    I just purchased one of these on FBM and it really does the job. To get this kind of quality machine today, be ready to spend over $1000. The heavy gauge steel and quality components used on those pre-2000 machines helps make those machines perform better and last longer.

    do you still recommend this seeder?

    • @JAllyFarms
      @JAllyFarms 2 года назад

      hi there are a few problems with this seeder if they were fixed it would make it better. the handle is a bit upright meaning its not at a good angle to push on it and in not so loose soil would want to tip head over hills at times. I wish the handler was more angled than it is currently. It works well in loose soil planting depth at 1.5" the seeder wheel works well no complaints there. the clip that holds the spacing wheel needs to be tighter and at more of an angle to hold the bar firmly. so far nothing has broken on it. All in all. for the price its a good seeder about $100 or less with a coupon I would not pay much more than that. other seeders that you have probably seen I wouldn't want to pay those prices either not unless I have seen then in action. I can say Its far better than hand planting and I would probably by it again if I needed another, however if I knew how I would make some alterations on it. For the price yes I would recommend it if you are on a budget or for your personal garden, it plants much more than corn. I am not sure at this time if I would spend the money on the more expensive/similar seeders. just be sure the ground is dry when using/planting with this seeder

    The mower deck spindles have two sealed bearing, adding grease to the mower deck spindles does not get to the to the bearings, I also confirmed this with my local John Deere dealer. If you go on you tube and type in Steve’s Small engine saloon, he has a great video on this issue, it’s called “John Deere’s Dirty Little Secret”, Steve’s video show how to disassemble the spindles for the mower deck, removing one side of the seal on the bearing, check it out

    So after 8 hours it needs some greasing and oil change kit replacement?

    • @JAllyFarms
      @JAllyFarms 2 года назад

      Short answer yes. Long Answer.....yes and no. at least change the oil. just get the oil canister. 8 hrs is considered engine break in period at the very least replace the oil no need to change the spark plugs and grease until it hits the 25hr mark. Spark plugs can be done once a year along with the oil and air/fuel filter and grease job. What I do it the 25/hr maint and then once per year have JD come pick it up for its yearly service along with blade maint my cost yearly for this service is about $300 and have them check the belt its include with the service but you should check it yourself especially if you start to throw belts more than once. its a obscene price for belt changes ($175* might be cheaper if they do it at time of service) and you cant do it yourself unless you take the whole deck off.

    I had one of these for years with no breakage. I recently bought two more for helpers and they both broke in the first 20 minutes using as grass shears! They've lasted quite a while as hedge trimmers. My Makita one lasted forever, and when it was 4 years old it was still sharp enough to cut my fingertip off!! Finally needed a new battery but had switched to Ryobi so didn't buy another Makita battery.

  • @JeremyThePlayer88
    @JeremyThePlayer88 2 года назад

    Here's something additional you could try. You could also add artificial grass on the wooden stand. That could help attract the hawks so that they have a good perching spot! But you technically aren't done yet! A hawk likes to make its hunting more convenient! With that being said, you might see a hawk way up in the trees at some point. When you do, turn around and walk inside. Keep going until you are inside your kitchen. Pull out any raw meat you can find! The one thing a Red Tailed Hawk seems to like is chicken livers! But, depending on how hungry the hawk is, he/she might want to eat something bigger than just a small piece of prey! You can try placing that food item (whatever that might be) on the center of the perch. Then its just a matter of turning around. Then you could watch him from your doorway. If he succeeds to swoop down and eat it on the perch, then you can repeat it next time he/she is around. Then you could get closer to the hawk each time so that he/she can build a tolerance towards you! After a few months, its possible he/she could grab that meal right from your hand! Persistence is key but this might not work with every hawk! So far, I only had a Red Tailed Hawk take a meal from me once, but then never again. But....she did let me get closer to her over time, so that's good news! But food is the driving factor to build trust with any bird of prey! Of course, anything you can do to make the hawk's job easier can help him/her out as well.

    • @JAllyFarms

      sure does we have a hardpack a few inches below which is about 3' of packed clay that makes it a challange for our auger to break thru, we found that instead of using downward pressure to bust thru, its easier to move the auger in a circle motion, this helps shave the hard pack until it gets thru.

    Great video.. Thanks. FYI.. no, they did not use the fire truck to replenish the tenders.... they ran hoses (that they carry in the Art Lockman Tool car [1st one behind the EMD 4015]) across the street and replenished directly from the fire hydrant, "kitty corner" from the grain elevator bins. Also, FYI.... at the 25:13/14 mark you mentioned to whoever you were talking to (when the 4014 was moving on to the main to leave out), in regards to the steam coming from the cylinder cocks, that "he's probably doing it for a show for the people"..... no, it's not a show for the people... it's to bleed off built up condensation in the cylinders before widening out the throttle, and also to reduce any chance of wheel slip of the drivers which can be damaging to the main and side rods as well as the driver "tires" and rails. After sitting overnight, and the boiler pressure allowed to drop down, the steam is "wet" and needs to be bled off... you can also tell when there is still too much "wet steam" (not "dry" and really hot from working), when Ed whistled the crossing and the whistle (Nathan 3 chime) had that "sagging / dropping off" sound to it.... compared to very sharp and powerful as when it arrived the evening before. Thanks again for the video... good shots.

    I really wish 4014 could come to Bakersfield CA, but sadly it never will due to the curves in the Tehachapi pass to the east. And I don't have a car. The closest it will ever come to me is 150 miles away in Barstow

    • @JAllyFarms

      Actually, you may get your wish someday. I worked on the Mojave Sub as a locomotive engineer during the 1970's and the curves on that mountain are around 10 degrees. The UP 4000's were designed to take curves as sharp as 20 degrees, so I don't believe the 4014 would have much of a problem there. Remember, SP ran it's big AC-12 Cab Forwards (4-8-8-2's) over that mountain on a regular basis. Lineside clearences probably are still OK. Whether or not the 4014 comes to Tehachapi would probably have more to do with the trip route they have planned.
