I love rebuilding something that has been used for a while, taking care of all the little things that were not quite right - and hopefully ending up with a more functional space.
Absolutely. Making stuff yourself really allows you to constantly improve your space.
@@Iliketomakestuff are you painting a sith holocron?
@@Iliketomakestuff Ah, the Jimmy Diresta pinned comment hot tub. Love it! I'm totally taping my Shop-Vac hose to more things. I used a steel clamp and one of those black coupling hoses for my router, but that doesn't work for everything. And if I lose the clamp....
I can see a lot of this being a good booth for selling things in the web. I'd just make the whiteboard on the inside, skip the ventilation, and make the pullouts wider.
The packing tape I would recommend two layers of tape since it's easier to peel tape off itself and the outside layer would be the sacrificial layer.
I have the same LED strips, and I left them on for a while and checked for heat... I don't think the tape will melt, and the double layer idea would take care of the over-spray
I was thinking the same thing too, but instead some weak scotch tape, then the packing tape, because packing tape would be very difficult to removed from the LEDs and could end up ruining them.
You mentioned changing your blower to an in-line fan. Could we get a link to that? Love the project & thanks for the awesome video! I’m really inspired by your channel :)
“I’m Bob at ILTMS. I don’t like painting but I made another paint booth”.
Great work. So much fun and evolution of the paint booth over the years.
I love seeing the paint booth evolve over time! Really fun to watch! ☺️
Glad you enjoyed it!
I Like To Make Stuff can’t wait to see how u incorporate more tech in the booth 👀
I spray paint for a living my spray booths we lined with wood and then spray a silicon layer which just peels off once it gets thick with paint just an idea it's cheaper than replacing the wood all the time and it peels off pretty easy
As a rule of thumb, silicone is the mortal enemy of a paint shop. Are you sure it's silicone? Most peelable booth coats are a latex based. To be honest you never want to get silicone near automotive paint, even WD-40. I was part of the team that got to go fix and replace another vendors ductwork at a well-known snowmobile and ATV manufacturer because they're installers used silicone and they're paint fisheyed for half a year before they figured out the root cause. Silicone caulking for example doesn't fully out gas for a really long time.
@@eclsnowman Yes latex lol 😀
11:10 When you said "I'm gonna clamp these on" I didn't realize you meant it literally, but I guess you are the clamp champ after all
How did you know this is exactly what I needed. 🤔🙌
Lol
Great video as always
One thing I want to point out is that LED do get hot as any other electronic or machine that uses electricity as energy.
The difference is the amount of power they need.
So, those small leds won't heat up much because they are probably 1 watt each or so.
But people can get confunsed and think that all LEDs, no matter the wattage, will run cool, and that can lead to accidents.
Imagine how cool this guys house is , everything bespoke and perfectly made✌️
WANT IT BUILD IT
Nothing is perfectly made. That's the point of doing it yourself, you can continually make it better.
@@Iliketomakestuff perfection is far away, but I am headed in that direction 🤣
@@Iliketomakestuff imagine how cool this guy's house is... everything is imperfectly made
@@LL-wc4wn hee hee hee. I have a litany for that concept... My daddy was a plumber and all of our taps dripped!!!!
“Let’s go cut down some 2x4s” Music to my ears
Nicholas Rehm hehe
That is such a good idea to cover the LEDs with clear tape that can be replaced when it gets covered with too much paint.
Nice upgrade
Thanks!
You should change the fan opening to be a little more like a ceiling fan,,, where it wont go straight in but it pulls from the four outsides of a square cover (that way any of the fumes that are higher up get pulled in awell)
I was thinking about something like a kitchen fume extractor
Bob makes everything look so easy. Love it. I really need to get around to building a spray booth for the winters here in NY
Since I moved to CNY It makes painting a bit tricking during the winter. Im planning a paint booth now for the workshop
This is a really great thing to do, revisiting things and finding out, "what did I think would work well but didn't" and "how can I improve this knowing what i know now" It's a great strategy for lots of things and makes a really interesting video!
Absolutely!
as a programmer , and content creator , I second this , I lost count how many times I changed something in my program or video , and it ended up heaps better than planned even
Really like the vertical drawers on the bottom and all the problem solving, thanks for the sharing the process 👍🏼👍🏼 and congrats on 3mil!
I love your extremely nice way of saying "I know this is never going to happen but people are probably going to comment on this so I'll just pretend maybe this could possibly happen...." love the new booth!
