Very informative video. A couple of comments, the filter nipple in the MIU13767B kit looks like it has internal hex so you don’t need to use that internal pipe wrench. Also, my old Craftsman lawn tractor has briggs engine with the remote oil change hose that clips to cooling fan shroud. Works great. Part numbers are 594200 for the hose (with end cap and clip) and 796532 for the hose nipple that screws in where drain plug does. The clip never busted, or the hose, in fifteen years. This isn’t necessarily easier than your quick drain plug, but the built in hose is helpful and the cap is up high where I don’t worry about it coming loose. Thanks for posting this video. Brad, Love your videos. Why in the world would John Deere design this "quick change" oil system when as you have shown doesn't allow you to drain all the nasty engine oil. There is no quick way to change your oil and it shouldn't be quick. Probably the most important maintenance you need to perform. Not only does this system not work, the cost is ridiculous. Thank you for what you do.

Yes you could but the other point of the video other than making the engine last is it is much cheaper to change oil and filter with the kit. I was thinking the same thing. Would change all the dirty oil and leave you wth a big nice filter . since I could change every 2 years the 50 filter doesnt sound too bad plus you get a quart of oil with the BIG GREEN EZ CHANGE!
Only John Deere can answer that. John Deere made the retro kit so your still using there parts. Let me know if you contact your local dealership what they say.

would they void warranty for doing this mod if you don't use their proprietary kit and just use a generic amazon kit.. I mean they shouldn't but we all know how it goes
@@JohnsonsSmallEngines thanks..yeah maybe i'll call around and see if I can get their own kit to be on the safe side..worth a few extra bucks..still cheaper than these dumb quick change things lol
Great video. I use to work at JD. What a dumbass design. I'm disabled and now will have to convert this unit. They are going to get a nasty gram from me.
I priced the quick drain oil filter at Home Depot. $56. With tax, that puts it at a bit over $60 for an oil change. A partial oil change at that! I will not be buying a John Deere with that ridiculous feature.
I don’t understand why put that tiny oil filter on in place of larger ez change filter. I don’t see why you can’t drain the block. It has a drain plug like any other small engine. It just needs the extension to make it easier.
The what you call "tiny oil filter" is a normal size oil filter used on 99% of all small engines that have oil filters. Why would you spend up to $60.00 everytime you change your engine oil and oil filter plus another 1.5 qts of oil. When you can change out the system back to the original way they are suppose to be and save soooo much money in the process!! You can get the normal oil filter for as little as $8.00 then add the 2 qts of oil. I would say on the average your saving 3x the $$.
What a useless location for an oil drain bolt, but it's not as bad as an 80s Honda Civic where the oil filter was on the back of the engine between the engine and the firewall and directly over the exhaust manifold. I think the Japanese went stupid on that one.
It's essentially like the John Deere oil filter is for lazy people who don't want to get their hands dirty and that's coming from someone like me who is a small engine mechanic that cannot stand people just say they don't like to get their hands dirty but they complain when there's something messes up on their machine and they can't fix it and they bring it to me but I usually recommend them to do the same thing because coming from mechanic standpoint I cannot stand the John Deere filter either
JUST A THOUGHT COULDN'T YOU JUST SUCK OUT THE OIL FROM ENGINE AND STILL USE THE QUICK CHANGE FILTER? YES I KNOW YOU WOULD STILL HAVE TO BUY THE QUICK CHANGE FILTER AND ADDITIONAL OIL.

I was thinking the same thing. Would change all the dirty oil and leave you wth a big nice filter . since I could change every 2 years the 50 filter doesnt sound too bad plus you get a quart of oil with the BIG GREEN EZ CHANGE!
I have a S170. The parts you are for E170. Are E100 series compatible to S100 series? I’ve only seen E100 series.
If you have a Briggs and Stratton engine on your machine, it should work. To be 100% sure I would contact a John Deere dealership.
Would doing this void your warranty?
Only John Deere can answer that. John Deere made the retro kit so your still using there parts. Let me know if you contact your local dealership what they say.
11:00 - that's an OLD Craftsman ratchet. I have one :)
The plastic cap on the drain tube looks pretty crappy. I don't really trust it.
Super helpful. Thanks a bunch
Glad to hear! Thank you for the kind comment.
Love your video. Tell me, how can John Deere install this quick filter and oil, knowing it leaves a lot of old oil behind? Is there something else we don't know about this oil/filter combo? John Deere can't be this dumb. Or is that the case?
JD is fading. Years ago, they started to transition to non-serviceable customer systems - the farmers HAVE to use JD expensive support. This is just more of the same crap.
👍🏾
Thanks William:)
would they void warranty for doing this mod if you don't use their proprietary kit and just use a generic amazon kit.. I mean they shouldn't but we all know how it goes
Ultimately that is a question for the John Deere dealership. My opinion, if properly installed they shouldn’t because they sell the kit to install.
@@JohnsonsSmallEngines thanks..yeah maybe i'll call around and see if I can get their own kit to be on the safe side..worth a few extra bucks..still cheaper than these dumb quick change things lol
If the system is so bad, why is there no recall?
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Brad your V Twin said thank you for deleting that nonsense easy change system
Yes, it sure did!! It is a much happier engine:)
Does John Deere make a kit to add the quick-change filter system to an engine that does not have one? lol
I'll keep the 30 sec filter, but just put a drain plug in to drain almost all the oil.
Eze change fck up/more crap you dont need.exspensive to use and change back to normal.total garbage dont buy.
