    The mower deck spindles have two sealed bearing, adding grease to the mower deck spindles does not get to the to the bearings, I also confirmed this with my local John Deere dealer.
    If you go on you tube and type in Steve’s Small engine saloon, he has a great video on this issue, it’s called “John Deere’s Dirty Little Secret”, Steve’s video show how to disassemble the spindles for the mower deck, removing one side of the seal on the bearing, check it out

    Hey guys, very informative video. Thanks for the info! However, I have a question: I JUST broke through the 7hr mark on my 170, and I'm getting the "SVC SVC" lights on my little dash window, is THIS the "SVC" it's talking about?
    Thanks again, guys!!

      yes thats the light that tells you its time to do a service it will automatically blink 1 hour before and will stop going off 1 hour later. there is no reset switch it will stop blinking automatically.

    Should jack up the front-end (by the bumper) to take the weight off of the "kingpins"..while greasing....

    There are 3 on the deck, one for each main pulley. You did miss one on the front, there is one for each wheel, one for each pivot, and one in the center for the axle to pivot on.

    • @JAllyFarms
      @JAllyFarms  5 лет назад

      yes there was one on each front wheel, one on both pivits for the axel and another in the center so all together 5 on the front and 3 on the mower deck, I did get them all but may not have shown them all in the video

    Can u use any kind of grease for the lawn mower?
    Also What kind of oil did u have?

    • @JAllyFarms
      @JAllyFarms  4 года назад +3

      You can use any multi purpose grease However JD wants you to use theirs using another brand of grease does not void warranty. However when using a different kind of grease or your first grease job you will want to push (give it more squirts you will see the old grease come out) out the original grease JD put in unless your using the same grease they do. when selecting a type of grease any multi purpose will do, however you will want to stay with the same brand. As for the oil We used the John Deere's 30 second oil change which was preloaded in the filter you will see that in my 50 hour maint video here ruclips.net/video/2_u4xmqY5lA/видео.html Its SEA 10w30

    Did you keep the easy change oil filter, and I guess it’s impossible to know how it’s working because the oils never drained to actually see..

    • @JAllyFarms
      @JAllyFarms  2 года назад

      No I didnt keep it I took it to an auto store and they disposed of it. the easy change only replaces about 70% of the oil. the manual says to do a quick change every 50 hours I do a full oil change every 2 years when I take it into the dealer for a full service, pending a JD service guys advice

      @@JAllyFarms I also immediately bought the conversation kit for my new rig. When I go do the season end change I’ll swap it to conventional filter and drain. Thanks for the reply!

    So after 8 hours it needs some greasing and oil change kit replacement?

    • @JAllyFarms
      @JAllyFarms  2 года назад +1

      Short answer yes.
      Long Answer.....yes and no. at least change the oil. just get the oil canister. 8 hrs is considered engine break in period at the very least replace the oil no need to change the spark plugs and grease until it hits the 25hr mark. Spark plugs can be done once a year along with the oil and air/fuel filter and grease job. What I do it the 25/hr maint and then once per year have JD come pick it up for its yearly service along with blade maint my cost yearly for this service is about $300 and have them check the belt its include with the service but you should check it yourself especially if you start to throw belts more than once. its a obscene price for belt changes ($175* might be cheaper if they do it at time of service) and you cant do it yourself unless you take the whole deck off.