Ayy version 3! Iterating to make something better is always a good time
Since becoming an engineer back in the 70's, I have learned so much more than I did in college from youtube videos. This channel is just one of many EXCELLENT channels. Thank You Professor !!
6:16 "It's a bob in a booth!" 😀
Eye hooks instead of staples to attach the surgical tubing tying it to itself or on the eye hooks
Reusing scraps is awesome, I've just done that on a project I'm working on where I've been able to use offcuts I had kept to the side which I really wasn't planning or even expecting to use for anything so yay. I'd quite like space for a paint booth too but I've no idea where I would put one in my tiny workshop so I'll probably stick to cans of paint for now...
Awesome creative upgrade!
This is just what I needed! I think for me I'd like to take this frame and scale it down for myself to about 50% in size so It'll fit better in my tiny space...
I do woodworking in school and since watching theses videos I have improved some skills and my teacher was wondering how I progressed so quick. So I pointed her to your channel
Nice!
Prototype, prototype with repairs and improvement then final version without the bugs. That’s a project I would love to have in my shop some day.
Good job
Love it!!! This is actually a mini version of an ambitious firewood drying booth I am designing with sliding columns. You definitely gave me some new ideas. Thanks Bob.
Its always awesome to watch Bob make things, i got inspired and built a home gym, i made a bench, power rack, pullup and dip bars as well as the barbell itself
Another fantastic job Bob always keeping me entertained in the video from start to finish
Really enjoyed the sharing of the design changes/progression for the under the cabinet storage solution.
The paint booth I never knew I needed. Amazing
Tape over the LEDs was genius
@16:00 I really like your great video.
Just one point: no matter if bar goes from top zu bottom, the force get's in the system were you grab the bar.
If you are still accepting ideas for a project, I would love to see how you would build a desk with adjustable height. With memory positions.
nice work bob
Thanks for keeping the video all in one part!
Great idea with the stretchy tube around the cans!
That turned out great Bob! Can't wait to see what improvements you come up with & add to this booth down the road a bit....... 👍👍😉😉
I love how creative you get. I wouldn’t have thought to use a flexible line to hold them in place. Awesome man.
Two cans...two cans...two cans...SAM! Say it! Finish the line!🤣
Love the video and great job on the paint Booth. Hope you all are doing well.
Thank you! You too!
Wow cool video!
Research lath screws. They are like truss head screws and are great for attaching thin materials without haveing the bugle head of a drywall screw sticking up.
You keep making my dream shop more complex. Great work.
I love yours. but it's very convenient to have a nice big shop
this man is genius
Great job, especially liked the black tubing to hold the cans in.
Best channel ever
Project turned out very well there keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend keep making
Great up-grade, just one simple suggestion, the booth uses lights and fans at 12dcV , it can work with a solar panel off-the grid so it can also can be an emergency light for the shop.
Just an idea.
Great videos!!!
U da man...man. that is one of the coolest paint booth I have ever seen.
you could use washers on the screws for the net just to be sure it doesnt slide out :)
Bob should do more stuff with mark Rober
Another useful project for all the makers out there
Absolutely
The sliding storage is awesome!
Nice! I use an old dishwasher box with an small fan held in place with iron tie wire.
Zoltan! Next up - bubble wrap paint booth suits.
Another good solution. Thank you for posting this.
That's an awesome build, definitely something I'd like in my shop! I think for the rattle can shelves I would add a second string of rubber towards the bottom or maybe a small lip so that the cans can't accidentally slip out.
The packing tape LED protector was such a good idea!
Love the ideas for storage in the drawers below!
Glad you like them!
You made sliding spice rack pull out drawers for paint cans. You could’ve used horizontal fans too.
Great work and love the shop
This is amazing!
Thanks!
How many other people's Alexa devices couldn't find a device called exhaust. Gotta love technology 😃👍
Nice build! That helps me with some ideas I’ve got for a small parts booth. Thanks!
You mentioned a link to the upgraded fan, but I don't see it in the description. Is there a video on that?
I kinda forgot about this channel and I just remembered about it and it's just as amazing as I remember
Great project! The surgical tubing was a clever addition.
You made everything bigger, heavier and "luxurier", seriously it looks great!
With limited budget with limited skill, I think I will just stay with 2x2 frame, corrugated plastic (or vapor barrier), with 2 paint can karts underneath! There's always a gap between what we see great and what actually come out.
Thanks for the video!!
