding the share button and I went on doing it I kept saying why tf is it not working then I looked back he was FUCKING HOLDING THE SHARE BUTTON LIKE SERIOUSLY WTF!
You can do it with jus true PS4 controller too, just gotta use a usb cable and the PS4 controller and RIGHT after you press start scanning, take out the usb or charger from the controller and hold share and ps button, then when it shows up on the tv, connect it with usb again and select it. Then take out the usb once it says it’s connected and press ps button. It worked for me :)
You don't need a ps3 controller !!! Plug in ps4 controller go to start scan screen. Unplug ps4 controller, put in pair mode. Plug back in and start scan and pair.👍🏼 Worked for me hope it helps

Strange, I paired it wirelessly, it worked fine on the navigation menu, fine on a downloaded game (Final Fight Arcade), but when I tried to play Metal Gear Solid 4 (disc) the ps4 controller does not respond at all...none of the buttons

This tutorial was very short and to the point, which was exactly what I was looking for. Another thing you could do is, if you don't have an extra controller besides the ps4 controller, then what you could do is use the wired method to get to the bluetooth menu, then after you start scanning for the ps4 controller wirelessly, then you would unplug it and then make it enter wireless mode

So when I left to get away from the drama my dad unplugged it and sold it to some 10 year old for $60. He didn't even clear my account off or anything so this kid got into my account and screwed everything up. Not to mention I had a game in the disc drive as well so this kid got a PS4 with 6 games for $60. I spent $200 on the games and dlcs and I'm still mad at my dad for pulling that one on me.

It actually worked, I'd recommend the wireless route. Plugging in the controller only works if u kept it plugged in from my personal experience.

@@raysh____19 try going to the controller setting and setting whatever controller your trying to use to number 1 with the current controller that’s working, I had to remember ps3 had controller rolls mines wasn’t working when I set my ps5 controller up to it cause it wasn’t the main controller connected that could controller everything

I want to say thank you from the future. I have not been able to find an authentic controller and my PS3 has been a dust magnet. Now I cam go back to playing my PS3. For anyone who is like me. You have 2 options in case you don't have a PS3 controller to navigate to accept the new PS4 controller. If you have a second one and the cable, use the second one to set up the dedicated PS4 (for PS3 system). You will need something to accept the pairing after it has connected other wise it won't finish. Even a keyboard will probably work just to hit accept. With the cable connected, you can't finalize the Bluetooth connection.

Dug out my old PS3 to play some games from way back. Controller still works, but some buttons were so squeaky I was going mad. Great to know this option exists.
Only thing you forgot to say is if you connect your PlayStation 4 controller with your Playstation 3 then you have to change the PlayStation 3 controller settings as a 2nd player/number 2 controller. So that the PlayStation 4 controller you want to remotely use can now be used for the Playstation 3. while The Other controller wil basically be the secondary player and you can Turn Off The secondary controller making The PlayStation 4 controller the number 1 controler. And the only controller that you can now Play with. If you don't do that then you wil not be able to play with your PlayStation 4 controller on any games. (You can use it on the Playstation menu but that's it. Every game you try to play with will not be able to be played with that controller other wise)
But also before you turn of or place your ps3 controller to the 2nd player in the settings, activate the game I want to play. And then turn it to player 2 and turn that controler off. Then you wil basically be able to play games with your ps4 controler

Thanks bro, saved me 50 bucks! Also, if you do it wirelessly DO NOT use cordd like your phone charger, it will wear it out very quickly. I highly suggest using the wireless way unless you own a proper cord meant to coordinate with remotes and stuff.

How do you enter the menu to quit a certain game once you're in it though? It seems that option doesn't work whilst using a PS4 controller on PS3.. it's annoying to have to manually turn off the system everytime in order to switch between games, etc.
That function is not supported when using a ds4 on ps3 so you have to use an original or 3rd party ps3 controller (3rd party must support it as well) or eject your game, If digital continue turning it off every time.

Some cables only charge devices, other cables charge and send information. The cable you used was probably only charging your controller not registering it

Igor Afanasiev you have connect with Bluetooth. It doesn’t work with usb.
It should work with usb, so if it doesn't then something's wrong.

Works while wired, but not wireless. Even though my controller blinks white, my PS3 can't find it (though it does see other bluetooth devices in my house).

You can do it with jus true PS4 controller too, just gotta use a usb cable and the PS4 controller and RIGHT after you press start scanning, take out the usb or charger from the controller and hold share and ps button, then when it shows up on the tv, connect it with usb again and select it. Then take out the usb once it says it’s connected and press ps button. It worked for me :)

You don't need a ps3 controller !!!
Plug in ps4 controller go to start scan screen.
Unplug ps4 controller, put in pair mode.
Plug back in and start scan and pair.👍🏼
