All ZZ Top is good ZZ Top but La Grange is their signature song. They are heavily blues influenced. Further suggestions: Cheap Sunglasses, Tube Snake Boogie, Blue Jean Blues, Waiting For The Bus // Jesus Just Left Chicago (2 songs that should be listened to back to back).

ZZ Top os most accurately descrived as a "Texas Blues Band." "Sharp Dressed Man" is a good example of their 80s music--more commercial, more MTV friendly. Their traditional sound is more exemplified by the songs, "La Grange," "Waitin' On A Bus/Jesus Just Left Chicago" (a two song medly always played together for no particular reason), "Hot, Blue, and Righteous," "The X," "Driving While Blind."

    • @gershman23

And yet their 80's sound is what most people in the world knows them for, so respect where respect is due...and just for the record, even though I love all their 'Eliminator' hits, my favorite ZZ Top song is "Rough boy", which is more of a mashup between their earlier sound and the 80's synth-laden sound.

Such a fun song! This rock band was formed in 1969. They were popular for their live performances, sly humorous lyrics & the matching appearances of Billy Gibbons & Dusty Hill, who wore sunglasses, hats & long beards. Sadly Dusty Hill passed away in 2021. Some of their other hits are "La Grange", "Tush", "Gimme All Your Lovin'", "Legs" etc.

The most ironic thing about ZZ Top is, the drummers last name is Beard, and he is the only band member not to have one. 😄
Nickleback did a live cover of this at some awards show. That's another band I'd love to see what you think of.
Nickleback has phenomenal vocals, and are extremely talented musicians. However, they're considered one of the most hated bands. Though I could never figure out. Would be great to see what your thoughts would be.
Nickleback Songs; "Someday", "If everyone cared", "Never again", "figured you out", "How you remind me", "Savin me" and "Hero" are a few I'd suggest. 😁

Phil & Sam here's some different fun info. Can you think of another Texas blues playing guitartist? 😉🎸
SRV was ZZ Top’s opening act when he was still a member of the group The Nightcrawlers in the early 70s. Over the years, Billy gave many guitars to Stevie Ray, like a 50s-style maple neck Stratocaster, that according to SRV Archive, he “kept the tremolo arm, pickups and frets in their original condition. But added his signature and initials on the neck plate and pickguard.”

In the 70’s, ZZ came on as a Texas blues band. In the 80’s, they became more mainstream with this driving, heavy bass groove, which is when I discovered them. Their videos were in heavy rotation on MTV, and that red hot rod was their iconic calling card. The beards are real. 😁

This song is part of a two album set where ZZ Top embraced a more MTV classic rock feel. Their earlier albums were more bluesy. They are frequently labeled as "Texas Boogie", which if you hear enough of kind of makes sense. Their most well known songs are: La Grange, Tush, Gimme All Your Lovin, Legs, "I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide", Cheap Sunglasses, Tube Snake Boogie, Blue Jean Blues, Waiting For The Bus / Jesus Just Left Chicago.

ZZTop is pure Texas Blues Rock. Sadly, Dusty Hill passed away in 2021. La Grange is their 1st hit from the album Tres Hombres. That whole album is🔥. They have so many great songs that it’s hard to narrow it down to just a few, but I can definitely recommend La Grange, and Waiting For The Bus/Jesus Just Left Chicago to get you started. Those 2 are a set. You have to listen to both. One leads right into the other. Some of my favorites are Rough Boy, Legs, Pearl Necklace, Beer Drinkers And Hell Raisers… The list goes on and on. Enjoy. Much love ❤️

They learned how to perform their style of music and be entertaining at the same time by playing all sorts of honkytonks and bars before they hit it big. ZZ Top reached the stratosphere with the explosion of MTV. It seemed like the song Legs was played every 45 minutes and soon ZZ Top became the face of popular rock group music. They became one of the groups that was a fan favorite on the channel. By 1984 ZZ Top was playing arenas and stadiums. There was a 5-year period when they were the highest grossing band in the world. Just about any song you play during this era of the 1980's will make you want to dance and feel you are at a great party. This is an example of Texas Roadhouse music that you could hear from ZZ Top, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, and Stevie Ray Vaughn to name a few well-known entertainers of the era. Have a great time and keep up the great fun you have on your reactions.

Try "Pearl Necklace" next. Nothing provacative about the song at all. Unless you know what a Pearl Necklace is slang for. Then the song is super provocative. Lol. And it was a hit for them too because not many people know what its slang for.
ZZ Top often mixed some fun and "tongue in cheek" sexuality into their songs.

I first heard ZZ in the mid '70's in high school. I was the only boy in Home Ec class and a girl from Texas played "TUSH" for me. 😁 If you want to hear it with extra lead guitarists (Orianthi Panagaris for starters), MY favorite LIVE version of Sharp dressed man song is this one. ruclips.net/video/spJ-nQ1iiH0/видео.html
Here's some of the comments: Possibly one of the best versions of the song. Billy Gibbons is an immortal...and everyone playing with him has some real talent too. Love that he gives them each time to shine. Love how despite the extended soloing, nobody is trying to deconstruct the song to prove how greatly skilled they are. Always sticking to the melody letting the song stay the main character. Orianthi is truly a sharp dressed woman...Ori deserves a spot in the pantheon of rock guitar gods. She is unbelievably underrated A seriously great jam.

