Thanks, didn't know about extending this. I have used the roll back to 10 feature when helping friends who aren't computer savvy and got tricked by Microsoft into upgrading to 11 when they really didn't want to.
My plan would be to clone my windows 10 to another drive then upgrade that to 11. That's just my 2 cents, very handy to know we can extend the time though Brian, thanks
Thanks for video Brian. This is typically for Microsoft. They want you to use Windows 11 when getting there. And as you said : Mostly everyone doesn't remember they only have 10 days.
As it appears, organised people rule the world. Got a lifetime replacement of battery to my basic Casio watch. I paid only about £3 extra on top of replacing the battery for the first time, to get this voucher. I cherish that voucher, used it at least 5x times in the same outlet to keep having my battery replaced for free. The watch is over 20 years old. They still honour that policy and never show any dislike for me to show up and have free battery again. The same with having a boiler checked every 12 months before the date it was installed 4 years ago. I religiously stick to that deadline. Last year the panel needed replacing. The engineer, first thing he checked when he came, was a history of services. No complaints, panel replaced for free within warranty. Most people need to get their 💩together. It isn't a rocket science. And, while watching this video, I thought 60 days will be even harder to remember without a reminder.
Thanks for the video. My computer passed the deadline. I'm going to do a fresh install of Windows 11 and a computer cleaning. I don't particularly like upgrades, to many remnants are left behind from Windows 10. 12/20/2024 1008
@@Britec09 I'm fine with doing a clean install of Windows 11. I have a backup of the computer on my NAS.. A fresh start is good. no left over Windows 10 stuff.
@@Britec09 Yes the printer won't print properly because the heads are blocked plus when opening the lid to change the cartridges it won't reset to the center even unplugging it and updating firmware so I think a switch or the sensor is dirty but they are soocheap to buy it's not worth messing around with
Will there be a Windows 10 update where you can upgrade directly to Windows 11? There was an direct upgrade before but was removed probably because Microsoft wants the direct upgrade to 24h2.
Just out of curiosity, what determines the start and end dates for the 10/60 day rollback period? Changing the system date to a prior one wouldn’t, by chance, work as an override if the period is expired, would it?
clone your drive before you go to windows 11. But I wouldn't install 11, you think you have problems with 10 thanks to microsoft. You will be moving up to several levels of pain and suffering
I have been resistant to upgrading my existing Win10 into Win11, got a new second hand laptop instead that runs Win11, but converted that one to Linux LOL. But I do have Win11 in a QEMU virtual machine and also installed on a gen2 usb, very fast, to boot into it if ever needing it. No licence key in either, limited customisation, but I am OK with it for now. My question is: If I clone my existing Win10 on a usb, then upgrade the existing system in the computer to Win11, will I be able to use both systems as I wish, having the same licence key? Has anyone tried it? I am wicked, I know LOL.

Good video Brian.
Thanks 👍
Juste clone your Windows 10 before upgrading to 11. It’s much easy and reliable if you want to go back with 10.
That is another way
I make an mirro-copy at regular intervals. Sometimes MS-Win just mess up things and re-store an image is easy and reliable.
Hasleo OS Image or Disk Image Save To Portable drive
@tlmoller what's micro copy is that a program?
@@toonnut1 Acronis can do that.
thanks to you many get help…appreciate all you do Merry Christmas …cheers
Thanks, you too!
Good video Brian. I’ll be sure to do this on my dad’s pc if he ever upgrades.
You're welcome
Thanks, Brian! 👍🏼
Welcome
Great tip my friend - Thank you. You're amazing as to how you discover these things. 👍
Glad it was helpful!

Clone your drive is a great long term way.

I agree, dirty tactics from Microsoft

good info, 60 days is more than enough to notice there is very little difference.
I agree, so many people miss deadline because Microsoft shortened the time limit.
Great tip. I missed my window of opportunity because I didn't know this.
10 days is not enough
I'm using windows 11, I didn't upgrade from windows 10, I just installed fresh windows 11, but this feels like a useful thing to know

The guy you have on your Teaser Image for this video? I had no idea Seal and George Michael had had a son.
Brian works for Microsoft :-)
Was that you're best attempt to troll me 😂 idiot
Im surprised nobody hasn't made it possible to extend from 60 to unlimited days
Thanks Brian I forgot that on my clients PC. Anyway I' going to setup a new printer for him Monday so I will set that up for him.
Sounds great!

Do we change it before or after the upgrade ?
Change it after
Any idea what would happen if you extend to 60 days, get part way through the 60 and send the script again?
Would I be right in thinking the "roll back" option is removed if you do ANY "Windows Updates" to your newly upgraded Windows 10?
No
Just out of curiosity, what determines the start and end dates for the 10/60 day rollback period? Changing the system date to a prior one wouldn’t, by chance, work as an override if the period is expired, would it?
No, because the windows.old folder has been deleted at that point.
Is this command available in Windows 10 or is it only Windows 11?
Windows 10 and Windows 11
Can you keep extending by 60 days ongoing???
No, don't think so
I always extend my rollback from 10 days to 60 days.
Worth doing
Does this work on Windows 11 22H2 to 24H2?
yes
@@Britec09 Both Win 10 and 11 gave me a DISM "Error: 1168 Element not found." response. Used regedit instead.

Yes

Windows 11 24H2 is full of fuss and lot of bugs and fact is Microsoft sometimes release uncooked food for pc users and it give them hell of headaches

Note these instructions will fail if you try them on a system that has NOT been upgraded within the 10 day grace period.
