  • In today's video, I discuss the recent news that Philadelphia Eagles Corner, CB, James Bradberry, took some snaps at OTAs at Safety. This is a very interesting way of trying to get the pieces to fit, but I still think there is some risk here. The NFL has a way of surprising.

    Not saying they're gonna stay there but I did bring up how Blankenship could be used as a nickel or some lb and bradberry could be a solid zone safety ... Idgaf where they play as long as it's where it will help the team the most

      Bradberry had a 10% missed tackle percentage last year which is average for DBs. So that's not true. But I agree that he shouldn't be taking playing time away from the young guys.

      I think he still has a decent shot at making this 53. Even if Bradberry is kept on the roster, I think it will be as a safety. I know Sydney Brown wants to be 100% by training camp, but that’s a tough injury to suffer late in December, and be back 100% by September. There is a chance Sydney is placed on short term IR (the 4 week one), and JB is potentially held on to as a safety. I think that would open the door for Eli Ricks as the 7th CB.

      What’s up MrMichael! That’s certainly a path they could take, but I do think they want a veteran in that defensive backfield, and I think the front office values Slay in that role.

      @@CoachHeitter I agree but I was just thinking they could be huge. Sexy lol. I mean really it would depend on what they can get back but the defensive line to me is a question mark and the safety position is an injury away from being a disaster. Safeties help corners. Defensive linemen help corners. Just a thought though. Slay is actually one of my favorite Eagles.

    I don't think Bradbury is going to be even at this coming week mandatory camp I think they told him just stay home we will try our best to get something for you and put you somewhere thank you for your service. Because why would he not be at OTA this week last week he knows he needs to show us something yes the eagles definitely told him not to come in

    • @CoachHeitter
      @CoachHeitter  3 месяца назад +1

      What’s up Catmando! He actually showed. Yesterday was the first day of mandatory camp, and Bradberry was there. The latest CBA changed the rules around this situation. Players and Teams can’t just agree to sit out. If a player doesn’t show, per the CBA, you have to fine them. So, JB did the right thing and showed up.
      Vic had him working with the safeties instead of the corners. However, he got injured before team drills, 11-on-11s. So, it will be interesting to see if he gets back on the field today. There is a chance that tomorrow’s practice won’t be field work, and is a team building exercise off site. That could mean this situation hangs in the balance until late July if Bradberry is held out with an injury today.

      I think Quinyon has a difficult path to starting this year. It looks like the real competition is between Kelee Ringo, Isaiah Rodgers, and possibly Eli Ricks for that Boundary corner role. I think they want him to learn behind Slay, and start pushing for time as the season goes on.
      Now, the fact Vic Fangio used a dime package, and that featured Ringo + Slay outside, Maddox + Quinyon inside, and CJGJ + Blank at safety tells me they will find ways to get Quinyon and Cooper DeJean on the field. They know these guys are talented, and even if they don’t get the start, I do think Vic is going to find ways of getting them on the field.

  • @haroldbrooks4235
    @haroldbrooks4235 3 месяца назад +3

    Not sure how you would have Isaiah Rogers as the 7th Cornerback?

    • @CoachHeitter
      @CoachHeitter  3 месяца назад +3

      What’s up Harold! It’s explained in the video. In a scenario where the Eagles were to keep Bradberry on the team as a corner, which I still don’t think is likely to happen, you ain’t exactly benching Bradberry in that situation. It’s too costly, and he’s not exactly a special teams player. If Bradberry is here, they clearly plan on playing him.
      In that situation, someone who is young and has upside to be a contributor past this season is likely being exposed to the waiver wire. So, I listed the 6 guys who would be on the roster: JB, Slay, Avonte, Quinyon, Coop, and Ringo. Then, I went on to say, I feel like the Eagles would carry 7 CBs, and Isaiah Rodgers would likely be that 7th guy.
      I think you’re taking the number too literal. It doesn’t mean he would be the seventh guy on the depth chart, but he would be that guy that’s not a recent draft pick, nor a veteran on an expensive contract. So, by merit I wouldn’t consider him the 7th corner, but in terms of roster consideration, he likely would be in that scenario. I still think he’s valuable, and his ability to backup every corner alignment, along with his special teams prowess is the reason why I think he will find a role no matter what, and without JB, he might find a starting role (at minimum for the year).
      This is the main reason why I can’t see James Bradberry sticking with the team as a corner. Now, there is always the possibility of an injury making things easier, and they started working Bradberry out at safety, which is another possibility or way in which he sticks with the team. Although, everyone healthy, and Bradberry outside as a corner creates a serious log jam at the position.