When he was very young the band he played in before ZZ Top was an opening act for Jimi's band on one of his tours. Jimi made sure they had adjoining rooms at the hotels so they could get together listen to music and play together in the room. Jimi in an interview called Billy the future of guitar playing. I bought "Tres Hombres" from a review I read in a magazine. I was a freshman in HS and kept telling everyone about this new band ZZ Top. None of my friends gave the band a listen, but I ended up with the nickname ZZ Bear - the Bear because I was a Bear's fan living in Michigan. Anyway, it wasn't long before ZZ Top got huge and the rest as they say... is History. Although their albums from the 80s were better commercially, I will always love Tres Hombres. So raw. The cool classic car is the ZZ Top car & is in a lot of their videos. And this is their sound & those beards are their look. The band formed in 1969 & toured for 51 years, until Dusty Hill died in 2021. Legends. 'Cheap Sunglasses' is another fav of mine.

Uh oh you just went down the ZZ Top rabbit hole. Trust me this won’t be your last. Iconic beards, iconic videos, and frankly just an iconic band. Ironically the only guy in the band without a beard was the drummer Frank Beard

ZZ Top played an open air venue concert here pre pandemic. After the Sugarland (country band) storm deaths and injuries. It was a stormy kind of day . There were numerous people watching weather radar on their phones. Big thunderstorm fronts came thru and the band kept playing. The organizers stopped the show and evacuated the park 3 times. Everyone was required to leave the venue with their cars. They had the local radio station act as the public announcing system. They called every back and boom sent everybody back again. The band stayed . The grass parking looked like a plowed field the next day. I am saying they have a dedicated work ethic to stay and attempt to deliver a show when they could have just stayed in their bus . In the end the organizers are the ones who shut down the show.

These guys are a Texas Rock Blues Band. They are classified as Southern Rock. First coming out we referred to them as Boogie Rock or Blues Rock. Go back to their first or second albums. The mid 80s stuff was more for top 40 radio play as they were evolving with the times but their in your face Blues rock is undeniable ZZ.

ZZ Top has been on my playlist/walkman/cassette deck since ~1976. Always a fun listen. They have so many memorable songs. To get a quick glimpse of their styles, I recommend "Jesus Just Left Chicago" (very bluesy), and "Gatsta Get Paid" (more modern southern rock sound), and "Tush" (their more typical southern rock sound).

This song was from their Eliminator album which was released in 1983. The car is also called Eliminator and is featured in all of the videos. Other songs from that album were Gimme all Your Lovin and Legs.

2:32 Get your Billy Gibbons voice on,Sam! 😏I remember being barely some years old,and both my uncles sat watching music videos in my grandparents livingroom. When i came in with my mom,the first thing my Uncles said was "Arent they cool looking?",as i was drawn towards to tv and came over. And i remember answering "Yes" to theyr question, while sort of being hypnotized to the music video. Ever since,my uncles and my mom fed me theyr music and i got massively into them. It never changed over the years.
Funny remark from Sam regarding "most of the women in the music video looked like they were ready for an aerobics class" (regarding the title)
I think its explainable by this being the 3 women that comes riding in the Eliminator. They became a thing with ZZ Top,look upon them as "morale law enforcers and fashionistas" alongside the members of ZZ Top. So they arent coming to partake in the actuall party, they are simply there to make sure the male being "ignored and looked down upon" is no longer ignored towards the end.
You know, since its Spooktober i got the perfect one for you. It is theyr most "horror vibed song",where they also got Heather Langenkamp from A Nightmare on Elm Street with them for the music video, opposite her they also got John Dye from the movie Touched by an Angel as the lead roles.
ZZ Top -Sleeping Bag (Official Music Video)
ZZ Top always brings the groove, even with theyr slowest songs, there is always some sort of groove there.
A sad little sidenote though, the gentleman you see on bass and sometimes a keyboard,Dusty Hill sadly passed away recently. Luckily it was peacefully in his sleep, but yeah,it happened in July 2021,so pretty fresh. They have gotten in a replacement since in Elwood Francis.

Great reaction! I might be biased as Eliminator was the first ZZ Top album I heard, but I love it to death! This song, Legs, Gimme All Your Lovin', TV Dinners...all are just groove rockin' bangers!
Now that you've done this track, might as well complete the trilogy (the videos all have a common theme - WITH the Eliminator hot rod!) - Legs next and then Gimme All Your Lovin'.
La Grange is the song you're thinking of (another must). Tush, Cheap Sunglasses after that.
    Cheers!

They are southern blues rock and Billy Gibbons is a really good guitarist - they have a lot of outstanding songs - can’t name them all - there is one called something like "I Gotsta Get Paid" that is just incredible and FUN FUN FUN! You will see the car and girls like this in other videos helping both ordinary guys and girls.
