What some Spanish countries call Chayote (vegetable), in Jamaica, we call it chocho. Well, when I lived in Washington Heights, I had many people look at me really strange when I asked for it. I later found out what Chocha was and I made sure I started calling it by it's Spanish name.

I told him one day “me antoja una chicha”.He looked at me and drag me to the room. Saying get undressed. I was so confused. Apparently chicha to Dominicans means to have sex. So yeah awkward.

It's to my understanding that tortilla can either refer to the flat bread made from corn masa or an omelette or quiche, depending on what country you're from. In Cuba, tortilla is also a slang word for a lesbian as well. I'm not sure if it's a negative slang word though. If it is, I apologize.

I'm Dominican and I always took pendejo to mean a person doesn't know how to defend themselves in life whether it's in a fist fight, fixing things, or providing for oneself and/ or their kids. A person that can't or is unwilling to take responsibility for themselves is considered a pendejo.

Actually in Argentina we use the word pendejo in a different way. Is a way of saying kid or child (as niño o nene) but we also use it to call somebody childish.