    I find hilarious how Bradberry regressed under the same circumstances as Hurts did but people would sentence him to the guillotine if they could, all that while bringing up 20 arguments as to why Hurts isn't at fault for regressing.
    And to be clear, my point isn't that Hurts regressed, it's that Bradberry also came out of a top 10 CB season and regressed to the bottom with a inept coaching staff. Don't see why he doesn't get the benefit of the doubt. Actually, I do. In Philly you either retire or get traded to be forever remembered as a hero OR you overstay your welcome too long to become the villain. If Nick Foles stayed after 2017 and played like he did every season before or after, our fanbase would chew him up and spit him out too. No one is safe here.

    • @CoachHeitter
      @CoachHeitter  3 месяца назад +4

      I would say while I get what you’re saying, these are two different circumstances.
      For starters, JB is a 30 year old, 8 year vet. He’s been around the league for a while now. I would be really disappointed if Jalen was a 30 year old vet, with 8 years of accrued league play, and looked like Bradberry last year. I do think there is a difference here.
      Also, while I agree that Jalen had a down year, and let his frustrations get the best of him and tried to force too many throws, he also had an NFL record 8 straight 10 point plus deficit, come from behind victories on the year. Jalen still played a lot better than James Bradberry did last year.
      With that said, is Bradberry cooked? I honestly don’t know. As I stated in the video, he could have had an undisclosed injury that never hindered his practice status, but non the less had an impact on his play. Things like that are always difficult to know unless the player or team let’s us in on it.

    • @Ocean5ix
      @Ocean5ix 3 месяца назад +1

      @@CoachHeitter I guess my argument is more that people shouldn't be so pissed off about Bradberry. I understand he's not the long term (maybe he's not even the short term) answer and I do think maybe his time is over with the Eagles. That said, some people are so extreme about how they say stuff that it just rubs me the wrong way. Like, Bradberry wasn't THE reason we were so terrible last season, he probably wasn't even on the top 10 considering the coaching staff.
      Edit: But I kind of feel the same way about Quez Watkins. Dude was a 6th round pick that I would say overachieved his draft placement, considering he was playing behind AJ, Smith and Goedert. And people has crazy animosity towards him. It's the kind of stuff I just don't get it.

    Bradberry is just camping out waiting for another team to need "a guy". Safety is just to get him out the way of the young DBs and a hope of tempting someone else to take a flyer on him at another position. The Eagles will trade Bradberry for a half eaten Wawa hot dog and a piss warm beer.

      I think it’s possible that this is just a workaround to prevent reps from being taken from the young guys.
      An interesting test will be the injury. If they only do one more day of field work, today, and tomorrow is a team building exercise, does Bradberry return to drills today? That’s fascinating, and we might not see Bradberry again until the end of July, or potentially never again in an Eagles uniform.
      Now, I will say, they do need depth at safety. We have CJGJ, Blank, Tristin McCollum (UDFA from last year), and Sydney Brown (Who is coming back from injury). We’ve heard about Cooper DeJean, Avonte Maddox, and James Bradberry all working with the safeties too (JB got injured yesterday before 11-on-11s so no team work). I think I faintly remember Isaiah Rodgers taking a few reps at safety for Indy too. So, there is a slight chance that Vic Fangio really thinks James Bradberry can play safety. I’m really curious to see if JB is with us in late July, and if he is, how he actually fits as a safety.

    It’s hard to get a grasp of what Fangio is thinking, does he legitimately want a look at Bradberry playing safety or is this a front office move?

Having a guy like James Bradberry, who I’m a fan of and I think he is a standup guy, but having him cut into those reps is not ideal.
