Yes, this thing is amazing. It sounds better in the actual room than any RUclips review I've listened to. How to make it better? Add a speaker out jack so you can use it with an external cab, and then the thing gets completely mind blowing! It's easy to do, just splice in a switching 1/4" jack so that when you plug the external cab in the internal speaker is off. Brilliant!
The people at Rowland/Boss certainly know how to make great amps. Ideal as a travel amp this is fine but I would have preferred a reverb as well. Does size matter ? Yes - the micro cube is just much nearer to a proper amp but this is easily the best of the micro/mini amps.
very nice indeed...i think all the recent small "practice" amps sounds real nice for what they are made for..recently i found a steal bargain for the blackstar BEAM...sounds real good especially the crunch tones...also the small vox is really nice...although it looks horrible :)
I have a Roland Cube Street (new Sweetwater $299 US - used Reverb $259 US) ...that amp paid for itself in less than a month playing outdoor venues (art & wine festivals, farmers markets, corner of 5th & Nowhere...lol). I love that’s it not just a guitar amp but a PA as well...guitar & vocals...all that said this Boss Mini kicks some serious butt...I can see myself camping with one because of it’s size & weight...amazing...great video Elmo...Thanks! 🎸🔊🎶🤘🏻
I have been using a JBL XTRME through a Behringer mixer at home whenever I don’t practice using headphones. But, unfortunately it has no sound effects. The sound from the JBL is excellent so I can imagine that the KATANA will have great sound. So, thanks for the review, you have sold it and I’m off to MUSIC EXPERIENCE…
@@sami_am7860 I just picked up a Katana Mini in Guitar Center for $40 because it is missing the AC adapter. It is going to hold me over until I can decide between the Katana 50 Mk2 and the Spark 40.
Best right after Roland Micro Cube. Brown sound and EQ are great. The small size amazes for the loudness and sound quality. The power supply should be standard.
As i have seen in the roland website that Roland microcube gx is discontinued..but some pieces are available at amazon ..should i buy it or i should buy boss katana?..plz help
Absolutely love mine. Enough volume to match your un amplified voice for busking. It is also small enough to walk and play. It also works great as a preamp for a louder speaker Only design flaw. Placement of powder switch means it is way too easy to turn the amp on while you're putting it away That means dead batteries when you go to use it again .Add something to shield switch from accidental power ons. Huge success in a micro amp; excellent clear tone. A friend, way better than me, couldn't help from sitting there envying the tone of this little amp against his Street Cube amp. Yeah, volume is stronger on bigger, more expensive amps. But, that is not the point of an amp lighter and smaller than your kid's lunch box.

Thank you for all your reviews. I’m looking for an amp for living room jammin. I don’t gig . Just want something good that doesn’t sound cheap or thin. What you suggest this katana or Blackstar fly 3?
Dear Elmo, you are the only one that I trust on RUclips, so I need to ask you one thing. I'm curious and I really want to know your opinion, because it matters to me. It will be pretty long! Sorry and please bear with me! In another video, you say (and rightfully so!!!) that a beginner, who is learning how to play, shouldn't get an amp that is big/loud/with high wattage, because he will not be gigging anytime soon. So he should get a small (but good), ''practice'' amp, like the Micro Cube, or the Katana Mini. Ok. Now the question is: if the beginner (like it happens more often than people would think!!!), instead of a 100/200€ guitar, is lucky enough to be able to start playing on a 1000€, or more, guitar, would you still say that that person should get a battery powered amp? I mean, I know that some are very good (like those two I mentioned). But, knowing that, for quite some time, no other (bigger) amp will be used, would you pair one of those amps (Micro Cube, Katana Mini, etc.) with a €1000 + guitar? I hope you'll be brave enough to go through this wall of text! Keep giving us great content!!! Love you, man!!! :)
Hi Matty! Thanks for the comment. If you have to balance a budget, I'd definitely go for a more expensive guitar. If money is not issue, then you can of course get something bigger if you want to. Personally I still use the Roland Micro Cube at home. It's just great.
Hey man, I need some help. Does this project sound as well as the micro cube? The fiddle player in my street folk group is a 75 YO lady and I’m trying to find a new amp that she can carry that is comparable with the old micro cube. Good review, thanks
Elmo my man, you basically sold me this thing. What pedal/pedals you'd suggest to buy to along with this amp to have a little more potential? (Always on the very cheap side though 😂)
I'm ordering one of these Friday % payday, and K couldn't remember what you said about it. I've got the 50 watt that I love, but I need something smaller to move around and take to my brothers, etc to jam with him, etc. Had to check it ouf again. Oh. Found it for 107.oo dollars shipped free.. BTW, it's analogue / solid state. Has 4 gain stages I believe. 3 or 4. Not modeling.. just fyi. 🤟🤙🤟 Oh. By the way.. You should check out the cheap / inexpensive Jackson Js series. Very cool for the money. It costs like 170 here new and has two humbucker, standard bridge and 14 to 1 tuners, hot Jackson humbucker pickups. It even has a graphite rod or two in the maple neck for strength! Cheap, but great for a person on a small budget. I was pleasantly surprised. Made in Indonesia. . What was that rhythm you did right before the 6 string sweeps? It's killer. ????
Despite it having 3 sounds (clean, crunch and brown), it really only has 2. If you have the gain on the crunch channel turned up, and on the brown the gain turned down, and adjust the volume control to make them the same level, they are exactly the same sound. All the channel switch does is adjust the gain, as there is a bit of overlap in the gains between crunch and brown sounds you can get pretty much all the available sounds with clean and brown and just adjust the gain control.
I own one of these cute little guys. I have no issues with it in sound or quality or buzzing. This Roland MicroCube and the Blackstar offering are the better of the tiny desktop practice amps. The Orange Micro Crush is better as a Orange Crush Mini Head because of its 8ohm cabinet speaker out. Ice Cream is good almost anytime and anywhere.

Was there a lot of noise? I forget.
It's a common problem with a fender on the brown channel..

It looks and sounds really hyvä .. Without any pedals how metal can it get ?
Not sure. Depends on the type of metal you want I guess.

BOSS Katana Mini & Positive Grid Spark MINI Black , which one do you like 😇??
Hey elmo at its current price point would you recommend this amp over the positive grid spark mini when it comes to malmteen stuff? Spark mini is about 100 more expensive
The Spark really is much better, but then again I guess it also depends on your financial situation.
how does this compare to slightly bigger practice amps of the same price such as the vox pathfinder 10 or something like that?
Haven't tried the Vox. It's smaller, but it's not that bad. If you try to play loud, it won't do that, like a Katana 50 will.
thanks! I love your reviews btw, very honest. Keep em comin
You can count on Boss Roland to deliver some pretty decent digital gear that has feeling and tone. Take that to the bank.
The Katana Mini is actually an analog amp 🙂