@6:37 Making a paint booth in paint splattered sole shoes😁
They're designed that way 😄
one thing That i think will cause the problem. that elastic thingy you use to guide the can is not enough... If its not fully loaded, there will be space... When you accidentally hit your knee or ankle (that will be so painful) the can will fall and roll over the place.. Nice build btw..
Thank You.
Ok That surgical tubing idea is genius. Great build
Nice easy build for a common need in a multi use shop. Love your videos and podcast! You are part of the good in the world.
One thing you mentioned that isn't in the description is the upgraded fan. Perhaps you can share that info with us?
Love that storage solution. Might have to make some.
Interested to see the fan you chose now, that’s the part that always scared me on an indoor paint booth
4:10 Bob, have you thought about making the top slope down about 30° to 45° towards the back of the booth?
That would dramatically reduce the internal volume of the spray booth. Which is a good thing.
Love the design, I definitely need a paint booth. Tired of all my projects having bugs in the paint from being painted in the yard. Also looking forward to seeing R2 get his feet now that you've teased us with this..
I remember watching your original paint booth video when it came out! Crazy how fast time goes, seems like just a few months ago! Keep doing amazing work!
It does!
HEY I ‘M WOODLAND BURL AND I LIKE TO WATCH YOU MAKE STUFF!
A cheaper version of the fan solution would be to get some clamp fans for dorm rooms at Walmart or target or something. It allows you to angle it to whatever you want and little restriction
Cool project!
You might consider using restaurant grade plastic film to cover your surfaces. Like the strapping tape covering the lights, it's easily replaced as needed - and saves on repainting. It's also relatively cheap at restaurant supply stores.
I love the storage idea. My only concern is that your ventilation hood is too low.
But I'm definitely stealing the paint cabinet idea! Thanks for a great video!
"chicken wire, pig wire, whatever..."... That would be hardware cloth, lol. Another great video with great ideas. Thanks!
0:01 , Hey I'm one of your subscriber & I like to watch you make stuff ! 😂
Thanks.
rabbit wire!! i made some filament dryer box thingy and i use it as a raft!!! funny name...
Perfect!
A subtle bit but Bob's sitting on his newly built cabinet is the ultimate flex of his skills! 😂
Certainly a cool project. And it turned out looking very nice. But I would advise you to take a peek at NFPA 33. I only say that because you're providing plans for something that on so many levels is against every fire code related to a paint booth. I only know this because I design and install paint and powder coating systems for a living. That being said I've been into hundreds of shops over the years with paint booths that look very similar in design to yours. The issue is you're actually providing a plan for it, so you do take on potential liability.
Not trying to be a Negative Nancy, just looking out for you... Because I'll just say I've installed plenty of replacement paint booths over my years in the place of where homemade paint booths used to be before the fire :-)
I need this
Fantastic work, Bob! It looks much better! And I really liked the tape idea! 😃
I'm going to need to build something like that for me as well, but I don't have much space... I'm thinking about your first design! Something like that! 😊
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Nice upgrade Bob! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
I'm glad there was a shot to show that the PC fans got fixed
Bob, a suggestion for next project!
you should make a spray can warmer device, made with aluminium or something with thermal conductivity, with the same shape as the can with a set temperature display so you can dial it and get your can always warm before and while using it. If cans has too many different shape it could had sides that move toward the center to touch it at many spot to warm it gently. nice content as always! I like the paint booth! if you need more powerfull inexpensive LED 12V DC, check aliexpress with WHITE DRL COB. its about 14cm yellow rectangle COB led with a black surrounding. The light coming from thoses are great, even better if you use a small PWM module to you can dim it very easy (if needed). Use many of those none had fail
Awesome build! The packing tape I think great, I know I have a tendency to over think and over build. I want to mention the hardware cloth hanging system, (as a painter by career) I think that might cause some dust issues. I definitely plan on using the drawer system soon!
I also like to make stuff. Thanks for being you, Bob.
Another option to hold down the spray cans would be to utilize short pieces of PVC pipe stuck together as a makeshift organizer. I imagine it would also prevent the cans from falling over when you pull on the drawer and the shelf isn't full. But either ways, another inspiring video!
I thought your idea was cool for the fume problem around 5:00, but the way I would have gone about that is to make a hole as you did, but then add a board with 1" risers to go over it. That way, you can't spray directly into the hole but you also get suction from all around it from the blower.
for all wondering about the pc fans. go for the arctic pwm F12 fans. they come in a 5 pack for 20 to 25 euro. great prive and they are able to be daisychaned
